Notes Philippe de Champaigne was a Baroque era painter of the French school, who was born in a poor family. He was supervised in his early career by Nicolas Duchesne, a French painter and patron of the French royal court. Phillippe de Champaigne would later marry Nicholas' daughter, Charlotte Duchesne.
