</p><p>In 1983, <a href="/enwiki/wiki/Friedensreich_Hundertwasser" title="Friedensreich Hundertwasser">Friedensreich Hundertwasser</a> based <a href="/enwiki/wiki/Hundertwasser_koru_flag" title="Hundertwasser koru flag">his proposed design for a secondary New Zealand flag</a> on the symbol. It also formed the basis for a notable series of artworks by <a href="/enwiki/wiki/Gordon_Walters" title="Gordon Walters">Gordon Walters</a>.
