- Sasha, see WP:RS -- a site with significant mistranslations that uses a corrupt 1840 edition as its basis does not meet the criteria for being a reliable source. I found errors in all of the languages, including Russian (which (the finding of errors) is pretty bad as I'm hardly competant in Russian and if I can notice errors, they must be egregious). Additionally, I don't really have the time to do the translations for Spanish, Portuguese, German and Italian (languages in which I am quite competant) myself so you might want to do some searching on the net for better translations. One other point: stay away from Babelfish for translations, it is quite horrid. •Jim62sch• 10:23, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
Your Site
Sasha, I think it is very admirable that you are trying to provide translations of the quatrains in other languages; it is a very difficult task (as I suppose you've discovered) and will require much perserverance on your part. However, getting good prose translations is rather difficult as the French in which Nostradamus wrote is one step removed from modern French, and thus requires special knowledge (even in France, most people cannot accurately read Nosty's original text, and rely on a modern French version -- much the same as occurs in Italy with Dante's Divine Comedy!). Getting verse translations is even more difficult!
One problem, though, is that it takes time to do the translations properly, and finding people who have both the requisite knowledge of middle French as well as proficiency in the target language, plus who have the time to devote to the process is very difficult. As I can fit it in, I'll try to help, but I can't promise that I can spend large blocks of time on this.
One other note, any idea why the Russian version begins "Я", or why "один" (which I assume means alone rather than one) is even there? Just curious -- as I told you, I can manage to fight my way through Russian (it is a difficult language), but I know that you are fluent in it. Cheers. •Jim62sch• 09:59, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
Orphaned fair use image (Image:PlasticsWiki.png)
Thanks for uploading Image:PlasticsWiki.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Non-free use disputed for Image:Mts logo new.gif
This file may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading Image:Mts logo new.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 23:16, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Category:Nations belonging to haplogroup R1a (Y-DNA) nominated for deletion

No content in Category:Nations belonged to haplogroup G (Y-DNA)
Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Nations belonged to haplogroup G (Y-DNA), by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Nations belonged to haplogroup G (Y-DNA) has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Nations belonged to haplogroup G (Y-DNA), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Hi, Sasha. That table you created is an interesting material certainly. Nevertheless:
- It should be called something more precise like "Y-DNA haplogroups by European (or Euromediterranean, as Algerians are included) ethnic groups".
- It should have an article structure, at least an introductory paragraph.
- The introductory pragraph should caution that different studies might yield somewhat different results (due to sampling uncertainty or whatever).
- It may be interesting to edit spaces with "-" data and rewrite them as "0" (zero) so the columns get properly sorted.
- N (sample size) is surely better as n, so as not to confuse with haplogroup N.
Otherwise I believe it's a very good material (at least on first sight). --Sugaar (talk) 02:29, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- I just noticed that the self-sorting columns do not work properly: 9.0 is listed over 89.0 and so on. That glitch should be fixed - though I have not the slightest idea on how to do that. --Sugaar (talk) 02:35, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- Be bold. Sasha l (talk) 02:51, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- Sure, don't worry (as soon as I have time). But as you have been creating those templates (I've found already others), you may prefer to deal with it yourself. Also it's the first time I deal with self-sorting tables but I think the problem may be related to you using a generic class instead of a numerical sorting template. It definitively seems to sort columns by alphabetic and not numeric order and that's quite useless. --Sugaar (talk) 03:57, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- Be bold. Sasha l (talk) 02:51, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
Please don't spam dozens of articles including Y-chromosomal Adam and Mitochondrial Eve with links to this table. The table is nice, but it should only be linked by relevant articles. The Y-Adam article already links to Human Y-chromosome DNA haplogroup which is appropriate. From that article one can find this table. The Mt-Eve page should not link to a table listing Y-DNA haplogroups. I am going through your user contribution page and reverting changes to article I believe is not directly relevant to this table. WikiProject Human Genetic History draft and vote
I created a draft version of WikiProject Human Genetic History; feel free to go to it and flesh it out. Also, given that there has been some comments about starting a task force inside of an existing WikiProject vs. a full-blown project, I've started an informal poll on the WikiProject proposal page. – Swid (talk · edits) 00:28, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
WP:HGH Sources
Nice work gathering together useful sources for WP:HGH!
