Hi! This is my talk page, feel free to drop me a message. To experienced editors: feel free to stalk my talk page and reply to any threads here.To admins: I prefer that my talk page remain unprotected, even if it's being vandalized. Such edits do not particularly bother me and I prefer to remain accessible to anyone who would like to reach me. However, if the volume of vandalism is so high that no other solution would stop disruption, I don't mind if my talk page is semi-protected for a day or two. Hopefully, this is a rare occurrence.

December music

story · music · places

November was rich in sadness and happiness for me, expressed in music. Today is the last day for the election of arbitrators. Regarding my question to candidates like you, I found one so far who looked into the matter and didn't stay at the surface, Simonm223. There are two composers on the Main page today, Siegfried Thiele and Aaron Copland. I find the response of my friend Jerome Kohl to a question on Copland's article talk promising. What do you think? -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:47, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Today's story comes from a DYK about a concert that fascinated me, and you can listen! For my taste, the hook has too little music - I miss the unusual scoring and a specific dedication - but it comes instead with a name good for viewcount. I'd still like to know what you think about the Copland posts. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:56, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

On the Main page today Jean Sibelius on his birthday. Listening to Beethoven's Fifth from the opening of Notre-Dame de Paris. We sang in choirs today. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:49, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Listen today to the (new) Perplexities after Escher. - Congratulations to being elected! Could you look at Samuel Barber and tell me if you miss something in his infobox? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:33, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Listen today to Beethoven's 3rd cello sonata, on his birthday - it was a hook in the 2020 DYK set when his 250th birthday was remembered. I picked a recording with Antônio Meneses, because he was on my sad list this year, and I was in Brazil (see places), and I love his playing. - I can report happily that the Barber situation was solved. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:24, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I come to fix the cellist's name, with a 10-years-old DYK and new pics - look for red birds --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:42, 18 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

2025 Arbitration Committee

The Arbitration Committee welcomes the following new and returning members following their election by the community. Their two-year terms formally begin on 1 January 2025:

The one-year terms of these members also begin on 1 January 2025:

Upon meeting the Wikimedia Foundation's criteria for access to non-public personal data and signing its corresponding confidentiality agreement, all incoming members will be subscribed to all Committee-managed email lists, assigned the CheckUser and Oversight permissions for use in office, and given access to the CheckUser and Oversight queues on the VRT system.

We also thank our outgoing colleagues, whose terms end on 31 December 2024:

Outgoing members are eligible to retain the CheckUser and Oversight permissions, to remain active on cases accepted before their term ended, and to remain subscribed to the functionaries' and arbitration clerks' mailing lists following their terms on the Arbitration Committee. To that effect:

  • Stewards are requested to remove the permission(s) noted from the following outgoing members, who have not chosen to retain them, after 31 December 2024:
    CheckUser: Firefly, L235
    Oversight: Firefly, Guerillero, L235, Moneytrees
  • Outgoing members are eligible to remain active on cases opened before their term ended if they wish. That will be noted on the proposed decision talk page of affected case(s).
  • All outgoing members will remain subscribed to the functionaries' mailing list.
  • All outgoing members will be unsubscribed from the clerks-l mailing list, with the exception of Firefly, Guerillero, and Moneytrees, who have chosen to remain subscribed.

On behalf of the Committee, Sdrqaz (talk) 02:44, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

OCA feature request

Since I don’t want to start a fourth level of forking, I would like to ask you to add a feature to your OneClickArchiver script that asks for confirmation before using it on mobile, or at least adds that as an option. JJPMaster (she/they) 20:51, 15 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@JJPMaster sure. Maybe an option in general? Not sure if trying to detect mobile really makes sense, but could definitely add a setting to always ask for confirmation first. Elli (talk | contribs) 16:28, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, that sounds good. JJPMaster (she/they) 16:31, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Benmoulton on History of Southwest Airlines (16:24, 16 December 2024)

Hello! Would the use of the term immediately in "Muse immediately changed the name of the airline to Southwest Airlines, moved its headquarters to Dallas, and raised $1.25 million (of which $750,000 was from Wesley West) to replenish cash reserves depleted by Southwest's legal battles." be considered a breach of tone? It feels to me like a subjective use of immediately...

