It is situated in the heart of the state. Barnala is well known for textiles. ==History & Famous People== Barnala was named after Baba Ala Singh.Baba Ala Singh left Bhadaur with his elder brother(hometown of Patiala State)and settled at Barnala and conquered many areas with the help of his brothers the Bhadaur Sardars. Though it was a district headquarters in erstwhile princely state system, it was later merged in PEPSU (Patiala & East Punjab States Union) and degraded as sub divisional headquarter. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Surrounded by hundreds of small and big villages Barnala is a trade hub for all, there are many growing businesses in this city. Mainly cloth, Jewellrey, Property, Tires, Automobile batteries, Tractor and Truck workshops, Agricultural tools etc. The core economy of this city is agriculture based. '''Barnala''' has certain streets which are improving at a very fast pace - mainly they are Sadar Bazar, Pharwahi Bazar, Handiaya Bazar which are centrally located and are very wide. These busy market avenues run parallel to each other and have streets cutting through them at 90 degrees too are parallel to each other like the Avenues and streets of New York City NY, which no other city in Punjab can boast of. In addition to this there are Purana Bazar, College Road, K.C. Road (Katcha College Road), Court Road and Sekha Road. It has an old and famous place called Barnala Quilla (Fort) which is now demolished by authorities due to safety purpose except The area of Gurudwara Saheb and Durga Mandir along with the "CHULLAS" Of Baba Alla Singh Ji is said to be renovated in near future.]Barnala is still a developing city. 25 Acre, 22 Acre Colony, 16 Acre, S J S Ngr, are deloped by improvement trust plus various other private builders are developing townships and commercial places. The largest bottleneck in development of this town is Dhanaula Road (Railway Crossing). It clearly divides city in two parts and is always jammed as the frequent flow of trains and traffic as well and the main railway station is about 500mts from the crossing. Unless a Railway under-bridge is constructed the second half of Barnala will be under-developed area. As Barnala has become district now, [[investors]] will invest more on the development of Barnala. Most of the investors now put their money in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Luckhy Colony, Mahesh nagar, Court road (Handiaya road) which are the most potential and one of the best areas of the city. These area score high over others as these have wide roads, good lighting, parks, Shops, Access to Public transport & Schools and all major highways. one of the leading industries THE TRIDENT GROUP has one of its centres here... manufacturing PAPER AND TOWELS, and recently SUGAR MILL is being set up.. so barnala is going to be among the big industrial areas in near future.... ==Climate== Summer months June-August are hot and humid.
