Welcome

Welcome!

Hello, Loom91/Archive 1, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question, ask me on my talk page, or place helpme on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!  -- Hoary 07:55, 2005 May 31 (UTC)

Wait!

I'm not as new as you think. Only that I was too lazy to register an acount. I've extensive edits in multiple featured articles, have sucessfully campaigned for renaming and have many other minor edits. Please stop editing the JF page and let's have a discussion. Loom91 08:33, 31 May 2005 (UTC)

Perhaps the best place for a discussion is on the talk page of Jamaica Farewell. -- Hoary 08:58, 2005 May 31 (UTC)

Supported, looks good to me now that there are references. Phoenix2 21:13, September 1, 2005 (UTC)

Mohin

Hi, I just put up a lengthy article on Mohiner Ghoraguli. Info about the band is very difficult to find. If you can help with an album cover image, would really appreciate that. Thanks. --Peripatetic 17:07, 3 September 2005 (UTC)

I do have that song, how do you want to get it? -- Peripatetic 17:41, 4 September 2005 (UTC)
Just sent the song. Please let me know if you got it ok. --Peripatetic 18:00, 4 September 2005 (UTC)

fractional calculus

You are way ahead of me. I was just beginning to study gradients and parametric surfaces when in was in 10th grade. I did some independent speculation about fractional derivatives, but it was before I further examined Gamma Function.

Style tips

Hi Loom91. Just some tips, based on this edit of yours. The link Sets should be instead sets, and the link Functions should be functions. That is to say, links should be lowercase, and for the function link, it should not point to function, rather, to function (mathematics). Thanks. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 21:01, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your tips. I actually knew that, but I was in a hurry so I forgot. Loom91 09:04, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

Jebus Christ Username Blockage

Hi Loom91. Thank you for the supportive words on my discussion page. You have prompted me to begin a petition to have this username reinstated. Would you be willing to sign your name to in the petition section of my discussion page? User talk:Jebus Christ. Thanks in advance Jimididit 02:37, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks a million for your support in this. I appreciate it. Jimididit 00:02, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

Just an update on my little crusade. I thought you might find it interesting to know that Secretlondon (admin and the person who requested the block) has, in some capacity, actively defended the mahomad images from vandalism. It seems that it's ok to offend other cultures but not hers. Jimididit 10:53, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

Hi Loom91, I see you made some amendments to the policy page. Good luck with it. If you want to start a poll all you need to do is add a new section titled "Poll" with space for support and space for Oppose. I myself have given up on the idea and have started my own wiki instead. Gerard Foley 08:16, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

Images are thumbed so that readers can choose whether or not to see the large versions, and to make pages load more quickly (especially important for people on dial-up). Increasing the size of a thumbed image defeats the object. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 13:15, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

  • You will notice that a very large number of images in Wikipedia are not thumbed. Aesthetic considerations must be taken into account, and that image looks horribly ugly when thumbed. It is not Wikipedia policy or guideline to thumb images, we must select whatever looks better. Please keep the image in a size sufficiently large to look good. Loom91 15:17, 29 March 2006 (UTC)
That it looks "horribly ugly" is a matter of opinion (not mine); that it causes loading of the page to slow down is a matter of fact. You also keep reverting to the dubious claim about the fame of something that most readers won't have come across, and a piece in odd English about another band, which isn't obviously relevant in this article. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 16:03, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
  1. Again, that the image causes the page to load more slowly when it's increased in size is a fact, not a a Wikipedia policy. That other articles have (often ridiculously) over-sized images is true, and they also need to be reduced. I do it when I come across them, and there is rarely any complaint.
  2. The material about Mohiner Ghoraguli belongs in Bangla bands, not in this article.
  3. Concerning the use of "famous", you make the point perfectly; it's subjective (or, at least, culturally relative). It would make sense to tell the reader that it's famous among readers of Bengali literature, but not siomply to state that it's famous; those for who it is famous will know that alreasy, and those for whom it isn't will disagree. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 08:22, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

So far we've compromised on the image size and agreed on "famous". Just two to go, one of which isn't mentioned above.

