It is not quibbling over technicalities, New Zealands uncodified constitution does not create legal provisions for the position of Prime Minster Designate no such position exists, one is either Prime Minister or Not, it is a role not succeeded to but appointed to, please refrain from adding the office back onto Chris Hipkins wikipedia page Knowledgework69 (talk) 07:25, 23 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I invited you to take this to the article's talk page not my personal talk page. Whether the disputed appellation "designate" is used or not, I think the infobox should note that he will (barring unforeseen circumstances or a constitutional crisis) be assuming the office of prime minister in two days. This is in accordance with New Zealand's unwritten constitution, in which the governor-general acts in accordance with the decision of the governing party. I'll let another editor revert your changes. --Hazhk (talk) 11:11, 23 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Kiwi (Nickname)

Hi There,

I saw you reverted my change to this; I'm still not certain this position is widely held enough to merit being in the lead, but as a compromise I've reworded the original again, as I do think the 'derogatory' element should be the end of paragraph, as it's not the primary position of most NZers. I also didn't like the link to ethnic slurs when it's clearly not that, the objection is not about it being used as a slur, but that people don't want to be associated with it.

It would be good if you could find some other sources for people describing it as derogatory; I can only find the one in the article. The Aus discrimination case seems to be more about being called 'Oi Kiwi' instead of their name! I think they would have objected to "Oi You!" just as much. Hi. I think the reworded sentence is fine. I admit I was not aware of the details of that discrimination case, and so I wonder if the current summary of the case in the article is lacking... I'll look for some further references. Thank you. --Hazhk (talk) 17:40, 13 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
