Subsequently, he became a Special Advisor to the Minister for Energy, a Special Adviser to the Secretary of State for Defence, Chief of Staff to the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and Minister for the Cabinet Office, and then a Senior Special Adviser to the Prime Minister.
