Protein Crystallization

I received permission to reproduce it on Wikipedia, so I stuck it up there and forgot about it hoping someone would format everything properly. I took the time to format it and have now reposted it.

EC50 and Potency

Regarding your reverting my edit, [[1]], EC50 does in fact measure potency, see: http://www.icp.org.nz/html/pharmacodynamics.htm (click potency) and http://www.graphpad.com/help/Prism5/prism5help.html?reg_the_ec50.htm. --Fbi2thegrave (talk) 02:05, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That other molecule...

Hi Panoramix,

I'd be glad to help. Put up the article and put a note on my talk page, and I'll go and check it out. --Slashme 18:58, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nice article. I went through it, and made some small changes. You will see that I left an html comment in the text at one point where I think you left something out, though: in the section "Pharmacology" you say: "In comparison to Noladin is metabolically more stable" (actually you had said 2GE, not Noladin, but I kinda standardised on "noladin" to avoid confusing readers).
One more thing: Although png molecular structures are definitely perfectly acceptable, and the one that you drew is 100% OK, there is a growing move to use svg for line-art, so if you are going to be drawing lots of molecules, you might want to look into it. Check Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Chemistry/Structure drawing workgroup for more info.--Slashme 06:04, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Endocannabinoids

I would very much appreciate the help. My previous work dealt primarily with anandamide and CB1 receptor pharmacology, so I'm sure you're much more knowledgeable...I should be finishing up my grad school applications this week and so I can those articles started (of course, if you've got the time, feel free to start the pages, and I'll add what I can when I'm able.) Great chem box on NADA

Wow, that was fast; the chemical box looks great. I took a look at what it takes to make a chemical box, and it was a little overwhelming for me. I'm glad someone got to it so fast, so thanks, Rhetth (talk) 03:57, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry. At first I've thought that SMILES CCCCCCCC\C=C/CCCCCCCC(=O)NCCO is nothing but vandalism. So just give you a notic. But then recognized it and doesn't revert the page. It's a misunderstanding.Thank you and sorry again. Tanvir che (talk) 10:53, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done. I just consolidated a few sentences; your grammar was excellent. You added a lot of good info! Best, St3vo (talk) 14:47, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Drug Scheduling

Hi there. I was going off the list of scheduled substances on the Tocris website, and would consider them a reliable source seeing as they are the authorised suppliers for these compounds and are the ones who have to deal with the licensing requirements for supplying them. The "official" list on the DEA website is often out of date (note the bit at the top where it says This document is a general reference and not a comprehensive list), and the regulations with updated lists of what they do or do not consider illegal at any one time are not widely publicised. However if you wish to dispute this scheduling then change it back if you like, I can't really be bothered checking with either Tocris or the DEA for confirmation. Meodipt (talk) 09:53, 5 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I agree "zero abuse potential" is not really wiki language, just a snide dig on my part about the DEA's arbitrary way of scheduling compounds despite their having no possible potential for abuse (makes it really inconvenient for legitimate researchers!), but feel free to change it if you feel the wording is inappropriate.Meodipt (talk) 10:05, 5 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

JWH-073

JWH-073 is active both orally and when vaporised. The smoked dose is about 2-3 mg.

Could please add some more information on this issue. The section right now is not very clear, e.g. "active" in which way, I assume you mean psychoactive. Also the dose is not clear, 2-3 mg for an adult male human? Thanks, Panoramix303 (talk) 19:43, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Is my clarification any good? I'll try to find a source for the dose but I'm not sure whether information has been published yet - I suspect the figure comes from subjective bioassays. Turkeyphant 19:50, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I changed active to psychoactive. Paracetamol is also active but not in this sense. Please add a source as soon as possible, erowid is fine, too. -- Panoramix303 (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 19:56, 9 November 2008 (UTC).[reply]
I had the link going to psychoactive for clarity - in this context, the shorter "active" is more common in my experience. Turkeyphant 20:00, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bromophenol Blue

Hi Panoramix, I noticed that the chemical structure image for bromophenol blue is incorrect, there are currently four methyl groups where the Bromine atoms should be. Fyi, Toastbox (talk) 18:56, 26 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is really strange. The image is correct but once it gets scaled down only the Bromine atoms get lost while all the other heteroatoms stay in place. I try to figure it out. Panoramix303 (talk) 20:27, 26 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Had to fix the SVG by hand but now it works. Panoramix303 (talk) 20:42, 26 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Calcium-sensitive dyes

Calcium-sensitive dyes are small molecules or proteins which respond to a change in calcium concentration with either a color change or a shift in fluorescence intensity or maximum. They include the fluorescent chemical indicators:

and the non-fluorescent color indicators:

and the genetically encoded indicators:

They are widely used for measurement of calcium concentrations, also known as calcium imaging.

Adenosine

I need to talk to somebody knowledgeable about neurochemistry, specifically adenosine, to help me with this theory I have been thinking about. It all started when I was browsing the article talk on the caffeine page. I noticed that many people who said they had ADHD mentioned a sedative or calmative effect of caffeine. I was interested, so I started doing more research into the properties of caffeine and the causes of ADHD to see if there's any connection. Sure enough, I found that there is an explanation of ADHD (known as the low arousal theory) which speculates that people with ADHD live in a state of perpetually low arousal and are thus driven to seek stimuli more strongly than people without the disorder. Caffeine acts as an antagonist to adenosine receptors. Adenosine is a neurotransmitter that inhibits arousal. I found several studies on the effects of caffeine in hyperactive rats that seemed to confirm my suspicions, and although no studies have been performed on humans, it appears that people with ADHD have been dosing themselves with caffeine all along, without necessarily knowing the mechanism of action. So, in your opinion, how important is adenosine to ADHD? How effective is caffeine in treating ADHD? Are there any stronger adenosine receptor antagonists that have been used successfully to treat ADHD? Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SuperEditor (talkcontribs) 22:11, 15 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
