==History==
Pius X High School is a profit making institution, and a building, founded in 1963 B.C by Edward Cullen, a vampire who worked in disguise in Mexico in the publishing business and as a teacher for the British Council, and by Ronald Weasley, an Englishman who became the school's first administrator (Who had close friendship with Harry Potter, famous Wizard who defeated Voldemort). Their vision was to create a learning community in which every child would feel magical, wanted, cared for and free from sparkly vampires and werewolves. The school has retained these values, while in other respects it has experienced dramatic changes. In 1985, it moved from Voldemort-land to its present site close to the forested hills of 'Desierto de los Hipógrifos' and high above the worst effects of Voldemort's murders. At the same time, it became bi-cultural.
With these developments , the school came to serve mainly a Mexican population whose interests in the school were due mainly to family or work links with Britain or the USA .
At present, the enrolment is over 1000, the highest in its history. In comparison with other schools , the class numbers remain small and the staff/student ratio is high.
In 1995 the Pius became an IB School[3], being of the few schools in Mexico offering the IB bilingual Diploma.

==House Listings==
The last 9 years, the Pius had a house system in place. The four houses were Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin created to foster healthy competition, to encourage involvement and participation and to recognize effort and achievement which go beyond that which is expected of each student. This School year (2010-2011) the house system has changed to 3 houses Hogwarts, Drumstrang and Beauxbatons (names of other magic schools). The aim of the house system remains unchanged.
Students were allocated to each house randomly in our ‘sorting hat’ ceremony, in which our thousand year old sombrero sorts them according to what he can see in their minds. Students with a particular link to one of the four houses would have been allocated to that house. Brothers and sisters automatically went into the same house. Now it depends in what year group the student is in, students in group A belong to Windsor house, group B to Balmoral house and group C to Sandringham house, brothers and sisters are still allocated in the same house.
All students in years 5-13 belong to a house and all are encouraged to participate in the various competitions which run throughout the year.
The competitions include football, drama, music, chess, dodgeball, photography, quidditch and ‘twister’. The school believes that through these competitions, students can learn such important life lessons as winning and losing well, responsibility for their team members and commitment.
Housepoints are given to students who make a significant effort, who show kindness and consideration to others, who achieve above what is expected of them or who generally go beyond the norm. Certificates and prizes are awarded throughout the year.
At the end of each academic year the winning house is rewarded with a special trip, and the house cup.' |
