Please see Commons:Commons:Derivative works. Only the copyright holder has the legal ability to authorize a derivative work. Taking a screenshot of someone else's work doesn't give you rights to it. Do you actually have permission from the original copyright holder to release this image under the license you indicated? If he/she said, "you may use it on Wikipedia" or something like that, that is NOT sufficient. He/she must specifically authorize you to use it under a free license suitable for Wikipedia. The creative commons license you had selected is fine, as long as it is accurate and not a part of our "make up whatever license I want to" program.

That said, you need to actually mention this conversation/permission on the image description page itself. Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion gives as a part of criterion for speedy deletion G12, "Uploader does not assert permission (for images: no assertion aside from tags) or fair use, or the assertion is questionable". In other words, if the image description page does not make a prima facia case that it is a legitimate image, it can be speedy deleted.

The BEST PRACTICE would be for the copyright holder to email Wikipedia (see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission#When permission is confirmed). That way, there is no question whatsoever. BigDT 00:01, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

BigDT: The copyright owner has assigned the license to the work. Since they had done this, removing their license would be like removing a copyright. I will make this more clear in the post after reading your reference links. Thanks. Liberty4u 02:53, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Follow-up: I will make sure that the the Advocates post the image and license on their website (theadvocates.org) to avoid doubts on the license validity in the future. Thanks. Liberty4u 03:54, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Currently this has not happened yet, and there doesn't appear any other proof of your assertion here... Shinobu 19:59, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