Thanks! --Benmoulton (talk) 16:24, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Benmoulton good question. It's not the best wording, it'd be better to be more specific if the source has more details (e.g. "within the first X days"). Elli (talk | contribs) 16:27, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from ROCKS2LIT (09:12, 18 December 2024)

Hello how can I make a Wikipedia artist page? --ROCKS2LIT (talk) 09:12, 18 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@ROCKS2LIT hi! Help:Your first article has some general advice. However, if you want to make a page about yourself, I would strongly discourage this: writing about subjects where you have a conflict of interest is difficult, as it is almost impossible to write with a truly neutral point of view on such subjects. Please let me know if you have any more questions :) Elli (talk | contribs) 04:07, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Happy holidays!

A golden Wikipedia logo with stars, balloons, and the words "New Year" Happy holidays and a prosperous 2025! LE
(sounds like Elli!)

Elli(e), it has been a year. Thank you for taking 1964 Illinois House of Representatives election through the FA process (a fabulous article on a crazy election). Thank you for reviewing 1934 German head of state referendum, and thank you for running the gauntlet (twice!). I cannot wait to work alongside you on ArbCom, and I know you will be a fantastic arb. It was a delight to meet you in person at WCNA, and I hope to see you again soon. Best to you and yours in 2025 :) HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 22:59, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I've enjoyed getting to work alongside you as well, and look forwards to continuing to do so in 2025 :) Elli (talk | contribs) 23:09, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Prof. Asif Mehmood (08:18, 23 December 2024)

I want to make a Goohle searchable profile for myself, how to do it? --Prof. Asif Mehmood (talk) 08:18, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Prof. Asif Mehmood please don't. Wikipedia is not a place for self-promotion. We don't have "profiles" for people, we have articles, and those articles must be written neutrally and supported by reliable, independent sources. Elli (talk | contribs) 08:27, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Robert5181 on Max Kidruk (17:18, 28 December 2024)

Good morning, I am editing the Max Kidruk page. The information on this page is very different from the Max Kidruk website. Should I update the page by adding his new books and projects? This would result in very significant changes. --Robert5181 (talk) 17:18, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

OCA bug report

Steps to replicate:

JJPMaster (she/they) 19:00, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@JJPMaster this isn't exactly a bug, it's just the archiver not being particularly smart. Your "max archive size" is set at 75k, but Archive 1 isn't yet at 75k, so it'll put the message there before looking for other archive pages. Elli (talk | contribs) 19:25, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to the 2025 WikiCup!

Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2025 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page.

For the 2025 WikiCup, we've implemented several changes to the scoring system. The highest-ranking contestants will now receive tournament points at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are now open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants will no longer be eliminated at the end of each round.

The first round will end on 26 February. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email), Epicgenius (talk · contribs · email), Frostly (talk · contribs · email), Guerillero (talk · contribs · email) and Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs · email). Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Question from JeromeMellor56 (23:18, 3 January 2025)

Happy NY! I’m trying to add a photo and caption to an existing Gallery section on Edmund Blunden’s page. I’ve clicked on Edit and there’s no dropdown menu for adding said photo --JeromeMellor56 (talk) 23:18, 3 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@JeromeMellor56 hi! I'd suggest uploading the photo to Wikimedia Commons first. The upload wizard there will give you the code to insert into the article. Please make sure the photos are under an appropriate license or in the public domain, though. Let me know if you have any more questions :) Elli (talk | contribs) 01:00, 4 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. When I exited my wikicommons downloaded photos and then went back to a photos list the Code no longer seems to be there…. JeromeMellor56 (talk) 05:31, 4 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from ItsMeCH11 (03:09, 8 January 2025)

I made an edit on the page about the battleship Strasbourg removing the word mistakenly as it is an opinion and removing it allows the page to have a neutral POV but I've been threatened with being reported for doing so. What are the rules on editing article in small ways to remove things like this? --ItsMeCH11 (talk) 03:09, 8 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
