Garešnica is a town in Bjelovar-Bilogora County, Croatia. It is located in the geographical region of Moslavina. There are a total of 10,472 inhabitants, of whom 85% are Croats.[3]

Garešnica is located in central Croatia at the foot of Moslavačka gora mountain, 17 km (10.56 mi) northeast of Kutina, on the crossroad of D45 (Kutina – Veliki Zdenci) and D26 (VrbovecDaruvar) state roads. It was first mentioned in 1527. The church Visitation of Our Lady was built in 1752 and has still a lot of original inventory.[4]

The town is home to a memorial to its deceased defenders from the Croatian War of Independence.[5]

Minority councils and representatives

Directly elected minority councils and representatives are tasked with consulting tasks for the local or regional authorities in which they are advocating for minority rights and interests, integration into public life and participation in the management of local affairs.[7] At the 2023 Croatian national minorities councils and representatives elections Serbs of Croatia fulfilled legal requirements to elect 15 members minority council of the Town of Garešnica while Czechs elected individual representative.[8]

History

In the late 19th and early 20th century, Garešnica was a district capital in the Bjelovar-Križevci County of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
