Ratan Tata

Ratan Naval Tata (born December 28, 1937) is an Indian industrialist, philanthropist, and former chairman of Tata Sons. He led the Tata Group, India’s largest conglomerate, from 1991 to 2012, and briefly returned as interim chairman from October 2016 through February 2017. Ratan Tata is widely recognized for transforming Tata Group into a global entity, with operations in more than 100 countries across six continents. Early Life and Education Ratan Tata was born in Bombay (now Mumbai), India, to Naval Tata and Sooni Tata. He was raised by his grandmother, Lady Navajbai Tata, after his parents separated when he was ten years old. Ratan attended the Campion School in Mumbai and later the Cathedral and John Connon School. He then studied in the United States, obtaining a degree in architecture with a focus on structural engineering from Cornell University in 1962. He later completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School in 1975. Career Ratan Tata joined the Tata Group in 1961, initially working on the shop floor of Tata Steel. Over the years, he held various positions within the group and succeeded J.R.D. Tata as the chairman of Tata Sons in 1991. During his tenure, Tata Group grew significantly through strategic acquisitions and diversification. Notable acquisitions included the purchase of Tetley by Tata Tea in 2000, Corus by Tata Steel in 2007, and Jaguar Land Rover by Tata Motors in 2008. Ratan Tata's leadership was instrumental in Tata Group's evolution into a global brand. Under his vision, Tata also launched the Tata Nano, one of the most affordable cars in the world, aimed at the Indian middle-class market.