  1. As explained at Wikipedia:Use subheadings sparingly , subheadings should be used... well, sparingly. You're trying to introdcue an unnecessary subheading that creates a two-sentence, line-and-a-third section. Why?
  2. The text that you keep trying to introduce is: "Though the title of first Bangla Band in epar Bangla(West Bengal in India) is usually given to Mohiner Ghoraguli, they came long before the popularisation of Bangla Bands, lone rangers in a hostile enviorment." This is both irrelevant to Chandrabindu and poorly written and presented. Leaving aside the spelling and spacing, the "lone rangers" stuff is purplish and unencyclopædic. The main problem, though, is the irrelevance; it's relevant to the kind of music, not this specific band. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 15:07, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Hi

It seems you are the one who let me know about the Hare School article in my talk page. The article is great. However, I stubbed it for a reason. Let it remain as a stub for some days, may be a month (unless, of course, you add a lot of information meanwhile). In stub condition, often more Wikipedians are attracted to improve the article! BTW, please feel free to improve Kolkata and also add Kolkata related articles. Thanks.--Dwaipayanc 13:39, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

Hi! Again technical mix-up. This time you are sufferer. Please re-edit. Seems we are working simultaneously! Bye.--Dwaipayanc 13:54, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
Why don't you add a school infobox in Hare School, as in Barasat Peary Charan Sarkar Government High School ? The Saraswati Puja photo has to be shifted somewhere down in that case. Bye !--Dwaipayanc 16:06, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you for moving Kolkata to the Good Articles list. Bye.--Dwaipayanc 14:05, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

Glad to do it! I have now voiced my opinion.Brian1979 13:26, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

FYI, I voted in the poll like you asked. I voted Support in the poll, But oppose is still winning. The Republican 22:09, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for calling the censorship poll to my attention. Just to be absolutely sure, we are now voting on the 2nd poll, the first one has been abandoned right? I'm just asking because a lot of people seem to still be voting on the original proposal. - Serodio 14:59, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

  • We are now voting on the second poll, it is an unfortunate misunderstanding that people are still voting in the first poll. It's my fault actually, I should have been more specific in my messages. WOuld you (or someone else) mind leaving these users a short note on their talk page notifying them of their mistake and pointing to the second poll. Because of these "wrong" votes, we are potentially getting a skewed idea of consensus here. Thank you.Loom91 18:09, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

Spamming user talk page - censorship

Stop spamming user talk pages with this censorship stuff. You get blocked for disruption.--Commander Keane 13:35, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Your 'proposal' that Wikipedia allow sexual depiction of minors if obviously impractical, since doing so will allow Wikipedia to be prosecuted in the US and closed down. Please think a little. DJ Clayworth 17:20, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
I'm not spamming user pages and the policy explicitly forbids anything against US law, so both of these claims are baseless. I've not violated any Wikipedia policies, so I do not see how I can get blocked. Loom91 17:46, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

I agree, I seemed to have misunderstood the poll. --OrbitOne [Talk|Babel] 03:44, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

Blocked - disruption

You have been blocked for 24 hours for disruption - the spamming of user talk pages. I also left a note at WP:ANI so other admins can review the block. Sending out hundreds of unsolicited talk page messages to users is disruptive to Wikipedia, do not continue.--Commander Keane 12:10, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

You should have warned him first. Maybe he was not even aware of the rule. This is uncivil. ROGNNTUDJUU! 12:53, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
Yes a warning should have been issued first. I for one am very thankful of the message this user left me concerning the Wikipedia_talk:Censorship discussion. - Serodio 15:03, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
Feel free to look a teeny bit up the talk page -- you might noticed that he was, in fact, warned. .:.Jareth.:. babelfish 16:57, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
I have not violated any WIkipedia policy or even guideline. In fact my actions are permited by the Wikipedia policy on Spamming (see under subjeading Internal Spaming). Keane has blocked me for his personal reasons and not from the blocking policy. I believe it was a good faith mistake on the par of Keane and he assumed policies which were not actualy there, but it seems nobody is taking the trouble to unblock me. I've already emailed Keane and the mailing list, I'm losing valuable time here unable to edit Wikipedia. If someone else thinks I did not do anything wrong, would that person please unblock me/request an admin to unblock me? Thank you. Loom91 17:26, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
Please see this discussion for the reasons you have not been unblocked. You were blocked for disruption. .:.Jareth.:. babelfish 17:37, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
That discussion also seems to indicate that some editors think the block is unwarranted and I was not commiting any disruption. Wikipedia policies and a sense of what is best for the encyclopaedia allow me to do this (see below) and nothing prohibits me except the personal taste of some sysops. Loom91 18:05, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

Why I should be unblocked

I've already sent this to Keane and the mailing list, I'm saying it again here.

