Andrew Kosove is the co-founder/co-CEO of Alcon Entertainment, which is one of the entertainment industry’s leading independent studios. Alcon creates content across multiple platforms, including film, television, and music. Kosove has produced 36 feature films, in addition to multiple tv shows. Alcon’s movies have grossed approximately $3 billion in worldwide box office. Kosove has been nominated for an Emmy Award on the documentary entitled, Sinatra: All or Nothing at All .,[1] and an Academy award for the feature The Blind Side.[2] He won a Grammy award for the documentary The Defiant Ones.

Early life

Kosove was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. Both of his parents were in academia and taught at the University of Pennsylvania. His father was also a lawyer and successful businessman.[3] Kosove went to Cheltenham high school. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Princeton University where he majored in political economy.[4]

Career

Kosove and his partner Broderick Johnson wrote the business plan for Alcon in 1995 and the company was formed two years later with the financial backing of Frederick W. Smith, the founder and chairman of FedEx.[5][4][6] Kosove and Johnson envisioned a truly independent film company that would finance films without capital from the major studios but would release its films via an ongoing studio distribution arrangement.[7] They believed that such a structure would allow Alcon to become both a streamlined, non-bureaucratic hub for filmmakers looking for an artistic friendly environment, and a profitable business enterprise that would be able to maximize the commercial potential and revenues on each of its films.[4][6][8][9]

Kosove and Johnson’s business plan has proven prescient as Alcon, now almost 30 years old, has generated over $3.5B in revenue and is one of the industry’s most enduring independent media companies. After its start in films, Alcon expanded into television, where it produced the hit show, The Expanse, as well as the award-winning documentaries Sinatra: All or Nothing At All[1] and The Defiant Ones.

In 2014, Alcon formed a joint music venture called Alcon Sleeping Giant[10] which today owns over 12,000 songs and has won multiple awards for its work.

Kosove, as co-CEO of Alcon, has been instrumental in the early careers of filmmakers such as Christopher Nolan and Denis Villeneuve, who both directed their first studio distributed films for Alcon. Insomnia being the first studio distributed film for director Christopher Nolan, and Prisoners from and Denis Villeneuve.[11]

Kosove has also produced The Blind Side, The Book of Eli, P.S. I Love You, and Dude, Where's My Car? among many other films.

Endurance athlete

In addition to his career in the entertainment industry, Kosove is an accomplished marathon runner and triathlete. Kosove has raced in numerous marathons and qualified for the Boston Marathon in 2009. He finished third in the Ironman Executive Challenge at Ironman Coeur d’Alene in 2010. He competed and finished the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii in 2012. In total, Kosove has raced in over 50 triathlons and marathons.[12]

Personal life

Kosove lives in Los Angeles and is married to producer Kira Davis.[13] They have two children together.[13]
