Wikipedia talk:Footnote2
Hi, I'm the one that wrote the patch to autogenerate footnotes bug 192. It seems that I was not clear in describing how my implemenation works, so let me try again.
The wikitext looks like this:
Jimmy Stewart is a Martian[footnote:my best friend told me]. James Dean was his lover.[footnote:I believe so.]
The output looks like this
Jimmy Stewart is a Martion1. James Dean was his lover.2
Notes
1. my best friend told me
2. I believe so.
With the code I wrote, the 1 and 2 are links to the 1. and 2. in the notes section, and when you hover above them the text of the note appears. The ==Notes== section appears automatically when footnotes are present. Numbering is automatic.
I'm sure the patch I wrote can be improved upon, but I'm willing to do more work on it. If you can convince a gatekeeper to the code that footnotes would be a good idea, I'll help out. Lunchboxhero 03:35, Dec 23, 2004 (UTC)
Single footnote template
Instead of {{f1}}, {{f1b}}, {{f2}}, {{f2b}}, etc. (which might need generating more templates if the existing no. wasn't enough for some article), we could use instead something like {{fn|1}}, {{fnb|1}}, which is flexible with respect to the no. of footnotes as well as the characters to be used (e.g. we could use * or † too). -- Paddu 11:53, 25 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- This has been proposed earlier by User:Sgeo in Wikipedia talk:Footnotes#Templates. -- Paddu 12:16, 25 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Thank you ...
Literature References in Genetic Code article
I have an autonumbering footnote proposal up at Wikipedia:Footnote3. The article its self serves as a demo. What do you think? Mozzerati 21:52, 2005 Feb 19 (UTC)

Footnote 2 - can you allow for multiple styles?
Creating an easy to use method of referencing is critical for medical pages. Wikipedia:Footnotes is very tedious. I used the {{fn|1}} method from Wikipedia:Footnote2 in the article [Upper_gastrointestinal_bleeding]. I find this to be the Wiki best footnoting system I have used as it
- allows aggregation of references at the end for easy maintenance
- allows for multiple references of a source
One question. This method displays a bullet followed by "Note". Is there a way to suppress this and only display the reference number as done by ref/note style in Wikipedia:Footnote3?