What really happened was that a poll on the proposed policy Wikipedia:Censorship is ongoing and I wanted to inform potentially interested users abut this, so I posted a short and polite message on their talk page requesting them to review the policy and make their opinions known (I did not ask them to vote for any particular side). Some users read this and voted (on both sides of the debate) and some even thanked me for bringing this matter to their attention. Not ll have the technical know-how, time or adventure necessary to keep track of such things.

In response, I was blocked by Commander Keane with only a very brief and informal warning with no mention of administrative authority that I had disregarded as routine pseudo-vandalism. Below, I detail why in my opinion the block was a mistake.

1)A user can only be blocked according to the Wikipedia:Blocking policy. In this case the section of the policy cited was Disruption, but Disruption includes no mention whatsoever of posting legitimate comments on talk pages. Loom91 18:02, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

2)The policy Wikipedia:Spam#Internal_spamming clearly shows that such postings are to be tolerated as long certain conditions are fulfilled, and all of these conditions were fulfilled in my case. It says

"Clean up your mess. For example, after engaging in cross-posting to promote some election, be sure to remove those cross-posts after the election is complete. Be open. Don't make cross-posts that initially appear to be individual messages. Be polite. Wikiquette issues are extra-important when a message is likely to be read by many people. Less redundancy. Rather than copying the same five page essay to twenty talk pages, write it once, in the place where it is most relevant, and then link to it. Don't use a bot. If you're not willing to spend the time personally sending the messages, don't force us to spend the time reading it (or throwing it away)."

3)I was not vote-stuffing. Disruption is "disrupting the normal functioning of Wikipedia". By involving a larger number of WIkipedia contributors in the discussion, I was facilitating better functioning of Wikipedia. You will notice that the the people I invited have voted on both sides and I also invited many who voted Oppose in the previous poll simply because they may be interested in the new poll.

Many editors have thanked me for bringing this matter to their attention as they are interested in making their opinions known and would not have found out otherwise. My message also (unlike some other instances) invited the editor to voice their opinion, not vote on a particular side. They were very polite and short requests that would annoy no one.

A high turnout at a vote is always regarded as a positive thing and makes for better consensus. Considering all, I hope you will agree that the block was not warranted and I should be unblocked and allowed to resume my work. I've worked at this project for a long time now and added a lot of content. I love the concept of an encyclopedia anyone can edit and it is a passion of mine. It grieves me to witness such misunderstandings and not be able to contribute to the project. Please set me free! Thank you. Loom91 18:20, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

I was sent a message by Loom91 and I'd like to thank him for doing so. In my humble opinion he should be un-banned. It should also be noted that I did not vote in accordance with Loom91. --Nicholas 21:58, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

It's a pity you're banned (HAHA! you got banned :-p). Aside from that, I thank you for correcting me on my stance. By the way, I do hope the proposal passes, but it looks shaky right now (50-50, i.e. no consensus).--Frenchman113 19:08, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

More on spamming

Wikipedia is a great place with lots of great people. When someone gives you a warning on your talk page, it's best to assume good faith and heed that warning - or at least consider it. If you thought my warning was vandalism, a short trip to my user page or Special:Listusers would have shown you otherwise.

You need to understand that Wikipedia is not a democracy, and that consensus doesn't need to have every/lots of Wikipedians involved to be established. Also, Wikipedia isn't a society where we spend our time writing rules and rules-lawyering - I don't need a law set in stone to block you for disruption. I made a judgement and acted. Many admins reviewed the block at WP:ANI and yet the block still stands - this must tell you something: spamming is not acceptable. There are other ways to draw attention to something - try a note at the Village pump, or maybe the Community Portal.

Spamming is disruptive, and if you continue will result in blocking without further warning. Many admins agree with this.

