The word 'Shorya' comes from Sanskrit Shaurya meaning Valour or Courage intending him to be the brave one by his parents, Aditya Singh Mahanot and Pushpa Mahanot. Born in Neemuch, Shorya was a student of Kendriya Vidhyalaya, Neemuch (M.P.), India from standard 1 to standard 6. From standard sixth onwards, he has been homeschooled. == Style and Technique == Since his journey as the World's Youngest Abstract Artist with a Signature Style, Shorya's art has been evolving with every painting. Like Pollock (Jackson Pollock), he spreads his canvas on the floor and begins composing multiple layers of paints. He uses color composition with deliberate consideration to balance the symmetry between his brushstrokes, dripping and pouring on the canvas. His work is recognizable not just from the aspect of his practice that makes his work recognizable. That obviously includes materials and technique, but also less tangible issues such as choice of subject matter and his subjective way of approaching his chosen subject. Each of Shorya’s works takes approximately four to five days to make and contains up to two or more layers of pigments. He works with acrylic paints in a heavy impasto technique. Once the paint has dried, he uses adhesive tapes to further accentuate the contrast between colors used to bring out the harmony of abstraction in his paintings more vividly in his signature style. Art Expo 2013, in a press release stated about Shorya Mahanot’s Art as: "Pollock-like smattering and bold, geometric forms cover the canvases of India's youngest abstract artist." Gautam Benegal, Artist stated to Afternoon D&C, June 21, 2012: “Indeed, it is very intriguing in the way he uses color and form. Shows he has an innate understanding of composition which is pure and unsullied by experience from the real world…" == Art Journey & Inspiration == It all began in early 2011 for Shorya when he sneaked into his sister’s room one day when no one was watching. When he was a child the most interesting spaces in the home for him were his two elder sister’s rooms. Both were artists. Their rooms were always full of paintings, colors, brushes, canvasses and other things he loved. They would never share these things with him. They gave him crayons and paper sheets but he wanted more. He never missed a chance to enter their rooms secretly. Shorya had started creating paintings at the age of three. His paintings came in the public domain at the age of four in a solo exhibition at Chambers Terrace of The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Mumbai, India. In a Silent Auction Donation Breakdown, one of his paintings auctioned and fetched $2000 towards the donation for Autism Speaks in October 2013 at Cipriani Wall Street, NY, U.S.A. Before that, in March 2013, Shorya participated in the annual 35th edition of the art expo, New York, U.S.A. After this, his paintings had been included in a specially curated exhibition at the Ward-Nasse Gallery in Manhattan, New York(NY), the U.S.A. as “Best of Artexpo 2013.” Later, his works were displayed in the Spectrum art show, Miami U.S.A. 2013 where one of his abstract paintings was sold at $3500. In India, many of his paintings have been displayed and sold at Bougainvillaea gallery, Udaipur, Rajasthan since 2013. 2014 November reaffirmed global interest in Shorya's artworks as in the next silent auction donation break down at Autism Speaks - celebrity chef Gala, NY by putting a price of $2000 on his painting. The painting was auctioned and funds were donated to Autism Speaks Foundation. In 2015 Shorya's works were displayed at Holtzman Gallery. His paintings were displayed and sold alongside the works of late actor Anthony Quinn, actor Burt Young and celebrated artist Francis Maseres.  An exhibition with a "Hollywood style" red carpet event defined Shorya as an artist to look out for upcoming years. While his abstract paintings were going around in international art galleries, Shorya was getting the needful media attention. In the year 2015, he was invited for a live demo of his abstract paintings on a program on NDTV as a part of 'support my school telethon'. It was a six-hour live television fundraiser aired across the NDTV network on 29th November 2015. Shorya shared the stage with Saurav Ganguly, Vikram Chandra, Rajkumar Hirani, Ranveer Singh and many others. In 2016, Shorya again presented his abstract art in a live demo. This time, it was for doctors and medical professionals in 'Excellentia' - Events and initiatives by Nestle that happened across metropolitan cities of India, including Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Delhi. In November 2017, Shorya gave a TEDx talk in Noida, India at JSSATE. In his TED talk, he talked about his imagination, his passion, and his approach towards the creation of abstract art. It was in 2017 when he created his first digital abstract art in collaboration with Microsoft for 'Future Decoded' - a Microsoft event graced by more than 1700 global thought leaders that included Satya Nadella (CEO, Microsoft) and Norm Judah (CTO, Microsoft) and the likes. In the year 2018, Shorya was invited by SBS Australia Hindi to talk about his art. In the year 2019, he was shortlisted as the talent to watch out for in SBI YONO 20 under Twenty. == Critical Reception == Shorya Mahanot, with his distinct style (often termed as Signature Style), has drawn the attention of Galleries, Art Critics and Aficionados from all over the world. They have also been appreciative of Shorya's adherence to the technique he employs during the creation of his paintings.  