THE UNIVERSITY OF LAY ADVENTISTS OF KIGALI (UNILAK)
UNILAK is a private higher learning institution known for its dedication to academic excellence and integral education. Established in 1997, the university has played a pivotal role in providing quality education and fostering intellectual growth. With a commitment to nurturing future leaders and professionals, UNILAK offers a diverse range of programs through its four faculties and three campuses.
HISTORY AND ESTABLISHMENT
University of Lay Adventists of Kigali (UNILAK) was created by the Federation of Adventist Parents Associations for the Development of Education in Rwanda (FAPADER) which is an association of several lay Seventh day Adventist proprietorship of primary and secondary school associations that include:

· APADEK
· APADENYA
· APAER
· APARPE
· APARUDE
· ASPEJ
· UMWUNGERI
· APADEM
UNILAK was approved through the Convention No. 001 of 03 February 1997, which was signed between the Government of the Republic of Rwanda, and FAPADER.
The University obtained legal identity as a nonprofit association under Rwandan law through the Ministerial Decree No. 89/11 of 02 July 2004 and it was fully accredited by the government of Rwanda through the Ministerial Order NO 002/09 of 09/04/2009.
The University’s Headquarters are located in the City of Kigali, Gasabo District, Remera Sector. UNILAK has also expanded its activities in the Southern province (Nyanza) and Eastern Province (Rwamagana) and the two campuses operate with a competitive modern boarding facility.
UNILAK Data Universal Numbering System (D-U-N-S) Number is 561227536 which show the extent to which UNILAK is credible at global level.
FACULTIES
UNILAK has four faculties offered both in undergraduate and master’s level:
Faculty of Economic Sciences and Management: This faculty is dedicated to equipping students with a profound understanding of economics, management principles, and business practices. Through a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical exposure, students are prepared to tackle the challenges of the dynamic global business environment.
Faculty of Law: The Faculty of Law at UNILAK is renowned for its rigorous legal education program. It focuses on instilling a deep understanding of legal principles, ethics, and critical thinking skills. Graduates from this faculty contribute to the legal profession with a strong foundation in both local and international law.
Faculty of Environmental Studies: With a growing emphasis on environmental sustainability, this faculty provides students with the tools to address pressing environmental issues. Through interdisciplinary approaches, students gain insights into environmental science, policy, and management, fostering a commitment to creating a more sustainable world.
Faculty of Computing and Information Sciences: In the digital age, the Faculty of Computing and Information Sciences stands as a hub for technological innovation and advancement. Students here engage with cutting-edge technologies, programming languages, and software development, preparing them for roles in the rapidly evolving tech industry.
CAMPUSES
UNILAK has three distinct campuses that offer a vibrant and conducive learning environment:
Main Campus: The heart of UNILAK's academic activities, the Main Campus is as old as the institution because it was the founding ground of UNILAK. Located along KK 508 street; It hosts the administrative offices, lecture halls and laboratories. The beautiful campus is in a prime strategic location of Kigali where one can easily access both the city center and sub urban parts of Kigali.
Nyanza Campus: Situated in the Southern Province of the country, in Nyanza District, the Nyanza Campus was established in 2011 and offers a dynamic setting for students pursuing their studies. This campus provides all necessities of a fully fledged residential campus. Its hostels are those of hygiene and comfort for both the male and female students.
It caters to the needs of working professionals and students who prefer a more rural location, providing flexible schedules and specialized programs.
Rwamagana Campus: Situated in the Eastern province of the country, in Rwamagana District. It was inaugurated in the year 2012 thus being the youngest campus of UNILAK. The campus lightens up the glamour of the Rwamagana town and provides access to education to the people of the Eastern Province.
