DescriptionPictish Symbol Stones designs - V Rod & Crescent Selection.png
English: Around 90 examples of the so-called V Rod & Crescent design can be seen on Pictish Standing Stones (around 1200 to 1500 years old) in situ in NE Scotland or in (mainly) Scottish museums. It is the most numerous of these Pictish designs following a general pattern of two lines at broadly right angles coming to a point (like a "V") each line often with an arrow shape (as if directional). This "V" overlays a crescent shape with the "hollow" part lower (except in one instance). None is oriented the same as a crescent moon.