If you agree never to spam again I am more than happy to lift the block immedietely - just mention it here (I will be watching this page).--Commander Keane 07:59, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

  • I did not spam anyone, as you can see that many people were actually benefited by my messages instead of being annoyed. I will never spam anyone, but if you consider my previous actions to be spamming I can not agree to not repeat them. Loom91 09:27, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
      • When I noticed the message to me, I immediately thought about my userboxes. One automatically puts me into Category:Wikipedians_against_censorship. I looked at your contributions, and looked at that category, and when I noticed the overlap on the first couple ones, decided not to contribute. I looked at the page I was being directed to, and it has some stuff that sounds like voting, so I'm going to stay out of it for fear of this being a form of vote stacking. I suspect Commander Keane may have noticed this same pattern, and that's probably why they are asking you. I -am- interested in censorship topics, and this message would have been appreciated if you had said why you picked to message me instead of somebody else. But without telling me, I have to guess that you just were messaging everyone in Category:Wikipedians_against_censorship. --Atari2600tim (talkcontribs) 09:31, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

A number of people (including me) attested to the fact that the messages weren't unwanted, and disputed the claim of disruption and the application of an editing block. I think that, at the very least, this should be discussed (perhaps at Wikipedia talk:Blocking policy before another block is imposed. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 11:07, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

I'll add my name to the list of people who appreciated the message. Two more points: first, this is a discussion we should have had before Loom91 was blocked, not after (yes, I know he was warned, but it would have been constructive if the blocking parties had tried to find anyone who felt their user page was disrupted). Second, the block happened within a day of Sam Korn's RfC being deleted by Phil Welsh, over a technicality. The RfC was based on Sam Korn's action deleting an image, a move that already violated policies on consensus, and would easily fall under the proposed Censorship policy, on which a vote was being held (the reason for the talk page messages in the first place). If nothing else these two events together created a bad... I dunno... aura. :-/ -AK7 13:01, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
Aye, agreed.--Frenchman113 18:54, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

What the NOR debate is about

Slimvirgin changed policy by unilaterally rewording two parts of NOR to fit a definition favorable to a debate she was engaged in with another user. I objected to this definition as it existed because it could be abused by editors in and endless game of catch-you which would lead to endless debates and edit wars over synthesis. I then modified her contribution to try to bring balance and asked the community there to engage in a consensus forming poll or collaboration to ferret out our two versions to: form a compromise version, keep her version, keep my version, or to keep the original. Whatever consensus said would remain. Instead of civil discourse, this user resorted to name calling, accusations of a persons edit number, an elitist attitude towards new editors etc. etc. It all can be read...this lead to a revert war, where I went overboard to try to protect the original version before any changes..until consensus could be reached as the page itself says that consensus is needed for any changes of substance. I was blocked for this, an Arbcom member unblocked me when I expressed the sentiments above to him and the desire to revert no more as it is not useful even though I was trying to uphold policy and that I gave him my word on this, which I keep my word. While I was blocked the same said editor then decided to debate my version by distorting it. I could not respond. Even though the before said Arbcom member unblocked me, I still have not responded on my word to him. Not to get to lengthy...Thats it in a nutshell. There is no consensus for change, the original version should stay until consensus is reached, and civil debate or polling should commence to ferret out differences. So far this has not happened. Best wishes - --Northmeister 06:35, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

You officially recommended that I start a RFC or RFA. How do I do this in order to conclude the debate officially on NOR for all intent and purposes? --Northmeister 02:23, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

Re: A technical request for information

You asked at the Village Pump whether there was a tool to find out what IP addresses in a range have made contributions. There isn't that I know of, but it's easy enough to do for such a small range with some local scripting. So, as I wrote there, I wrote and ran the script and here's the output:

I can't make any absolute claims about accuracy since there very well might have been a bug in the script, but it's something. Cheers! — Saxifrage 21:54, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

