Hi there!

I see you're uploading images, while this is good, we would prefer if you uploaded them onto the commons where acceptable. This will mean less work for my bot later :) CWii(BOO!|Eeek!) 21:22, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't like uploading onto commons. It's easier to catalog what I've taken if kept on en wikipedia. Also, I can keep better track on what happens to my images if on en wikipedia; I got seriously burned once.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 21:24, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh. Well then can you CC-BY them and mark them with {{NoCommons}} so I don't move them? CWii(BOO!|Eeek!) 21:32, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Also I can mark your past uploads with NoCommons for you with AWB if you like. CWii(BOO!|Eeek!) 21:35, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Please do. I added the NoCommons template to the notepad I use for WP templates.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 21:36, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Washington_county_courthouse.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 02:02, 1 November 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nv8200p talk 02:02, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • ... did you know that General James Deshler was killed instantly by Union cannon's artillery shell when it exploded in front of him ripping his heart from his body.

I am leaning towards the first one, how about you. Thanks and Have a Great Day! Duke R. Oliver I His Duchy 23:38, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The first is better, but maybe too gruesome. Post both, and then state your preference.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 23:45, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'll just tone down the first one. Thanks! Duke R. Oliver I His Duchy 23:58, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Formatting question

Hey, I'm not sure who to ask but I decided to ask you simply for the fact that you're a lot more experienced than me. Maybe you know about formatting or know someone who is good at it? Theres a small formatting concern for Frederick III, German Emperor on its peer review page (the only one not struck through, under Infobox) and I'd like to fix that before bringing it to FAC. Do you have any idea how to fix it or can tell me someone who may know? Thanks for your help. --Banime (talk) 13:16, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so far, do you know how to fix the infobox problem? --Banime (talk) 15:56, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well if you ever figure it out I'd appreciate it if you'd just go ahead and edit it. The article is up as an FAC now so it would help out the article. Thanks! Also, good luck on all of your projects and if you ever need help let me know. --Banime (talk) 21:09, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New state

No, I haven't heard anything about that. I just looked up the historical marker. Not very enlightening, is it? I'd definitely be interested into looking deeper into it, but we'll need more to go on than this. Maybe I'll see what I can dig up over lunch. Let me know if you find anything else. Acdixon (talk contribs count) 18:07, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Found one apparently extensive article on this. I'll provide the citation below. Haven't gotten a chance to read it yet, but thought I'd let you know in case you wanted to look it up.
  • Craig, Berry F. (2001). "The Jackson Purchase Considers Secession: The 1861 Mayfield Convention". The Register of the Kentucky Historical Society. 99 (4): pp. 339–361. {{cite journal}}: |pages= has extra text (help); Unknown parameter |month= ignored (help)
Acdixon (talk contribs count) 16:45, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just finished the article. Looks like there's not as much here as we thought. According to Craig, most of the records of what exactly happened in Mayfield have been lost (perhaps in a fire that burned the courthouse in 1864). Toward the end of the article, however, he makes the following assertion:
"The groundwork for what happened in Russellville [the Russellville Convention] had been laid in Mayfield, although it remains unclear exactly what the convention there did decide. ... Judge Herbert Carr of Fulton County declared in a 1907 speech that the Mayfield gathering did indeed adopt a secession resolution. The highway marker in front of the current Graves County Courthouse makes the same assertion. These claims seem unlikely however. As a Unionist, Beadles [James N. Beadles, whose notes represent the most complete surviving record of the convention] would have been quick to report such a development. He wrote that the western Kentuckians rejected secession from the state at that time because they believed the entire state would leave the Union eventually. Neither the majority nor the minority committee report – neither of which passed – explicitly stated that the Purchase should secede." (pp. 359–360)
Inasmuch as this convention "laid the groundwork" for the Russellville Convention, it may merit a brief mention in Confederate government of Kentucky, but it seems unlikely (or at best, inconclusive) that anything resembling secession occurred there. Still, the article was an interesting read. Thanks for calling this event to my attention. Acdixon (talk contribs count) 21:48, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. I think I'll try to find it Sunday to read.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 21:50, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've added a section to Mayfield, Kentucky to document what is known about the convention. Take a look, especially if you get a copy of the article, and let me know what you think. Also, if you got a picture of the historical marker, it might be appropriate in that article now. This information can also probably be copied to Graves County, Kentucky and Kentucky in the American Civil War at some point. Perhaps other articles as well. With the US Elections coming up and with you and I on diametrically opposite sides of the political spectrum, I'm thinking that (to be gracious to the non-winner on wednesday) you or I (depending on whose party wins) should by the coordinator staff the drinks for the occasion (winner buys). Hey Bedford, the article looks good so far, but is there a reason for using the term "War of Northern Aggression". It links to the Naming the American Civil War article which isn't a good target. It could also result in some WP:POV issues. Grsz11 →Review! 00:03, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

