La Luna Sangre (The Blood Moon) is a 2017 Philippine horror-fantasy drama television series. Directed by Richard Arellano, Rory Quintos and Mae Cruz-Alviar, it starred Kathryn Bernardo, Daniel Padilla, Richard Gutierrez, and Angel Locsin. It is the third installment of Lobo and the sequel to Imortal. The series premiered on ABS-CBN's Primetime Bida evening block and worldwide on The Filipino Channel on June 19, 2017, replacing My Dear Heart. </p>
Synopsis
<p align="justify">The series revolves around the prophecy called “la luna sangre”, which says that the daughter of the most powerful vampire and the chosen wolf will end the evil of the vampire marked with the cursed ink.<br><br>
Following the events from Imortal, Mateo (John Lloyd Cruz) and Lia (Angel Locsin) are now living their simple lives as mortals in the corn fields of San Isidro along with their 7-year-old mortal daughter. They lost their powers and became mortals when they revived their stillborn infant daughter, Malia (Kathryn Bernardo). The head guardian of La Liga Unida or (LLU), Frederick Arguelles (Victor Neri) had just returned from the corn festival to report that Mateo and Lia were officially ordinary mortals without any powers, and no longer plan to resume their leadership of LLU.<br><br>
Sandrino (Richard Gutierrez), the king of vampires and also known as the Supremo, heard about the prophecy and ordered all his forces to hunt and kill Mateo, Lia and their daughter Malia to prevent the prophecy's fulfillment and ensure his ascendancy into power.<br><br>
To protect Malia, LLU mobilized their forces to relocate them from San Isidro to Borneo. Before they could transport them safely, they were betrayed by Veruska (Ina Raymundo), a werewolf and wife of Frederick Arguelles, who pointed their location to the Supremo in exchange for safety of the remaining werewolves. A major battle ensued between the forces of LLU and the Supremo's vampire allies. In the end, Supremo won the battle killing Mateo and Lia. He didn't know that the child he killed in Lia's arms was not the real Malia. In fact, the real Malia was carried off by Baristo (Joross Gamboa), a werewolf, to a secret LLU base in Tanay, Rizal. <br><br>
Malia is left an orphan under the care of other vampires and werewolves. For 14 years, she lived in the secret camp with the LLU community. She was reared on martial arts and special battle defense training like the rest of the residents. Even early on, she exhibited unusual nimble abilities, very promising for the 'new chosen one'. Everyone pinned their hopes on Malia, destined to save the vampires and werewolves from the tyranny of the Supremo. However, when she failed to manifest her supernatural powers when she turned 21 years old, many community members became skeptical.<br><br>
Disillusioned, Malia left camp temporarily to face the world of mortals, vowing to find her real self and harness her powers to defeat the Supremo. Soon, Sandrino located the new LLU's secret camp location and decimated most of its members, including the head guardian, leaving only a handful of what was once a powerful and formidable organization. Though the remnants were scattered after the battle, they eventually find each other in Manila and together with Malia try to pick up the pieces of their group. In Manila, Malia meets Tristan (Daniel Padilla), a young man on a mission to avenge his father's death in the hands of vampires. Tristan joins up with a youth vigilante group called Moonchasers, whose agenda is to kill vampires and protect Supremo’s targeted victims.<br><br>
It is at this time that the first part of the prophecy begins to unfold. Tristan’s and Malia’s fates are linked. Jethro Kabigting (Dino Imperial) compares the “spark” or electric current Malia and Tristan felt when they linked hands to Mateo and Lia’s spark in Imortal. Not fully understanding the impact of their relationship, Malia believes she can protect Tristan.<br><br>
Samantha (Maricar Reyes-Poon), Magnus’ daughter who turned her back on her father and chose to ally with Mateo and Lia returns to help the Moonchasers battle Supremo. With the help of two seers, Madame Star (Mel Kimura) and Jethro, she investigates the connection between Tristan and Malia and their significance to the prophecy. Jethro sees Tristan dead, and Madane Star sees Tristan as a vampire. Despite Moonchasers and LLU’s shared goals, Samantha is adamant they can’t have a connection. Meanwhile, Samantha learns from Barang, Magnus’ loyal seer, that Sandrino is her brother but refuses to be his ally.<br><br>
After being fired by Gilbert (Richard Gutierrez) from his campaign team, Jacintha (Angel Locsin) investigated Gilbert, discovered his real name is Sandrino Villalobo, his mother’s suicide and Barang, the vampire seer who raised him. She is bothered by all this information but decides to help Gilbert with his campaign just the same. She rebranded his image, prepared him for his campaign, and almost succeeded if not for an unfortunate but contrived tragedy during the rally that took Senator Paglinawan’s life and unexpectedly, yet critically wounded the Supremo. Having fallen in love with Jacintha, the Supremo’s heart began to beat again as s mortal man.<br><br>
Tristan and Malia remains unaware of each other's role in the prophecy, and the two become fast friends. As their bond grows closer, so do their shared mission. They both declared their feelings for one another, but conflicts arise as unexplained secrets are uncovered. He is stunned when he discovered Malia’s alliance with the LLU, a group of vampires and werewolves.<br><br>
After the rally, the Supremo was injured and weakened. Taking advantage of his weakness, the LLUs attacked his lair and killed many of his vampire allies. With this discovery, will Tristan still accept her? Will Malia be the key to the justice that Tristan is looking for? Will Malia accomplish her mission to end Sandrino's life? How will the prophecy affect the budding romance between Malia and Tristan. Her parents were destined to be mortal enemies, but their love for each other changed it. Will Malia and Tristan experience the same success or will they fail?

