October 2013
Hello. Your recent edit to Romney, West Virginia appears to have added the name of a non-notable entity to a list that normally includes only notable entries. In general, a person or organization added to a list should have a pre-existing article before being added to most lists. If you wish to create such an article, please first confirm that the subject qualifies for a separate, stand-alone article according to Wikipedia's notability guideline. Thank you. i clicked the wrong button when I reverted this; it was not vandalism and I apologize. However the person you wikilinked to was a historical figure from Scotland and the person you described is undoubtedly not notable. Gtwfan52 (talk) 23:26, 20 October 2013 (UTC)
- Andrew Wodrow was an early settler of Romney, and was authorized by an act of the Virginia General Assembly to serve as a trustee for the town. Wodrow was also the first resident Clerk of Court for Hampshire County, and was elected to represent Hampshire County at the Virginia Ratifying Convention. Please read the entire article for Andrew Wodrow before assessing his role in the history of Romney. -- Caponer (talk) 23:33, 20 October 2013 (UTC)

Henry Clay Frick House
hi Caponer, thank you for your message. It's been a while since I have done DYK's, could you please enlighten me what QPQ is and what I need to do in order for the article to clear? Thank you. Gryffindor (talk) 18:28, 11 November 2013 (UTC)
- It's no problem Gryffindor, I definitely understand! The DYK nomination process is always evolving. When you submit at DYK nomination of your own creation, you must review another article. (The rules are here). Once you've completed your review of another article and its hook, you list the article you've reviewed under your own nomination submission. When you've listed the reviewed article under your submission, I can go ahead and clear Henry Clay Frick House for DYK! If you ever nominate an article that was not created or expanded by yourself, you are not required to complete a QPQ review. Please let me know if you have any additional questions! -- Caponer (talk) 18:35, 11 November 2013 (UTC)
- Hi there, I understand now. The rules have changed since the last time I submitted a DYK. I have reviewed one article. Thank you for your help. Gryffindor (talk) 23:32, 11 November 2013 (UTC)

Photo Question
Hey Caponer, I was wondering if you live in or near the Morgantown area. I ask because I am looking for a picture of the outside of the WCLG-AM/FM studios in Morgantown, but it is proving very difficult to find a free version. I was hoping, if you lived in or near Morgantown, you could snap a couple shots for me (for the WCLG articles) while running errands or on the way home from work. - Neutralhomer • Talk • 00:40, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
- Hey Neutralhomer! I totally would but unfortunately I live in D.C. and I don't make it out to West Virginia as often as I'd like, especially the Morgantown area! If you ever need any images in the Eastern Panhandle/D.C. region, I can sometimes swing it, but Motown is a bit out of reach for me! The WCLG articles are looking great though and I continue to enjoy reading your contributions! Best of luck in getting that snapshot! -- Caponer (talk) 02:40, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
- No worries. I'm in between Morgantown and DC (near Winchester), so it is definitely a trek for you. I was able to find someone who is studying at WVU to take a couple pictures, so all is good. The WCLG-FM article is almost completely updated, the WCLG (AM) article is next. It's got alot of OR that I need to source, so that should be fun. I'm glad you enjoy them. Hope all is well there in DC. Take Care...Neutralhomer • Talk • 02:44, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
- Ah cool, I'm from Romney originally, so I know the Winchester area and its environs well! I look forward to seeing the final products for the WCLG articles, sir! -- Caponer (talk) 02:47, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
- I thought you might have been by your user name. Capon Bridge, Capon Springs, Capon Lake, and the different Cacapon names too, they are all in the Romney area, of course. I am hoping to work on the WCLG (AM) article sometime tonight, so check in tomorrow and it should be updated. - Neutralhomer • Talk • 03:00, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
- In case you haven't seen them, I have finished with the WCLG-FM and WCLG (AM) articles. Still waiting on a photo from User:Bitmapped and still trying to find a couple pieces of information, but they are as finished as they can get...for now. :) - Neutralhomer • Talk • 10:13, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