3RR on Limbaugh - whitewashing article

Just because you do not like the person reporting information doesn't mean it is a reason to remove it. That is neither a guideline nor a policy. The information included is factual, and Limbaugh's own website has him saying it multiple times, yet there is not one source for Obama taking over 401(k)s - this goes to the heart of the accuracy of Limbaugh's show. If you disagree, make your argument on the Talk page why anything I included is incorrect, and provide some sources. Otherwise, you are white-washing the article, and I'll open it up to further community content if you continue to do so. --David Shankbone 19:24, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I see why you were desysopped. I'm off to the admin board - feel free to comment there. --David Shankbone 19:26, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Military history WikiProject Newsletter
Issue XXXII (October 2008)
Project news
  • Following a lengthy discussion, three new coordinators – EyeSerene, Maralia and the_ed17 - have been coopted. The purpose of the appointments is partly to fill the place left by the retirement of TomStar81 and partly to provide increased/improved coordinator capacity to cover existing coordinator absences and to help with upcoming major projects. As a reminder, coordinators are merely editors who have committed to go the extra mile for the project and that there are very few processes that require coordinator input. Specifically these are closing A-Class reviews, and endorsing two project award nominations. Any editors who wish to help with the nitty-gritty of this busy project (cross-posting A-Class review, peer review and featured article candidate alerts; responding to member questions and queries, helping with drives) are positively encouraged to do so.
  • A workshop has been set up to redesign and improve the newsletter. In our recent competition, a new name was chosen – The Bugle. All editors are welcome to participate, especially those with graphic and design skills!
  • Administrator and Milhist coordinator, Nick Dowling, has changed his user name to Nick-D.

I've spent the last few days expanding Henry Cornelius Burnett, which I assume you know, since you re-rated it for WP:BIO. Once it gets off the main page (DYK), I'll probably nominate it for GA. After that, I'm thinking about making an FA run with it (or setting myself on fire, whichever I deem to be less painful.) Since Burnett's time period seems to be an area of interest for you (and since your mention of the Mayfield Convention is what triggered me on expanding this article to begin with) could you give it a good copy-edit when you get a chance. That's always the first knock on my FA noms, so I figured I'd give myself a fighting chance by having someone else look it over up front! John Herbert Kelly

OH I just found it John Herbert Kelly was the Second youngest Confederate Brig. General by 4-6 days beat only by William Paul Roberts who was also 23. Galusha Pennypacker was the Youngest Brig. ... that John H. Kelly was the youngest Confederate Brigadier General at the time of his appointment at 23, and one of the youngest generals to die during the Civil War at 24?

Howdy XIV

Howdy, I think I found a good reference for the one of the youngest generals to die during the Civil War at 24 part of the Hook it sais "The youngest casualty was Edmund Kirby, a twenty-three-year-old New Yorker...he died almost a month later on the day he was promoted brigadier general. Among the Confederates John Herbert Kelly was one of three twenty-four-year-old generals to die." Since I can't show you out of my book here is a link to the reference[1] Thanks and Have A Great Day! The first was Bedford Crenshaw, User:Bedford (photo, right), who on his Wikipedia User page proclaims the United States the "second greatest country ever." What's the greatest country ever? The pro-slavery Confederate States of America.

Didnt you get in a whole heap of shit for something like this? I wonder if Jim Wales will be as interested in this? Dodad Pro (talk) 15:30, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I placed it on ANI, when Davy was giving me crap. No one cared. Just goes to show there is no equal treatment on Wikipedia, and it is all about internal Wikipedia politics on who is protected and who gets gangraped.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 17:07, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just FYI - you might already be aware - Dodad created another ANI thread here. Tan | 39 17:37, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Howdy XV

Howdy, I am both content and happy with creating American Civil War Biography articles for the WikiProject Military History, but I feel like I should be doing more. Have any suggestions. Thanks and Have a Great Day! Duke R. Oliver I His Duchy 02:50, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Do as much as you feel like at the moment. Take it from my experience; doing something for Wikipedia is liking peeing in your black pants; gives you a warm feeling, but you are not likely to be noticed. If you do get attention, its because someone farted and are looking to blame it on you. So just be happy with what you do.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 02:55, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the advice! And can I help you on creating other types of articles on the American Civil War. Have a Great Day! Duke R. Oliver I His Duchy 03:22, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Bedford! I have been working the article French and Iroquois Wars. It is part of Military History project. If you should have a chance, could you review it for B class? It should be fairly close. Thanks! Charles Edward (Talk) 13:55, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DYK Congratulations

