Hi, Claygate, and welcome to Wikipedia! The size and scope of this project can sometimes be daunting for newcomers, so I thought I would say hello and offer you a few helpful links that might make contributing easier (and I do hope you will continue to stay and contribute).

If you've still got questions, the FAQ and the Help desk are good places to start. Listing yourself at the new user log will likely guarantee a response from friendly fellow editors as well. If there's anything I can help with, don't hestitate to drop me a note on my talk page -- just remember to sign your comments with four tildes (like this: ~~~~) and your signature will automatically be added.

Thanks particularly for your contributions and comments on Habitat for Humanity; I've edited your additions a little bit so they're a little better formatted for the wiki ("wikified") and switched a sentence or two. If you or another editor doesn't beat me to it, I plan on tackling the new criticisms section there shortly; I think it is important to have the material in there, but some of the assertions those paragraph make certainly do need to be verified or reworded to better align with a neutral point of view.

Again, welcome!

Frost column

Hi Claygate! I just created the article frost column. The phenomenon appears to be somewhat similar to Frost flowers but the shape is unmistakenly different, also in the Japanese version ( ja:霜柱 ) which is where I got the information. What do you think? Is any merging required? Jason7825 02:30, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jason, I think it is different enough to keep in a separate article and I see that you have added it to the See Also section of both articles, which is good, thanks. --Claygate 03:24, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: User 162.58.0.60

Hi, I unlisted that vandal because he had not vandalised for a long time: you reported him at 19:26, 30 December 2005; his last vandal activity was at 13:55 that same day - that's just under six hours later. The way I see it, he seems to have stopped. Also, in my opinion, he has not been sufficiently warned: he has only been given {{test3}} - what about {{test}}, {{test2}} and {{test4}}? TAMU page

Just wanted to give you a heads up that I replied to your comment on the TAMU page. Thanks for all of your citations! Dothivalla 02:34, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of source of article.

I've reverted the removal for the source of the monk article. When I wrote this page, I used that source with the author's permission. Recently, I realized that it didn't have a link and I added it in. Please see the history of the page. My old username was AlexPlank. I will sign in with that name to prove it if you want. Perl 20:19, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Alex, I don't understand why you need the author's permission since you were the author. It seems like just a way to promote your other website rather than a source of lots of Monk content. --Claygate 22:46, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Correct version

Yes, I see that now. Thanks, Tom Harrison Talk 02:13, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't remove the report, I only commented on it. I realize that the user's edits go against consensus, but from what I saw, the user likely doesn't know that. All they've seen is being accused of vandalism, which a content dispute is not, and which is likely not what the user intended their edits to be. I suggest leaving a note on the user's talk page explaining about the page's consensus rather than biting a newbie's head off with a block. Regards, —bbatsell ¿? 04:50, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey James, Check out the wiki article ive been working on Andman8 03:24, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up, really good article! --Claygate 12:38, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

KISD

It's probably BS so I moved it to the talk page. Andman8 01:03, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

KISD is one billion in debt so i also highly doubt "der fuhrer world" has any funding. Andman8 03:56, 30 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia as a source

Uh - A lot of schools and organizations forbid using Wikipedia as a scholastic resource. Have you ever tried citing Wikipedia as a source in a university essay? Universities won't let you use Wikipedia because Wikipedia doesn't have quality control that other sources have. It's simple, really. WhisperToMe 19:57, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I doubt very few universities block the access to it, though - that's the controversy. --Claygate 01:03, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing in print or on google but maybe the katy sun will do an expose eventually. Andman8 02:46, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just a note, summaries like this are not made by the editors/anons themselves, but are actually automatic edit summaries. Thanks, :) Cbrown1023 23:18, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize that and is good to know, as otherwise it make the vandals seem even more blatant. --Claygate 00:05, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User did NOT state they were blanking the page.

When you listed User:216.54.49.234 for vandalism on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism, you stated that the user even announced that they were blanking the page. That is not correct. In some cases, the MediaWiki server software can generate a edit summary. This is normally the case when the page is created, is blanked, or is completely replaced.

Such pages gets a description like "Blanked Page". Please note the arrow link. You may wish to read it further. Will (Talk - contribs) 01:04, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Got it and already notified about that, thanks. --Claygate 13:34, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism warnings

A few days ago you left a {{test4}} warning [1] for 69.134.219.59 (talk · contribs) regarding a edit [2] to the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma article. While fighting vandalism is very frustrating for all of us, jumping to a fourth level warning seams ... excessive considering that was the person's only edit for the day (and only their third-ever edit to wikipedia). As multiple people (sometimes hundreds or even thousands depending on the local network configuration) can share the same IP address, typical procedure is to leave escalating levels of warnings starting with {{test}} or {{test1}} after each vandalism incident. Most administrators will not block a vandal unless the editor has been stepped-up through three or four vandalism warnings within 24 hours and the editor still persists in vandalizing. --Kralizec! (talk) 02:40, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I created this article and would love your help in expanding it. Thanks! --Blueag9 01:23, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, will try to help where possible. --Claygate 17:09, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sting

