It is adjacent to the [[Tokyo Skytree]] complex.小田原城が初めて築かれたのは、大森氏が小田原地方に進出した15世紀中ごろのことと考えられています。1500年ごろに戦国大名小田原北条氏の居城となってから、関東支配の中心拠点として次第に拡張整備され、豊臣秀吉の来攻に備えて城下を囲む総構を完成させると城の規模は最大に達し、日本最大の中世城郭に発展しました。
江戸時代を迎えると小田原城は徳川家康の支配するところとなり、その家臣大久保氏を城主として迎え、城の規模は三の丸以内に縮小されました。稲葉氏が城主となってから大規模な改修工事が始められ、近世城郭として生まれ変わりました。その後、大久保氏が再び城主となり、箱根を控えた関東地方防御の要衝として、また幕藩体制を支える譜代大名の居城として、幕末まで重要な役割を担ってきました。
しかし、小田原城は明治3年に廃城となり、ほとんどの建物は解体され、残っていた石垣も大正12年(1923)の関東大震災によりことごとく崩れ落ちてしまいました。
現在の小田原城跡は、本丸・二の丸の大部分と総構の一部が、国の史跡に指定されています。また、本丸を中心に「城址公園」として整備され、昭和35年(1960)に天守閣が復興、次いで昭和46年(1971)には常盤木門、平成9年(1997)には銅門、平成21年(2009)には馬出門が復元されました。さらに小田原市では、貴重な文化的遺産である小田原城跡をより一層親しんでいただくとともに、長く後世に伝えていくことを目的として、本格的な史跡整備に取り組んでいます。
平成18年10月に、「日本の歴史公園100選」に選ばれました。

+江戸時代を迎えると小田原城は徳川家康の支配するところとなり、その家臣大久保氏を城主として迎え、城の規模は三の丸以内に縮小されました。稲葉氏が城主となってから大規模な改修工事が始められ、近世城郭として生まれ変わりました。その後、大久保氏が再び城主となり、箱根を控えた関東地方防御の要衝として、また幕藩体制を支える譜代大名の居城として、幕末まで重要な役割を担ってきました。

+しかし、小田原城は明治3年に廃城となり、ほとんどの建物は解体され、残っていた石垣も大正12年(1923)の関東大震災によりことごとく崩れ落ちてしまいました。

+現在の小田原城跡は、本丸・二の丸の大部分と総構の一部が、国の史跡に指定されています。また、本丸を中心に「城址公園」として整備され、昭和35年(1960)に天守閣が復興、次いで昭和46年(1971)には常盤木門、平成9年(1997)には銅門、平成21年(2009)には馬出門が復元されました。さらに小田原市では、貴重な文化的遺産である小田原城跡をより一層親しんでいただくとともに、長く後世に伝えていくことを目的として、本格的な史跡整備に取り組んでいます。