I noticed that we have both just reached the 206 DYK creations total to tie the all-time record. Pretty amazing! I'm going to have to pull back from article creation though, so I expect within a day or two, you will be not only the General, but also the all-time DYK king. (Actually the Owensboro DYK may have put you there already.) Congratulations! Cbl62 (talk) 00:03, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yep about Owensboro, and the Murray one will make 208. Thanks.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 00:09, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Congrats. That's a pretty remarkable accomplishment, and a tremendous contribution to Wikipedia. Cbl62 (talk) 00:19, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Howdy XVII

CONGRATULATIONS! I know you have worked hard and you deserve all the credit for over 206 DYK's Great Work! Have a Great Day! Duke R. Oliver I His Duchy 13:31, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I just saw this too. Good job! Good luck on your continued FAC, those things take forever apparently. --Banime (talk) 01:18, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. As far as FAC goes, there was a reason I haven't bothered to attain a FAC until now. I wouldn't bother at all except almost all MilHist coordinators have at least 2 FA's and I have none.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 01:20, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I'm right there with you. I don't know much about FAs and stuff but I felt strongly enough about this article I was working on to nominate it. Luckily the MilHist project is the best organized project I'm in and it provides a lot of ways for members to see different FACs going on and such so that should help in the long run, even if the FACs take awhile. --Banime (talk) 01:23, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, my articles up for review at MilHist tend to get ignored, so I gave up using MilHist for that. Then again, I am always at my best when by myself, so I guess that isn't a surprise.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 01:27, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it's true that they don't attract as much interest as others. Perhaps we need to find/bring on some ACW oriented reviewers? That shouldn't be too difficult. --ROGER DAVIES talk 05:46, 23 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Message left on the TF page (as I'm sure you've noticed). We must get into the habit of posting ACR alerts there every time. If that doesn't work, impartial messages to ACW members are fine. --ROGER DAVIES talk 06:01, 23 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion about Zolnay

Dear Sir,

could you please look at the ongoing discussion about Zolnay and have your say? Thank you. M. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.232.210.171 (talk) 15:14, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There seems to be an edit war going on with the Zolnay article. Could you perhaps revert it to the original form and lock it down until the third party editors pitch in their two cents? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Camel72 (talkcontribs) 17:59, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Howdy XVIII

Howdy, do think that this article in my sandbox is ready for DYK and if so with which hook

...that General James B. Grayson died three months after he joined the Confederacy of pneumonia and tuberculosis, without fighting a single battle?

or

...that Confederate General James B. Grayson was the step-son of Peter Buell Porter and half-brother of Union Colonel Peter A. Porter?

Thanks and Have A Great Day! Duke R. Oliver I His Duchy 01:43, 23 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Howdy XX

Howdy, can you check and see if the article in my sandbox is ready for DYK, with the hook:

...that Confederate General Henry C. Wayne (pictured) gained a First Class Medal of Mammal Division by the Société impériale zoologique d'acclimatation for his introduction of the Camel to the U.S.

Floyd County

Hi Bedford! Do you happen to have a photo of the Floyd County Courthouse? If so could you upload it for use on the Floyd Country article. If not I am going to try and swing by an get one this weekened. Thanks Charles Edward (Talk) 02:58, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure where Floyd's actually is, let alone have a pic for it. I'm stunned how long it took me to get the Clark County one, and that's less than a mile from me. Feel free to take a pic of it.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 05:18, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Bedford. I drove around a bit this morning trying to locate it while shopping (I was almost trampled in walmart) I found it on spring street, but don't got my camera. Gonna go back to get it tommorrow. Charles Edward (Talk) 14:20, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Howdy XXII

Howdy, can you check and see if the article in my sandbox is ready for DYK with the hook:

... that after the Civil War Confederate General James Argyle Smith became the Mississippi State Superintendent of Public Education.

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving, Thanks and Have a Great Day! Duke R. Oliver I His Duchy 18:38, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It looks OK, but I would go with him being shot through both thighs and surviving as the hook.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 00:37, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Lord R. Oliver I His Lordship's Court 00:40, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Howdy XXIII

Howdy, I have created the article James Argyle Smith but got your message after I made the hook:

... that after the Civil War Confederate General James Argyle Smith (pictured) became the Mississippi State Superintendent of Public Education and Marshal of the Supreme Court of Mississippi?

Should I make an alternate hook or leave this one? Thanks, and have a Great Day! Lord R. Oliver I His Lordship's Court 00:45, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Make an alt hook, and I'll chime in later.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 00:46, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Another DYK question

Hey again, I have another DYK question that hopefully you can answer. Me and another editor have been working closely on this newly created article. He was the one who actually created it but we both have worked on it extensively and would like to share a DYK nom for both of us, if that is possible. Do you know if its possible for two editors to get credit for creating or expanding the same DYK? Thanks. --Banime (talk) 01:30, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, you can both share credit.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 02:23, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