List of La Luna Sangre characters
Malia Ortega Rodriguez
<p align="justify">
Characterized by Kathryn Bernardo (adult) and Erika Clemente (child). The main female protagonist of the series. She is known from Jethro's prophecy as the new chosen one, who will triumph over all evil vampires under the reign of a vampire born with a mark of the "cursed ink" before the night of the "la luna sangre". She is the hybrid offspring of Mateo and Lia, a vampire and a werewolf. When her parents died, she began living with the La Liga Unida (or LLU) community, under the care of Baristo, Lydia, and Catleya. Fourteen years later, she failed to transform as a werewolf or a vampire during her 21th birthday. During the LLU massacre, she failed to kill Sandrino. She was saved by Gael and escaped the massacre. After the massacre, she lived in Manila and took on dual identities as Emilio "Miyo" D. Alcantara (male) and Toni (female) as part of her plans to overthrow Supremo. She was shot multiple times in the bottom of the gorge by three policemen who were under Supremo's hypnotic control. She died, but was resurrected by the supernatural power of the full moon. Police authorities found her bloody clothes, and assumed she was killed. Her full powers have not yet manifested, but since her resurrection, it was determined that she has both vampire and werewolf powers. She has the ability to heal her wounds, and vampire and werewolf venoms do not affect her. She has super hearing, with the ability to listen in on conversations and like Supremo, can hear heartbeats so she can recognize vampires among humans. Lately, it appears she has mind control powers.She still cannot run as fast as vampires do, nor can her hands burn vampires as her mother was able to do, nor can she shift her skin into a wolf, but her full powers are expected to manifest later, as she is considered a late bloomer like her great great grandfather (Lorenzo Blancaflor), great-grandmother (Vanessa B. Raymundo), grandmother (Lyka R. Ortega) and mother (Lia O. Rodriguez) before her whose powers manifested much later.</p>
Tristan Toralba
<p align="justify">
Characterized by Daniel Padilla (adult) and Justin James Quilantang (child). The main male protagonist of the series. He is Tonio and Rica's mortal son. When Tristan was seven years old, vampires killed his father but nobody believed him. At Tonio's burial, his aunts, Rica's sisters, took him to live with them in Manila. As an adult, he worked as a jeepney driver and mechanic in Four Sison Repair Shop to reduce his father's debt. His keen interest in vampires and desire to avenge his father’s death led him to join the Moonchasers. He has an aggressive and stubborn personality. His mentor, Prof. T, described him as a warrior, "special, but difficult to control". On the other hand, Moonchasers' founder, Samantha Imperial will do everything to keep and protect him since she believes he plays a major role with Malia in Jethro’s prophecy. Jethro saw Tristan as a child linking hands with Malia under the giant full moon. This vision manifested 21 years ago, when Jethro met Tonio and Rica and laid his hand on Rica's pregnant belly. Madam Star is afraid of Tristan. She used to see him in her dreams before she actually met him. In her dreams, he was walking down a dark alley very similar to where they lived, with glowing red eyes like a vampire. The Moonchasers faked his death to protect him after he became Supremo’s target. It was finally revealed that he is the son of Sandrino to Jacintha which made Tristan and Malia a formidable rival as Samantha foreseen.</p>
Sandrino Villalobo
<p align="justify">
Characterized by Richard Gutierrez (adult) and Zyren Leigh Luansing (child). The main antagonist of the series. He is the founder of SMV Corporation. His aim is to provide a perfect world for vampires and keep mortals as the vampires’ main food source. He plans to dominate the Philippines and the world. He is the king of vampires, referred to as "Supremo". His powers are more advanced than ordinary vampires. Aside from his incredible strength, he can harness kinetic energy to move objects and people, mass hypnotize mortals to control their minds, and create illusionary images of himself to fool his prey. He is the long lost son of Magnus, and Samantha's adoptive brother. His mortal mother, Maria, was one of the many women raped by Magnus in his efforts to sire the “Chosen Ones”, his offspring who would save the vampire race according to Barang's prophecy. He lived with his mortal mother Maria Villalobo, who imprisoned him as a child due to his violent blood thirsty acts. He eventually killed her. Sandrino was subsequently raised by Magnus’ loyal seer, the vampire Barang. He is the “vampire marked with the cursed ink”, whose downfall was prophesied to happen by the hand of the new chosen one. His determination to prevent the prophecy's fulfillment drove him to pursue and destroy Malia, her family, and LLU community. However, the prophecy changed a decade later when Jethro saw a new vision that the Supremo did not die. The Supremo, working under his identity as Gilbert Imperial, Youtopia's founder and CEO, plans to run for the highest position in the country as President of the Philippines, and has engaged Jacintha Magsaysay to serve him as his lead political strategist for the campaign. Fallng in love with his strategist awakened his heart, weakened his powers.</p>
Jacintha Magsaysay
<p align="justify">
Characterized by Angel Locsin. Her parents are Elmer and Flor. She appears to be Lia Ortega-Rodriguez' Doppelgänger, a Filipino expat living in Indonesia as a retainer of the President of Indonesia. Gilbert Imperial flew to Jakarta, Indonesia to hire her as his Political Strategist to aid him in his campaign for President of the Philippines. Shocked by her identical similarity to his enemy, Lia Ortega-Rodriguez, he was initially suspicious of the nature of her person and suspected she was Lia. She was constantly being tested by Gilbert. Researching Jacintha's background, he learned that Jacintha was born in Negros Oriental. And though she spent all her high school and college years in Dumaguete, her parents lived in Manila. It was in Dumaguete when her former university professor Bill Mejia, owner of the leading Public Relations firm in the country, recruited her to join them. Her first client was the current president of Indonesia, who credits her for leading his campaign strategy and winning the presidency for him, despite a major scandal. After a rough start in their relationship, she joined Gilbert to lead his campaign, but not until after she investigated his background and learned that his real name is Sandrino. She participated in a conspiracy to destroy Supremo at the campaign rally but failed. She was revealed as the woman behind the red robes who previously attempted to assassinate Supremo, hinting that she is plotting his overthrow, and she is a hybrid.</p>

