Since its founding, New England College has evolved to become a comprehensive college incorporating liberal arts and professional programs, with its highest enrollments in education, business, and the social sciences. The college is a creative and supportive learning community that challenges individuals to transform themselves and their world.
There are currently 1,093 FTE (full-time equivalent) undergraduates and 642 FTE graduate students at NEC. The school accepted 76% of its total number of applicants in 2008. Most undergraduates are residential (70%); graduate students attend courses in Henniker (10%) or at other instructional locations. Students represent over 30 states and 20 countries, although most students are from New England and the Mid-Atlantic region. International student enrollment has grown in undergraduate and graduate programs in the last several years, with 8% in undergraduate programs and 2% in graduate programs. The college has maintained a commitment to small class sizes and a low teacher/student ratio. The college conducts multi-method assessment activities which incorporate national benchmarks (e.g., NSSE), course and teaching evaluations, and student achievement and satisfaction measures. Twenty-one percent of NEC undergraduates go on to graduate school, and 98% of alumni are placed in jobs or graduate school in the first year following graduation.
The school offers associate's, bachelor's, and master's degrees. It is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges through its Commission on Institutions of Higher Education to award the bachelor's and master's degrees. The teacher education program is approved by the New Hampshire Department of Education. The Henniker Review is the school's annual literary publication.
There are several student organizations, including the Environmental Action Committee (EAC), the International Student Association, and Hillel. Students also publish a campus newspaper called The New Englander and operate a campus radio station, WNEC-FM. With the 2011 addition of men's and women's track and field, New England College now sponsors 15 intercollegiate NCAA Division III athletic sports, including lacrosse, soccer, ice hockey, field hockey, softball, baseball, basketball and cross-country, indoor and outdoor track and field teams.