Have you ever listened to Fossils (band)? Except a few songs, the lyrics are outright ridiculous. Their lyricist once said that their lyrics were based on introspection. A very strange sort of introspection it must be, for usually the lines don't have any meaning. I'm not talking about any inner meaning or message, the sentences simply don't mean anything! Fossils have produced only two songs of some quality. Cactus otota kharap noi, but good quality songs sei hate gona koekti. Hi! Sorry that I am intervening! Please go on with an article on East Calcutta Wetlands. In fact, I had some mention of it in Kolkata, but had to remove on certain grounds. (eg most of them have been converted to gheri or bheri, the fishing farms. So by truest definition, they are not probably wetlands! At least, not wild wetlands. This was ponted out by Nichalp (talk · contribs) in peer review, and I had to agree and modify. Also, the ever increasing size of the article was a concern.)
AFAIK, an International Baccalaurerate school is there in Kolkata, not sure if it's in Poilan.
Bengali user board is a great idea. You can develope a West Bengal portal, from where there will be links to articles as well as boards. See Portal:Kerala for guidance. Please also see Portal:India and Portal:Bangladesh. In fact, you can consult with users from Bangladesh, if you are intersted in creating a common Bengali board. Ragib (talk · contribs) and Shmitra (talk · contribs) are very active users from Bangladesh, besides many more.
I share with you the comment that if at all the majority of people understand rock philosphy and history here in WB.
A request: try to restrict your comments/messages in English. Other non-Bengali users can also read your talks, and communicate. Bye.--Dwaipayanc 05:48, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