- Thanks, I am waiting on that last image before taking WCLG (AM) to GAN. I think it has a better change of getting GA status. I might throw WCLG-FM in the running just for fun. - Neutralhomer • Talk • 00:45, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

I noticed you did a lot of work on the page of Christian Streit White. He was, indeed, named for his Grandfather, the Rev. Christian Streit. But he was also named for his Great-Great Grandfather, also named Christian Streit, originally Kristiaan Streit. Ref1
The Rev. Streit was the first Lutheran pastor in Winchester, Virginia at what is today, Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winchester.Ref2
Here are the references for these (in template form):

- Hey Neutralhomer! Thank you so incredibly much for the information and references you've provided regarding Reverend Christian Streit and his ancestors. I've been creating and expanding articles for the White family, and still have a ways to go, but it seems they definitely married into many extraordinary families (like the Streits)! Thank you again for these sources--I've added them to by go-to reference list! For a small town, Romney sure has a great many distinguished individuals, as does Winchester. -- Caponer (talk) 13:56, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
NRHP categories
Regarding categories such as Category:National Register of Historic Places listings in Hancock County, West Virginia, please note that the naming convention for sites-per-county doesn't include "listings". This is because the main article is a list, and "listing" is not used to mean "a place that's on the National Register". Please see examples such as the subcategories of Category:National Register of Historic Places in New York by county or Category:National Register of Historic Places in Illinois by county. Nyttend (talk) 02:07, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks Nyttend. As you can see by Category:National Register of Historic Places in Pendleton County, West Virginia and Category:National Register of Historic Places in Pleasants County, West Virginia, the lesson has been learned. Thanks! -- Caponer (talk) 02:13, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot! I'm attempting to get the rest moved, but Armbrust has opposed the request, so we may have to go with forty CFDs :-( Nyttend (talk) 02:21, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
- No, unfortunately your mea culpa is worthless for this kind of thing — once someone else has opposed the request, the creator's opinion is worth no more than anyone else's. I've not checked back, but unless Armbrust has withdrawn his opposition, we'll have to go through with all those CFDs. Lest I be unclear, I'm not trying to say that your input is worthless in my mind; I greatly appreciate your comments. I'm purely saying that the WP:CFDS procedures don't care about your mea culpa. I expect that the CFDs will go through; they have the weight of numbers on their side, the creator's opinion has some additional weight in a CFD, and Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2008 October 18 unambiguously supports the current name format. Nyttend (talk) 03:10, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
- Ah, okay, very good. Normally these things get taken to CFD when someone opposes, so while I didn't expect him to withdraw it, I figured that it would soon be taken over there. In the unexpected chance that he withdrew it, I knew I'd have to wait a few more days before it would be processed; it was simply that I didn't feel like checking in yet because I didn't see how checking in would have any beneficial effect. Nyttend (talk) 03:18, 27 November 2013 (UTC)