You might find this a useful resource, for automatically coverting to templated cites, from PMID numbers. Jheald (talk) 23:21, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
Since the new YCC nomenclature this template needs to be updated, I tried to bring it up to date, but I do not have the knowledge of how to make it more thorough. I added what I thought should be included at Template talk:Y-DNA I. Nagelfar (talk) 09:34, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Adam
Hi Sascha, I think you moved Adam to Adam (disambiguation). This was undoing a move that was discussed at Talk:Adam. For page moves that are potentially controversial, you need to follow the procedure explained at WP:RM. I hope you don't mind, I put Adam (disambiguation) back at Adam, in the meantime. {{shortcut}}
Some of us have been trying to clean the maintenance category CAT:SHORTFIX. Because your private page Sasha l/gt uses the template shortcut it appears in that category. The reason being that the redirects that are used as parameters to the shortcut do not exist yet. I would suggest that you do one of three things:
- temporarily comment out the template.
- create the redirect pages required.
- delete the template altogether.
If you would like me to create the redirects for you just drop me a note. --DRoll (talk) 12:10, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
J1 template-Map
J1 actually diminishes in North Africa, its high in the Arabian Peninsula & Dagestan but it becomes less frequent in North Africa.
The other maps look impressive, I know thats alot of hardword not sure what program you are using. The only thing is that North Africa is more E1b1b & the Near East is more J. J1 concentrates in the mountains of South Arabia, among bedouins & Cohanim Jews in Addition to the Northern neolithic J1 group in Dagestan. North Africa is more E1b1b less J.
Cadenas2008 (talk) 15:45, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you notising this. I'll be an update of this maps soon and i'll fix all the mistakes. Sasha l (talk) 13:45, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
R1a edits
Hi. Regarding [this edit], I was also recently cleaning up those R1a cites this week, and did not finish. I notice you deleted them all, but you might not have noticed the problem that they were not all yet incorporated into the refs, but some of them are essential to checking the table. So I think that you'll need to reinsert some of them. Perhaps you can jump directly to what I think needs to be done eventually, which is to move them into the table itself, but then they first need to be in the refs list for the whole article. --Andrew Lancaster (talk) 07:35, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Y-DNA haplogroups by ethnic groups
An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Y-DNA haplogroups by ethnic groups. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Y-DNA haplogroups by ethnic groups. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.
Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:08, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
Wikipedia Stories Project
Hi!
My name is Victor and I'm a storyteller with the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organization that supports Wikipedia. I'm chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community around the world, including those from readers, editors, and donors. Stories are absolutely essential for any non-profit to persuade people to support the cause, and we know the vast network of people who make and use Wikipedia have so much to share.
I'm scouring user pages looking for inspiring, motivating and interesting stories of how Wikipedia has affected the lives of people. I'm asking questions like "How has Wikipedia changed your life?", "What's the most interesting story you have about Wikipedia?" and "Has Wikipedia ever surprised you?"
Last year, we used the annual fundraiser as a way to show the world who it is who actually writes Wikipedia. We featured editors from Brazil, Ukraine, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, India, United States and England. This campaign was a huge success, resulting in the most financially successful fundraising campaign ever. It was also a campaign that stayed true to the spirit of Wikipedia, educating the public that this free top-5 website is created by volunteers like you and I.
This year we want to highlight more Russian-language Wikipedia editors, so I am in the process of planning a trip to Russia to interview editors.
If you or someone you know (or have heard about) has been positively affected by Wikipedia, or have something interesting to say about Wikipedia I'd very much like to hear about it!
Please let me know if you're inclined to take part in the Wikipedia Stories Project, or if you know someone else with whom I should speak.
Of course, if you have any questions or concerns, please ask! I will answer as soon as I can. I apologize for any poor translation of this letter, I am using Google-translate. I hope it makes you laugh :)
Thank you for your time,
Victor Grigas

Your account will be renamed
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Sasha l. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Sasha l~enwiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name. If you think you might own all of the accounts with this name and this message is in error, please visit Special:MergeAccount to check and attach all of your accounts to prevent them from being renamed.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