He played guitar both in studio album and shows, as it can be seen in mid-1980s. Ok, I have hundreds good edits in music topics, how could I say bullshit?--Doktor Who 17:23, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dok, maybe you should say he "also played guitar" in the 80's. I saw him twice live during the 80's (early 80's with Police and late 80's on his own) and both times he mainly played the bass. He played guitar also for solos, so I'm not saying he didn't play the guitar. Maybe you should just rephrase it a bit. Cheers, --Claygate 17:34, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed I meant that he played mostly guitar in his solo career, since his first solo record and subsequent tours, as it can be seen in various clips and vhs of those times. Lately, he has played mostly bass again. I can remember that the young fans were upset cos he no longer played the bass. --Doktor Who 17:39, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Senior military college

Clay, Texas A&M is indeed a senior military college. While our IP "friend"'s edits were unwelcome and unnecessary (especially considering it is mentioned in the 4th 3rd paragraph), your facts are wrong in this case. BQZip01 talk 03:07, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No worries man. One team, one fight.
You an Aggie? If so, we're working on getting the A&M article upgraded to FA status and we could always use a fresh set of eyes. If not, well, I guess it doesn't matter, we could still use a fresh set of eyes. :-)
Feel free to add a little to your user page. If you need some ideas, please let me know. It doesn't take much to get it going and it personalizes Wikipedia so much more. BQZip01 talk 04:36, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Finish Texas A&M University article

This is a request to assist in finishing the Texas A&M University article for FA status. We need just a couple of people to read the article and the discussion and then sign off the remaining items to be checked. Once this is done, we will submit for Featured Article status. Even just checking off one item would help, so please do what you can BQZip01 talk 06:20, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the assistance. Every little bit helps! So an Oklahoma State Aggie with a son as a Texas A&M Aggie. I've always felt a kindred spirit with those land-grant schools. I have nothing against them and I think they are generally the best overall schools in their respective states offering the best balance of education and "the other education." Too many of the Universities of states (not "A&M" or "State") have a liberal lean and/or an elitist attitude. It's kind of amusing to see them when they enter the military and get brought down a peg or two,
Well, your son: is he a current student? In the Corps? What's his major?
I'm just being a little nosy curious. BQZip01 talk 15:31, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

See what I've been up to

And thank you for the itunes gift card. I've been a bit sparse on wikipedia lately but for good reason I think.

Check out the cool stuff I've done at centiare like boxing, page creations my SEO business, and even me. Andman8 17:53, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Assistance Request

I have decided to try and upgrade the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band article to Featured Article status (from a normal article...quite a leap) all by myself. I think its pretty damn good right now, but I would appreciate a once-over before I submit it in 24 hours (6 AM CDT). Once submitted, I expect unconditional some support from you guys. Thanks in advance. :-) BQZip01 talk 10:51, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, I'll check it out this evening. --Claygate 16:57, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I've gone and done it and the Aggie Band article is up for Featured Article status. Any feedback (especially support) would be greatly appreciated. BQZip01 talk 08:24, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well folks, thanks to your reviews and comments, the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band is now a featured article on Wikipedia. It should take a day or so to update, but it's a done deal. Thanks for the help, Claygate. BQZip01 talk 19:29, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not trying to be TOO picky or sound desperate, but any chance you could issue me a barnstar or other award. No one seems to be giving those out any more and I'd like to hang one on my "desk." BQZip01 talk 22:39, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A request for your help with my research

Dear Claygate

My name is Jim Sutton and I'm undertaking research in the School of Library, Archive, and Information Studies, UCL.

My research involves studying wiki usage, the reasons why individuals use wikis and the benefits/disadvantages of using wikis to manage knowledge.

I noticed a contribution of yours to the article on wikis and I was wondering if you would agree to my analysing your contributions to Wikipedia. This will basically involve calculating how many times you've contributed to Wikipedia within the time period of a week.

I was also wondering what your reasons are for using/contributing to Wikipedia. I'd be extremely grateful for any feedback you can provide.

If you agree to my analysing your contributions and can provide any feedback as to why you contribute to Wikipedia I’d be very grateful. My email address is james.sutton (at) ucl.ac.uk and can be emailed at this address if you agree and have any feedback or questions.

I also have a survey online which I'm using as part of my research at:

http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/stqa7937/survey/

My Wikipedia username is Sutton4019 and my research is being carried out jointly with Melissa Terras at UCL. Her email address is m.terras (at) ucl.ac.uk .

If you have any questions please let me know and thank you for your time. Thanks! --Sutton4019 09:32, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Request for assistance

As someone with whom I have reviewed or worked with on an article or talk page, I humbly request your assistance in reviewing the Aggie Bonfire page for Featured Article status. Any/all constructive input is welcomed and appreciated on the FAC nomination page, but please read the instructions for reviewing before you make a comment. Thanks in advance for your assistance. Twilight Zone

The Twilight Zone was not always written with intellectual rigor (we are talking television, and 1950s television at that), but I would say that Serling was trying to do actual science fiction, not "sci-fi." --Orange Mike 12:55, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
