Thumpamon is one of the seven dioceses created after the Mulanthuruthi Christian association (synod) conducted under the leadership of Ignatios Pathros III, Patriarch of Antioch in 1876. H.G. Kallasseril Geevarghese Mar Gregorios was the metropolitan of Thumbamon from 1925 untill 1929 when he was enthroned as Catholicos Baselios Geevarghese 2.
