He made more than 500 appearances in the [[Premier League]] and [[English Football League|Football League]], which included 212 for [[Middlesbrough F.C.|Middlesbrough]], 180 for [[Sunderland A.F.C.|Sunderland]] and 116 for [[Ipswich Town F.C.|Ipswich Town]].