Here are some of the highlights: "The six-year-old artist brings his works and canvases to life though rich and masterful colour use while employing a technique that can be compared to Jackson Pollock's drip painting or action painting." - The Art Guide, 2013 “His art is multilayered, inspired from nature.” “At 10 going on 11, Shorya has created over 100 works in acrylic, some canvases bigger than his tiny frame.” “…His family had never seen art like this before — there were shades of Jackson Pollock…” -  Reader’s Digest, 2018 "Each movement appeared deliberate but exaggerated as if his paintings were an unruly orchestra under his conduction." - The Guardian, 2012 "The most significant aspect of Shorya's paintings is they have a signature unique to Shorya that all great artists across the globe uphold. But he is simply oblivious of the magic that his brush creates." - Hindustan Times, 2013 "...Shorya's brushstrokes have depth and there's beautiful usage of colors." - DNA "We also took with a pinch of salt the declaration of his genius, his brilliance, his earth-shattering ability to handle colors, till we got a glimpse of some of his works." -       Afternoon “…Known for his mind-boggling abstract paintings, the little one is making waves on many art platforms” -       Yahoo! + +== Style and Technique == + + +Since his journey as the World's Youngest Abstract Artist with a Signature Style, Shorya's art has been evolving with every painting. + +Each of Shorya’s works takes approximately four to five days to make and contains up to two or more layers of pigments. He works with acrylic paints in a heavy impasto technique. Once the paint has dried, he uses adhesive tapes to further accentuate the contrast between colors used to bring out the harmony of abstraction in his paintings more vividly in his signature style. + + +Art Expo 2013, in a press release stated about Shorya Mahanot’s Art as: + +"Pollock-like smattering and bold, geometric forms cover the canvases of India's youngest abstract artist." + + +Gautam Benegal, Artist stated to Afternoon D&C, June 21, 2012: + +“Indeed, it is very intriguing in the way he uses color and form. Shows he has an innate understanding of composition which is pure and unsullied by experience from the real world…" + +== Art Journey & Inspiration == + + +It all began in early 2011 for Shorya when he sneaked into his sister’s room one day when no one was watching. + +Shorya had started creating paintings at the age of three. + +In India, many of his paintings have been displayed and sold at Bougainvillaea gallery, Udaipur, Rajasthan since 2013. + +2014 November reaffirmed global interest in Shorya's artworks as in the next silent auction donation break down at Autism Speaks - celebrity chef Gala, NY by putting a price of $2000 on his painting. The painting was auctioned and funds were donated to Autism Speaks Foundation. + +In 2015 Shorya's works were displayed at Holtzman Gallery. His paintings were displayed and sold alongside the works of late actor Anthony Quinn, actor Burt Young and celebrated artist Francis Maseres.  An exhibition with a "Hollywood style" red carpet event defined Shorya as an artist to look out for upcoming years. + +While his abstract paintings were going around in international art galleries, Shorya was getting the needful media attention. + +In 2016, Shorya again presented his abstract art in a live demo. This time, it was for doctors and medical professionals in 'Excellentia' - Events and initiatives by Nestle that happened across metropolitan cities of India, including Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Delhi. + +In November 2017, Shorya gave a TEDx talk in Noida, India at JSSATE. In his TED talk, he talked about his imagination, his passion, and his approach towards the creation of abstract art. + +It was in 2017 when he created his first digital abstract art in collaboration with Microsoft for 'Future Decoded' - a Microsoft event graced by more than 1700 global thought leaders that included Satya Nadella (CEO, Microsoft) and Norm Judah (CTO, Microsoft) and the likes. + +In the year 2018, Shorya was invited by SBS Australia Hindi to talk about his art. + +In the year 2019, he was shortlisted as the talent to watch out for in SBI YONO 20 under Twenty. + +== Critical Reception == +Shorya Mahanot, with his distinct style (often termed as Signature Style), has drawn the attention of Galleries, Art Critics and Aficionados from all over the world. They have also been appreciative of Shorya's adherence to the technique he employs during the creation of his paintings.  Here are some of the highlights: + +"The six-year-old artist brings his works and canvases to life though rich and masterful colour use while employing a technique that can be compared to Jackson Pollock's drip painting or action painting." + +- The Art Guide, 2013 + +“His art is multilayered, inspired from nature.” + +“At 10 going on 11, Shorya has created over 100 works in acrylic, some canvases bigger than his tiny frame.” + +“…His family had never seen art like this before — there were shades of Jackson Pollock…” + +-  Reader’s Digest, 2018 + +"Each movement appeared deliberate but exaggerated as if his paintings were an unruly orchestra under his conduction." + +- The Guardian, 2012 + +"The most significant aspect of Shorya's paintings is they have a signature unique to Shorya that all great artists across the globe uphold.
