Bow Brewery beers became popular among [[East India Company]] traders in the late 18th century because of the brewery's location near the [[East India Docks]]{{efn|The Bow Brewery was on the banks of the [[River Lea]] near [[Bow, London#Bridges at Bowe|Bow bridge]]. The East India Docks lay two miles down river.<ref name=Pryor2009 />}} and Hodgson's liberal [[Line of credit|credit line]] of 18 months.