As requested by Dwaipayanc, I shall try to limit my overly long ramblings in Bengali as much as I can. lol. I am taking Higher level English, Math and Chemistry and Standard Level Geography, French and Physics. I am quite angered by the way the West Bengal government deals with the environment. and they call themselves communist when they allow all these retarded shenanigans going on that help retards make money off of the environment and other people. i.e. Sonar Tori, Santiniketan. I can't stand how people are all happy and dandy about rich retards taking over the very very rare khoai. I do not deal with these things with a kind heart...
Anyways, to a lighter topic. The only bangla bands that I truly like are Bhumi and Mohiner Ghoraguli. Others I look at with extreme criticism....this is just my opinion, but i think that a lot of these Bengali rockers are posers. And Fossils are the posterboys for Bengali posers. Musicians that I really love are Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, The Doors, Queen, AC/DC, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Queens of the Stone Age, Audioslave, The White Stripes, The Strokes and System of A Down. I also starting to really like Magneta Lane. When I tell these to other people in India, they are surprised and they are like "err...aren't you from Santiniketan? How did this come about?" And in Canada, people are wierded out because according to stereotypes Indians don't like rock music. I am still however a huge fan of Indian music. I learned Hindustani Vocal Classical Music since I was six. I am a hardcore bhatiali and baul music fan. I am from Santiniketan after all: a child of the red earth. And I am obsessive over Bengali literature and often times I have many interesting interpretations of works that have not been studied very much on a critical, analytical and academic level. For example, I find so much social commentary on Sukumar Roy's work. And in Rabindranath Tagore's work too, I find a sort of Gothic tone, and sometimes misanthropic principles and philosophies, as well as rejection of traditions and society sort of ideas, which I of course rejoice. Yes. I am what Bengalis would call an "antel" oh and can I be in Wikiproject Bengal?BengalRenaissanceEccentrica 21:29, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
I don't see what lack of concern for the enviorment has to do with being a communist. Marx was not known to be an enviormentalist :) They are not communists, but the reasons have nothing to do with how they treat the enviorment. I'm also a most eminente and most noblest antel :D Thakur's work is of course very philosophical, but I never felt the same way about Sukumar Roy. I find him to be a brilliant writer (HaJaBaRaLa and Chalachittochanchari are probably my favorites), but not full of a critical take on the social dogmas like Lewis Carol. What sort of commentary did you find in his work?
I have to comment on something, I haven't ever heard of most of the groups you named. But I listen to English music a lot (I'm in fact musically tri-lingual). Vocal classical, huh? I can do that too. Let's see, aaah, aaaaaah... Umm, why are those dogs barking?
Your subject combination is not uncommon here. You have replaced the fourth subject from the Pure Science quartret (Physics, Chemistry, Math, Bilogy/Statistics) with Geography and Bangla with French. We may have a few of those Geography-in-science in our school too. I'll be taking Physics, Chemistry, Math and Stat. I don't want to have anything to do with Steel Industries of Jharkhand and Coffee belts of south India again! It's only been 1 month 3 weeks since the Madhyamik ended and I'm already studying more in a week than I did before the Madhyamik :(
Hey, look at this, I don't even know your name! Quel est votre nom, Mademoiselle?Loom91 06:16, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
Also, I find that the Bangla project had previously been created at Wikipedia:WikiProject Bengal but has become inactive due to the lack of participants. Loom91 11:42, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
In this post, I shall address each of what you said one by one. lol. Marx wasn't an environmentalist. true. what i meant was that the WB government has started to do things for solely for the sake of money. For example, truely what kind of people would get a benefit out of something like sonar tori. The rich of course! Oh how i wish those buildings just evaporate into thin air! As for Sukumar Ray, since I have lots to say, and believe me, lots, what ill do is on my free time ill find a list of social commentaries and write an essay on it and then ill put it up somewhere. Have you read "Shrishrishobdokolpadroom" and "Chalochitto Chanchori"? Both deal with the problem of knowledge and scholasticism and the fight between different schools of thought...with a satirical tone of course, but that is the aspect that makes it a social commentary. I understand why you dont know most of the groups I named. A lot of them are indie bands for Canada, US and UK. I dont know why you dont get them in india. I would guess its probably because most people like pop and hip-hop better. But these bands are really really great and I suggest you check them out. Other than my vocal classical skills, did you know that i can precisely imitate goats? oh yes. Its one of my well-hidden gifts. Sometimes, when I am in Santiniketan, I start doing it and all the stray goats in the neighbourhood/village congregate around my house and join me in unison. If you are ever to visit Santiniketan and see such event, you can now be sure it is only me. As for my uncommon combination of subjects, it is due to the way the International Baccalaureate Diploma program is structured. Each candidate must take at least one subject from the six subject areas (First Language, Second Language, Social Sciences, Experimental Sciences, Mathematics, and Arts) or he or she can take an additional social science or experimental science instead of an art. So that is why I have two sciences (Physics and Chemistry), a first language (english, although in reality my first language is bangla), a second language (french), a social science (geography), and mathematics. Basically in the IB program, even if you were going into the humanities, you would still have to take math and at least one science. The philosophy is to make a well-rounded person. Anyways. I enjoy geography too. It's just so much fun learning about how Ethiopian farmers starve to death while, north americans die of eating too much. the IB geography course in the standard level focuses more on the demographic and economic aspects so i dont have to really memorize paths of rivers and stremas. I truly enjoy it. English and French are awesome as well. I love existentialism. And in the math curriculum, we do calculus, statistics as well as geometry and algebra. So more or less, you and I are studying the same things. I LOVE math. anyways...as for my name, I am Aadita Chaudhury. Aadita means "shrishtir prothom" in Sanskrit. I am equivalent to the Biblican Eve or Lilith, whichever you prefer. I personally like Lilith better. anyways. Do you come on yahoo or msn messenger? you can add me at chaudhury_aadita@yahoo.ca...i also have an msn..but i wont say it here for the world to see. lol. Bye BengalRenaissanceEccentrica 23:07, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
Chalochittochanchari is my favorite Ray after HaJaBaRaLa. Remember Naxvomica-30? :D I have both a Yahoo! and a MSN ID, but I don't have nearly enough time to be actually active on those. After the studies, I barely find enough time to do daily maintenance tasks on the net. I'm severely alarming myself with the amount I'm studying, and I'm trying to motivate myself to put in a few more hours daily to cope with the pressure of preparing for IIT-JEE. I'm told that students start preparing for it from class 7, how horrible! Of my current teachers, only the Physics teacher seems to teach at the level of IIT-JEE, and that's a cause of concern. I'm particularly worried about my chemistry teacher, who knows a lot about chemistry (he's doing research on Inorganic Reaction Mechanism in JU) but seems to have a low faith in the abilities of his students and has set his standards very low. Anyway, I've rambled a lot about my studies. Do you know, I'm credited as the camera assistant in a Bangla Existensialist movie *gloat* :) Do you ever come to India? Loom91 18:38, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
Wow...the obsession with IIT-JEE. Sucks the last drop of life out of us children doesn't it? My goodness, you haven't even started class 11 and you are already worried about JEE? wow...and those people who start preparing from class 7....wow...that is my only comment. I cannot sometimes understand the need to get tutors....it just takes away everything...all free time...hobbies etc. Man that really sucks big time. oh and for which movie were you the camera assistant? The last movie I saw was 15 park avenue. That was in February. lol. And yes, I come to India every year for two months. This year, I shall be as well, but specifically to research on my Extended Essay. I am arriving on June 25. BengalRenaissanceEccentrica 22:23, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
Actually I find tutors to be important. They help me to focus my studies and provide guidance. They also let me experience better teachers when the teachers from my own school are not so good. My existensialist movie hasn't released yet, I believe it's due sometime in August or September. What are you writing your EE on? Loom91 11:55, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
my EE is most likely on either wastewater management in west bengal or the crisis of groundwater arsenic contamination and possible solutions. what's ur movie called? oh i have been wanting to ask...which bangla band is the going through its 15 minutes of fame at the moment? BengalRenaissanceEccentrica 01:36, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Hello