Question For Ya
You wouldn't know a website I could find a story from Morgantown, WV in 1969, would ya? I am trying to source WCLG (AM) getting an Associated Press award in '69 for their November '68 coverage of the Farmington Number 9 disaster, but am coming up empty. Hoping that you might be able to help. - Neutralhomer • Talk • 11:41, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
- Hey Neutralhomer! I just saw your message this evening and I did a little digging, and unfortunately I couldn't find digitized archives of the The Dominion News and The Morgantown Weekly Post which were the major local paper in 1968 and 1969! I was surprised the Morgantown Public Library didn't have them digitally available! I'll keep digging in the meantime, and I'll let you know if I find anything! -- Caponer (talk) 01:46, 27 November 2013 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of The Virginia Argus and Hampshire Advertiser
Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article The Virginia Argus and Hampshire Advertiser you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. - Thanks for your note at my talk page. I'm working on the review-- a little slowly, I'm afraid, since I have to do it in parallel with real-world work. We'd get so much more editing done if it weren't for things like that...
- It's an interesting article, and I'm glad that the GA process brought me to it. My impression thus far is that we'll be able to get it up to GA level with a little more work. Thanks for your patience while I'm working on the review; I'll try to get it up as soon as I can. Ammodramus (talk) 06:23, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
- Ammodramus, I was thinking the same thing while I was at work yesterday--if I had every day of the week dedicated to my Wikipedia contributions, I'd have several completed featured articles by now! I definitely understand, and there is certainly no rush. I'm just very grateful that the article is under review, and I appreciate you taking the time for your busy schedule to do so. Thanks again! -- Caponer (talk) 13:22, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
- Looks very good indeed. I've just gone through and made a hatful of changes, mostly cosmetic and none GA-critical; if you opt to revert any or all of them, it won't affect the rating. I think that they make the prose flow a little more smoothly, but none of them corrected an egregious error or was necessary for a sentence to make sense.
- I sympathize with your wanting to hold something back for a Jacob Green article. However, we want to give readers the necessary information without making them chase a see-also link, and I don't think we're there yet. At WP:LINKSTYLE, it's noted that readers might not be able to follow links: if, for instance, they've only got a printed copy of the article.
- Once the Green section has been expanded a bit, I think it's ready for a pass. I'll tempt fate by offering you advance congratulations, and thanks for all the work that you've put into this. Thanks, too, for putting up with my shortcomings as a reviewer. I'll get better with time and practice; you've been very patient with my initial halting efforts. Ammodramus (talk) 21:46, 8 December 2013 (UTC)
- Ammodramus, you've done a stellar job of reviewing this article and providing me with comprehensive guidance like you've been conducting GA reviews forever! I'm working on the final piece as we speak and hope to have it done in the next 24 hours! Thanks again! -- Caponer (talk) 01:50, 9 December 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the kind words, and for the barnstar. I appreciate your forbearance and your open-minded attitude toward my critiques; some editors might have said-- and perhaps not without justification-- that I was displaying excessive pickiness. Should we interact in the future, please don't hesitate to tell me if you think that's the case. Thanks again for making the process so easy for me. Ammodramus (talk) 01:53, 10 December 2013 (UTC)

Hello, this was apparently a broadside from 1845 in the collection of the Library of Virginia. It appears in the book "Root of Secession", pg. 48, by William A. Link. Keep up the good work! Dubyavee (talk) 05:43, 11 December 2013 (UTC)
Wappocomo
Very nice! I'm up to my ears in another GA review right now, so I don't have time to give the expanded article the attention it deserves, but I'm looking forward to reading it in detail when I've got some time.
I'm having a little trouble letting go of my role as reviewer, so I hope you won't mind a few suggestions. First, why not put the Green affair in its chronological position-- that is, before the Civil War? Second, I'd mention the national attention that the affair received in the lead section. As currently written, it reads as though it's chiefly notable as an incident in the life of notable person Faulkner..
I put a map in the infobox, based on the coordinates that were there: like many people who know just a little about the Civil War, I think of WV as having been the non-slaveholding part of VA, so it seems just a little odd to read about slaveowners there. A map that shows how close Romney is to still-Virginia (and makes it clear that it's not way out in the mountains) helps me reconcile that. You might want to look at the coordinates, incidentally: when I checked them on Google Maps, I hit what looked like a patch of trees with no dwellings especially nearby. That doesn't affect the location-in-WV map, of course, but it's good to have accurate coordinates. (I spend a lot of time travelling and photographing NRHP sites along the way, and good coordinates can be critical when I'm trying to find a site.)
Thanks for the heads-up on the expansion; if you're agreeable, I might get back to you with more suggestions once I've had a chance to give it a good thorough reading. Ammodramus (talk) 18:21, 11 December 2013 (UTC)
- Ammodramus, I definitely understand that you're swamped in other GA reviews at this point, so it's no problem! I really trust and value your judgment and I welcome your suggestions, and there is no rush on when you'll be able to take an in-depth look at the article. Thank you for adding the map! I had kept coordinates added into the article from a previous editor, so I've amended the coordinates so that they are now accurate. I'd be definitely agreeable to you getting back with me whenever you're free to give it a thorough reading! Thanks again, sir! -- Caponer (talk) 01:55, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
- Just so you know: I haven't forgotten about this article. My current GAR is hanging fire, and since it has first claim on my Wikiattention, I don't want to take on anything that I can't drop on short notice until it resolves. Once that's settled, I promise that I'll give Wappocomo a good serious looking-over; my watchlist shows that you've been continuing to add to it. Ammodramus (talk) 23:01, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the latest progress report on Isaac Parsons and Wappocomo. My GAR is hanging fire: I suspect that the nominator may be tied up with year-end things, so I'm reluctant to prod him right now. That being the case, I'll go to work on those two articles.
- When I was acting as the GA reviewer on the Virginia Argus, I could suggest major changes but couldn't make them, since that would've made me a major contributor to the article and thus ineligible as a reviewer. That's not the case here. If I see something major that I'd like changed (e.g. the order in which two subjects are handled, or something that I don't think should be included in the article), should I make the change myself, or would you rather I suggest it to you first? I know about WP:BOLD and WP:OWN and all that; nevertheless, I think that a certain amount of deference is owed to someone who's put in a major effort on an article. Nomination of House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg line of succession for deletion
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg line of succession until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. I'm sorry but I tagged this four years ago, and it is still unsourced. That indicates that it is not notable and probably original research. DrKiernan (talk) 20:25, 18 December 2013 (UTC)

