DYK for Rubber Room (film)

Graeme Bartlett (talk) 08:02, 19 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi Again!

Hope you enjoyed your vacation. My other mentor, Pol, went out of the country in June, was due back in July and to my knowledge never came back. Can we do some work soon? Would be great to get my user page looking like I know what I'm doing around here! "Selene Scott (talk)" —Preceding undated comment added 04:53, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

Yes, please lets get started. What sort of overall look do you want? I can help you design it if you give me a few details. Rcsprinter (babble) @ 19:47, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
Well, I like Occult themes and looks, like calligraphy writing and things commonly labelled as Gothic. Storms, fog, and mist.....So the user page tells about the user, what they do here on Wikipedia, right? What other types of info would be put on the user page?Does that help you any?"Selene Scott (talk) 09:12, 20 August 2012 (UTC)"
Okay, I've taken a thorough look at your user page and additional info I can provide is just that I have mostly edited articles on movies, actors, and directors. I guess I'd like area's for specific info like you have but with a dark, gothic look to it, if that's possible. One thing I would like you to do if you can,I know you are quite busy, is take a look at this User:Pol430/Adoption/Selene Scott and look over the work I did and evaluate it. That will give you a good idea what material I was given and just what exactly I got out of it and where I left off. Thanks to you for this. Just let me know what other info I can provide yo with to help you design my page"Selene Scott (talk) 10:13, 20 August 2012 (UTC)"
I've started a sort of rough sketch at user:rcsprinter123/Sandbox. Please edit it as you would like. However, we are restricted to these fonts so I won't be able to make it nice and gothicy like this, sorry. You may also want to have a look at the Userpage design centre which is very useful. Rcsprinter (converse) @ 10:22, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
Wow, that's all code. I put some details about myself. I like the picture and the name as you have it. "Selene Scott (talk) 13:39, 20 August 2012 (UTC)"

Great. Are you ready for this to be moved to your userpage or is there more stuff you'd like to add? I'd recommend some more userboxes; there is a great choice at WP:Userboxes/Gallery. Rcsprinter (articulate) @ 10:44, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the recent award - a total surprise! Sorry I haven't replied earlier but have been on holiday and just found out. Regards Fishiehelper2 (talk) 18:06, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for your close. I moved the AfD notice, because the page was moved (twice) while the discussion was in progress. Stuartyeates (talk) 22:41, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

Re Bjarne O Page

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Bjarne_O.

I have read the section you recommended but I am completely lost as to what you mean I should do...I have inline citations that are from the British Film Institute, Danmarks Radio the country's largest TV station, a Variety review, etc...

Kindly be more explicit about what I need to do to successfully submit this page...

For one of Bjarne O's films, Eye of the Eagle, one of the references is from imdb...I had been told that imdb was not an acceptable reference and yet there is an accepted Eye of the Eagle page...I included that as an external link instead...

I can see that I have neglected to number the footnote list, and can correct that of course, although I am not sure how to get this effect: ^ following the number.

I have been struggling with this for some time. Please be much more explicit about exactly what my article lacks...

Also I am not sure what the problem with this multi-produced, internationally-awarded writer should have demonstrating noteworthiness, for almost a decade and a half his Sven the Bold TV series was unsurpassed in ratings, for example. I note that one of the actors in Eye of the Eagle has a Wiki page: Bjørn Floberg. He has also had an impressive career and been awarded but I find it difficult to see why his page was acceptable and this one is not.

I am not putting down your authority - I am really trying to understand what you mean.

Kindly explain...

Thank you! Bjarnmar (talk) 15:24, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

For inline citations use <ref></ref> and put {{reflist}} at the bottom. The numbers will appear automatically. Rcsprinter (converse) @ 11:11, 31 August 2012 (UTC)

RfA

Hi Rcsprinter. Good luck with the upcoming week, I hope you do well. You may want to double check your statement and questions for spelling mistakes and other errors (I was picked up on these at my RfA!) Also, make sure you actually answer all parts of questions asked... there's nothing wrong with long answers! Again, good luck. WormTT(talk) 09:18, 31 August 2012 (UTC)

Any mistakes would be due to typing it on an iPad in bed. Thanks for the luck, I'll try to answer all questions best I can. Rcsprinter (lecture) @ 09:21, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
Oh, got an iPad now have we?  Adam Mugliston  Talk  09:28, 31 August 2012 (UTC)

Deletion discussion

The result of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Island province was keep? There were three opinions (including mine as nom), and one was quite misguided. I can see how that would be no consensus, but I don't understand how it could be seen as keep. In what way did the keep 'side' use arguments more in line with wikipedia policy and guidelines? WikiCup 2012 August newsletter

The final is upon us! We are down to our final 8. A massive 573 was our lowest qualifying score; this is higher than the 150 points needed last year and the 430 needed in 2010. Even in 2009, when points were acquired for mainspace edit count in addition to audited content, 417 points secured a place. That leaves this year's WikiCup, by one measure at least, our most competitive ever. Our finalists, ordered by round 4 score, are:

  1. Conradh na Gaeilge Grapple X (submissions) once again finishes the round in first place, leading Pool B. Grapple X writes articles about television, and especially The X-Files and Millenium, with good articles making up the bulk of the score.
  2. Wisconsin Miyagawa (submissions) led Pool A this round. Fourth-place finalist last year, Miyagawa writes on a variety of topics, and has reached the final primarily off the back of his massive number of did you knows.
  3. Minnesota Ruby2010 (submissions) was second in Pool B. Ruby2010 writes primarily on television and film, and scores primarily from good articles.
  4. Scotland Casliber (submissions) finished third in Pool B. Casliber is something of a WikiCup veteran, having finished sixth in 2011 and fourth in 2010. Casliber writes on the natural sciences, including ornithology, botany and astronomy. Over half of Casliber's points this round were bonus points from the high-importance articles he has worked on.
  5. Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) came second in Pool A. Also writing on biology, especially marine biology, Cwmhiraeth received 390 points for one featured article (Bivalvia) and one good article (pelican), topping up with a large number of did you knows.
  6. New York City Muboshgu (submissions) was third in Pool A. Muboshgu writes primarily on baseball, and this round saw Muboshgu's first featured article, Derek Jeter, promoted on its fourth attempt at FAC.
  7. Michigan Dana Boomer (submissions) was fourth in Pool A. She writes on a variety of topics, including horses, but this round also saw the high-importance lettuce reach featured article status.
  8. Canada Sasata (submissions) is another WikiCup veteran, having been a finalist in 2009 and 2010. He writes mostly on mycology.

However, we must also say goodbye to the eight who did not make the final, having fallen at the last hurdle: Russia GreatOrangePumpkin (submissions), England Ealdgyth (submissions), England Calvin999 (submissions), Poland Piotrus (submissions), North Carolina Toa Nidhiki05 (submissions), Florida 12george1 (submissions), Cherokee Nation The Bushranger (submissions) and North Macedonia 1111tomica (submissions). We hope to see you all next year.

On the subject of next year, a discussion has been opened here. Come and have your say about the competition, and how you'd like it to run in the future. This brainstorming will go on for some time before more focused discussions/polls are opened. As ever, if you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Rfa

Hi Rcsprinter. I closed your RFA early as it looked unlikely to pass. Keep your chin up :-) If you'd like me to reopen it please let me know. Regards, Steven Zhang Help resolve disputes! 01:02, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on The Snottle requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
