Description
English: Coat of Arms of attributed to Sir Franke Van Hale, KG, as they appear on his garter stall plate in St. George's chapel -- gules a wyvern with nowed tail or crowned argent having a shield, gules a two-headed eagle displayed argent, about its neck, all within a bordure azure with lions and fleur-de-lis or. However, the actual arms of Sir Frank van Hale, as shown on his seal, were gules a lion rampant or, crowned azure. According to G. F. Belz, author of Memorials of the Order of the Garter, the stall plate was part of an elaborate invention by Edward Hall, the chronicler (d. 1547) who invented a fictitious pedigree wherein Sir Frank van Hale appears as the ancestor of the Halls of Northall, co. Salop. The van Hale plate still in place in the twelfth stall on the Sovereign's side is believed to date from the era of King Henry VIII.
Sir Frank Van Hale, K.G. c. 1359-1375… Gules a wyvern with nowed tail gold crowned silver having a shield gules a two-headed eagle silver about his neck, all within a bordure azure with lions and fleurs-de-lis gold.