Malia Ortega Rodriguez
<p align="justify">
<p align="justify">
<p align="justify">

After a rough start in their relationship, she joined Gilbert to lead his campaign, but not until after she investigated his background and learned that his real name is Sandrino. She participated in a conspiracy to destroy Supremo at the campaign rally but failed. She was revealed as the woman behind the red robes who previously attempted to assassinate Supremo, hinting that she is plotting his overthrow, and she is a hybrid. He turned her into a vampire when she reached 21 years. She was in love with Mateo but he loved Lia. She had a love-hate relationship with Lia until she joined Roman's community with Lydia. They became strong allies and mutually respected each other. She was bitten by Lucas at the last battle against Lucas and Magnus’ forces in Imortal, and committed suicide to prevent herself from turning into a hybrid. She was the only cremated vampire known (and this is probably the reason why she didn’t resurrect as a hybrid). She repeatedly tried to commit suicide but resurrected each time. She stopped trying to kill herself after she realized she had unfinished business in this world.

Malia Ortega Rodriguez
<p align="justify">
Lately, it appears she has mind control powers.She still cannot run as fast as vampires do, nor can her hands burn vampires as her mother was able to do, nor can she shift her skin into a wolf, but her full powers are expected to manifest later, as she is considered a late bloomer like her great great grandfather (Lorenzo Blancaflor), great-grandmother ([[Lobo (TV series)|Vanessa B.
<p align="justify">
Characterized by Richard Gutierrez (adult) and Zyren Leigh Luansing (child). The main antagonist of the series. He is the founder of SMV Corporation. Aside from his incredible strength, he can harness kinetic energy to move objects and people, mass hypnotize mortals to control their minds, and create illusionary images and clone of himself to fool his prey.

She was revealed as the woman behind the red robes who previously attempted to assassinate Supremo, hinting that she is plotting his overthrow, and she is a hybrid. She successfully deceives Tristan and Malia until Renato came to life.</p>

He will later fall in love with Jacintha and it is yet to unfold whether Jacintha will change her ways out of her love for Renato or Renato will turn bad when Jacintha controls him. She met Prof. T and established Moonchasers for the purpose of eliminating Supremo and his vampire allies. She is extremely intelligent, sharp, very proactive and she calculates all her moves. She is careful with Tristan because of his wrong perspectives of vampires, nevertheless, she will do everything to protect and keep him in Moonchasers. She is presently investigating Tristan's origins and herself's immortality. She and Jethro are aware of Tristan’s major role in the prophecy, since he is always alongside Malia, and they were both in Jethro’s and Star’s visions. Despite his objections and mistrust for vampires, Tristan is slowly accepting her leadership of Moonchasers. She has reconnected with Jethro, and is cultivating Madame Star’s skills as a seer as well. She recently reconnected with Barang, her father’s seer, who revealed that Sandrino is her sibling. She refused Sandrino’s offer to ally with him. Gael is sure that she is the red-dressed vampire woman who saved LLU members during their rescue operation of Catleya.
