Image size concerns
[edit]The low quality of the image means that reduction in size substantially reduces recognition by viewers as well as limiting the display resolutions at which it can be recognized, a particular issue to those with poor visual acuity. At thumbnail resolution, the resolution displayed inline to articles and recommended for reduction, no individuals or words are unrecognizable. At its full resolution individuals and words are recognizable, fully capturing a single demonstrative moment, but at a low quality which does not interfere with commercial usage. - The file information page allows you to view 229,760 pixels, yet only 27,060 (about 12%) are used in the articles. What purpose do the additional 88% of the pixels serve? The purpose is to display the file in articles, not to display the file on the file information page. --Stefan2 (talk) 17:46, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
- At what resolution are you getting the 27,060 count? Regardless, there will always be some overage, and it serves the same as any other blue link; more information if needed. The purpose may be to view the files in articles but unlike a print document a single individual page is not the sole, or even recommended, method of getting information. If minimum required information were the rule Wikipedia wouldn't encourage a half dozen scales of image to be produced for free images. Granting that this is not a free image, the additional 88% does not bring the quality of the image up to the level of competing with any commercial use nor do anything more than make the various aspects of the image more recognizable.