Hi! How are you doing? Kolkata is a featured article candidate now. You can visit the page and say something. Bye.--Dwaipayanc 16:59, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

Chandril

Hi Loom! Write an article on Chandril. It will be great. Did you read the poila boisakh article of Chandtil that appeared in Anandabazat patrika, regarding the forst vote of Apu? It was fantastic, jusr like his other articles. And do not worry much about reliable sources on Eastern wetlands. It's there. See some soutces cired in Kolkata. Also see this site for history of Saltlake. Plus you have recent newspaper articles like the one you mentioned. It won't be mush difficult to start an article, at least a stub. Go on. Bye.--Dwaipayanc 05:57, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Do not always worry about creating a great article right from the start. Begin with considerable content. Build up gradually.v Others will contribute gradually. I may sound pedantric, but it's really cool way. It's not disgraceful to start a stub, if it has good verifiable content. You may search through the "Kolkata-related topics" in "see also" section of Kolkata. Many of those are stubs, because not much content. But they needed to be there to support the mother article. Please help if you can improve those. Bye.--Dwaipayanc 06:14, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

LoL

Haha, you write quite correctly no one reads talk pages for entertainment! I just bumped into your discussion. Usually people just happen to go to some unknown talk pages. Basically, talks often start some germinating ideas. (for example, your own talks on east calcutta wetlands). Who knows, some person with no knowledge of Kolkata may peovide you, by chance, with great source on those. That's why I requested. We should consider the multi-lingual audience of the English wikipedia. Talk pages are not exactly private either. Please do not mind. Bye the way, thanks for supportinf passive voice! LoL. Peculiar suggestions people have. You can follow that guy (Bob) to know that he is not exactly pro-India. In fact, he put the article India for removal from featured article status. Nichalp and others had a great time refuting his points! Bye.--Dwaipayanc 06:09, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

bn wiki

Hi Loom, I was wondering if you've been to bn wiki. :) --Ragib 06:14, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

WikiProject: Bangla

Hi,

Before we go ahead with the idea of a new wikiproject, we need to see what we intend to cover under the new project. You may be able to bunch all Bangla related issues under Wikipedia:WikiProject Bengal which was created to cover the overlapping scenarios for Bangladesh and other Bangla-speaking territories (mainly the West Bengal of course). Also, it seems you are working on several articles involving Bangla words. Please refer to Bengali script to see the transliteration scheme that we have adopted (by months of hard work and discussion) on how to write Bangla words in English.

I am a little busy these days on non WP stuff, but time-to-time I shall be happy to contribute. In the meantime, I believe you are already in touch with User: Ragib who is now also an admin. He spends significant time on WP and I'm sure he'd love to help you out.

