Rossy developed and built a system comprising a back pack with rigid aeroplane-type [[carbon-fiber]] wings with a span of about {{convert|2.4|m|ft}}, powered by four attached [[jet engine]]s modified from model aircraft engines. His first flight{{citation-needed|date=October 2008}} occurred in November 2006 in [[Bex]], lasting nearly six minutes.
