It is a [[Fictional crossover|crossover]] of the ''[[Ju-on]]'' and the ''[[Ring Trilogy|Ring]]'' series of horror films in which it is the 12th film in both franchises. Inside, they discover an old videotape, which they play. However, Yūri is distracted by her cell phone, leaving Natsumi to watch it alone. On the video, the ghost of [[Sadako Yamamura]] appears, cursing Natsumi and begins haunting her. The girls learn the previous owners of the video player have been brutally murdered in the past. They turn to Shinichi Morishige, their university teacher and a paranormal investigator, who has wanted to obtain a copy of Sadako’s tape for a long time. He copies it, but reveals Natsumi is not spared from death because Yūri was the one who passed him the tape. They go to a [[shrine]] in the hopes that the priests there can [[exorcism|exorcise]] Sadako. However, the ritual fails when Sadako murders Morishige and the priests, who tell the women to seek out a psychic named Keizo Tokiwa. Yūri decides to watch the tape to save Natsumi, but this does not work. Keizo arrives, accompanied by a blind, young psychic named Tamao, revealing the only true way to defeat Sadako is to pit her against an equally powerful vengeful ghost. Natsumi tries to commit suicide by hanging herself, but Sadako intervenes and murders her. Elsewhere, high school student Suzuka Takagi moves in a [[Tokyo]] suburban neighbourhood, becoming wary of an abandoned house across the road, infamous for the murders and disappearances that have occurred there. Suzuka witnesses three bullies chase a boy into the house, but all of them are killed by the house’s ghostly residents, dead housewife [[Kayako Saeki]] and her son [[Toshio Saeki|Toshio]]. Suzuka herself goes into the house, but is cursed. Her parents follow but are promptly murdered by the Saekis. Keizo appears, distracting Kayako by throwing Sadako’s animated hair at her, before escaping. He suggests Yūri and Suzuka become twice-cursed to get Sadako and Kayako to destroy each other. The two go into the Saekis house, and watch Sadako’s tape together. Toshio appears first, but Sadako’s hair drags him into the television, before emerging herself. Kayako appears from the attic and both ghosts engage in a violent, supernatural battle. The girls and Keizo flee to a [[water well]] behind the house, where Keizo reveals someone will have to act as a sacrifice for their plan to work. Yūri nominates herself, perching atop the well as Sadako and Kayako appear. Both ghosts rush her, but collide in midair, becoming a contorting mass of hair and body parts, before tumbling down the well, releasing a blast of energy which bisects Keizo. Suzuka seals the well, only for it to be blasted off from within, and a fusion of Sadako, Kayako, called [[Sayako]], which is on the body of Yūri, clambers out.