Cheers, -- urnonav 21:44, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

yeah well so i created this stupid stub. care to review it? Your valuable and constructive criticism is sought in this regard. thanks. BengalRenaissanceEccentrica 02:56, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

  • It's a nice start. You may want to consider taking a look at the format devoloped at Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools, Hare School which was written using the same template and a couple of Featured Articles on schools to see how they organise and present the information. Also consider Wikipedia:Citing Sources and WP:NPOV. Photographs make an article aesthetically more pleasing and convey information in a different format than text, so you may also consider adding some images. That should be enough to keep you working for a couple of months :) Loom91 06:22, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

Nomination of school

You have twice nominated an Indian school for speedy deletion. As stated for the talk page, there is no applicable grounds for speedy deletion. If you want to suggest it for deletion, you should go through articles for deletion. Capitalistroadster 07:09, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

  • For the record, I am an admistrator of 6 months standing. I have been active on Articles for Deletion for 18 months. I assess articles against the standards of speedy deletion which are much stricter than Articles for Deletion. In no way does this article meet the criteria for speedy deletion. If it was to be deleted, there would be a motion to undelete it. Capitalistroadster 10:27, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

Hi, on 3 April 2006 you "made way for disambiguation" by moving David Hare (the British playwright) to David Hare (dramatist). All links to David Hare are now redirects, and, using the search function, I couldn't find any other David Hare. Could you help me here? All the best, <KF> 17:17, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

Googling "David Hare", I just found this Scottish philanthropist. Were you thinking of him? <KF> 17:28, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

Non-notability

There's no time limit. The only relevant factor is whether or not notability is claimed: if it is, the article can't be speedily deleted by an admin, but has to be taken to WP:AFD. There's a 48-hour limit for speedily deleting a copyright violation, but I think that that's the only case where any such limit applies.

Advice to admins includes being cautious about speedily deleting an article on grounds of non-notability when a number of editors have edited it, which might in effect create a time limit. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 20:55, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

No, again, no time limit. Many AfDs are opened on articles that have been around for a long time; the only limitation of opening an AfD is that it should be opened in good faith (ruling out AfDs that violate WP:POINT, and often AfDs that are opened too soon after an article has passed an earlier vote). --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 08:31, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Hmm! I do not know much about him. The article, as you rightly pointed out, is full of translated songs which is rather unnecessary. I shall try to improve, but am short of time now. Sorry. If you can managa some time, please go ahead. Bye.--Dwaipayanc 09:26, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Proposals

Hi! I just gave a message to BengalRenaissanceEccentrica (talk · contribs). I am almost copy-pasting it to you too. If you write about West Bengal, many categories on West Bengal and Kolkata have been created. See Category:West Bengal. You can create more categories. However, try to make categories accotding to the ideal sections mentioned in a state article , as laid out in Wikipedia:WikiProject Indian states. So, you can make categoris like Category:Economy of West Bengal, Category:Flora and fauna of West Bengal etc. A good example is the categories under Kerala. See Category:Kerala. Portal:Kerala can be a nice example if you want to rejuvinate wikiproject Bengal. Bye!--Dwaipayan (talk) 15:02, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

I consider this to be well intentioned but misguided. Our style guides say, that all articles should start with an accessable introduction, when an article gets long and technical, it should be considered to split off the technical parts, not the introduction. --Pjacobi 12:04, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Reference Kolkata

Please see my reply in Kolkata talk page i reply to your message there, regsrding the refrences. When you replace inotes with ref format, please use Template:Cite web or Template:Cite news as applicable. These have been used in the rest of the article and provide comprehensive info on the cited sources. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 15:14, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

Darjeeling

Hi! Could you please have a quick look of Darjeeling? Please give your suggestions in the article's talk page. This is for an internal review before moving to peer review. Thanks. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 17:13, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

An article you may like

Hi, I just read what you wrote at the bottom of This FAC. You said that you didn't think it was even possible to write a article as detailed as that. You also said that you don't think making clear obvious assumptions that every is supposed to make counts as Orignial Reasearch. Based on that I think that you will really like this article. I was thinking of nominating it on FAC again. What do you think? Tobyk777 22:24, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

IAALBOAHL

Much as it's a nice idea, it looks too much like protologism to me, so I'm nominating it for AfD. Feel free to make your own argument for its defence. Confusing Manifestation 14:41, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi, It has been a few days since the censorship case has been brought up there, I'm wondering what the follow-up will be. (note: if you look at my user page it will say I am on wikibreak. I am not editing on Wikipedia anymore until the conclusion of this matter and surrounding ones, but will watch out for your reply or developments on this particular case)Elizmr 17:06, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