Isaac Parsons DYK
I posted a reply at Template:Did you know nominations/Isaac Parsons (Virginia politician). -- Jreferee (talk) 22:16, 21 December 2013 (UTC)
- I DYKticked your request as good to go. The Parson's Ferry portion of the article was interesting and it would be nice to see more information on it (if available) in a Parson's Ferry stand alone article. Looking in recent news sources, I found a ferry across Parson's Channel in Barnston Island (British Columbia), but nothing specific to Parson's Ferry in Virginia. -- Jreferee (talk) 11:30, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
- Jreferee, thank you so incredibly much for taking the time to review my article for DYK--all your hard work is much appreciated. I'll see if I can dig up any local sources for Parson's Ferry for a possible stand alone article in the meantime. Thanks for your guidance and keep up the great work--I enjoyed your recent DYK articles for Steve Cuozzo and Silver City Daily Press. -- Caponer (talk) 13:19, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks. I recall watching a TV show (History Detectives, I think) within the last year that sought to find the exact location for a ferry (I think in Virginia), but am not sure which ferry. I'm glad that you are bring information in old books likely to be seen by few to Wikipedia where many can easily find it. It is nice to know that you enjoyed the articles I wrote. I wrote the Steve Cuozzo Wikipedia biography because he wrote an article entitled "Don't trust anything on Wikipedia" and I liked the irony of Wikipedia having the most thorough and detailed information on him. I usually participate at the Help Desk and get ideas for articles there, which is where I got the idea for the Silver City Daily Press article (a family member of the newspaper owner posted a request at the help desk). Some one posted at the help desk that Alaska had no law school and they claimed that they just created the first one.[1] From that, I discovered and wrote Alaska Common Law School (there was a law school in Alaska, just not an accredited law school, contrary to what most source state) and then wrote Legal education in Alaska (and discovered that there is no law school in Alaska because of an influential 1975 report. I also could not verify the new law school listed at the help desk). -- Jreferee (talk) 13:45, 22 December 2013 (UTC)

I'll do my best at doing a decent review (an old pro, User:Dr. Blofeld, has agreed to show me the ropes). But do trout me if something seems amiss! :) --Rosiestep (talk) 20:36, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
- Rosiestep, here's wishing you a most Happy 2014, too! I've come to highly value the guidance from and contributions of User talk:Ammodramus, as he conducted a thorough Good Article review for my article Virginia Argus and Hampshire Advertiser. I've enjoyed and reviewed many of yours and Dr. Blofeld's articles for "Did you know?", and so I am absolutely elated to see that you have selected Wappocomo for GA review. Between your expertise, and the expertise of Ammodramus and Dr. Blofeld, I must say this article couldn't be in more experienced or more knowledgable hands.
