'Conceived by First Lady [[Maria Shriver]], the '''California Hall of Fame''' was established with [[The California Museum for History, Women and the Arts]] to honor legendary individuals and families who embody [[California|California’s]] innovative spirit and have made their mark on history. Since 2006, the museum has hosted an annual ceremony to induct roughly a dozen individuals per year into the California Hall of Fame. On [[December 6]], [[2006]], the inaugural class: [[Ronald Reagan]], [[César Chávez]], [[Walt Disney]], [[Amelia Earhart]], [[Clint Eastwood]], [[Frank Gehry]], [[David Ho|David D. Ho, M.D.]], [[Billie Jean King]], [[John Muir]], [[Sally K. Ride]], Ph.D., [[Alice Walker]] and the Hearst and Packard Families, was inducted into the California Hall of Fame. On [[December 5]], [[2007]], Governor [[Arnold Schwarzenegger]] and First Lady Maria Shriver inducted the 2007 California Hall of Fame Inductees: [[Ansel Adams]], [[Milton Berle]], [[Steve Jobs]], [[Willie Mays]], [[Robert Mondavi]], [[Rita Moreno]], [[Jackie Robinson]], [[Jonas Salk|Jonas Salk, M.D.]], [[John Steinbeck]], [[Elizabeth Taylor]], [[Earl Warren]], [[John Wayne]], and [[Tiger Woods]]. Inducted on [[December 15]], [[2008]] were: [[Dave Brubeck]], [[Jane Fonda]], [[Theodor Geisel]] ("Dr. Seuss"), [[Robert Graham (sculptor)|Robert Graham]], [[Quincy Jones]], [[Jack LaLanne]], [[Dorothea Lange]], [[Julia Morgan]], [[Jack Nicholson]], [[Linus Pauling]], [[Leland Stanford]] and [[Alice Waters]]. Governor Schwarzenegger and First Lady Shriver gave introductory speeches at the induction ceremony, which was broadcast live via [[streaming media|video]] from the California Museum website. The California Hall of Fame exhibit includes a striking display in the museum lobby, as well as a collection of over 100 historic and original items representing the lives and legacies of the inductees, originally located on the second floor. In 2008, the exhibit moved to the first floor galleries, expanding the floor space to over 3,000 square feet. The California Hall of Fame exhibit is on view year-round. Introductions were given by presenting sponsors Chevron Corporation and Accenture. Museum Board Chair Dina Eastwood welcomed the Governor and First Lady. Governor Schwarzenegger opened the reading of the citations. He presented Jack LaLanne, who in turn presented Alice Waters. Waters presented Ellen North, who accepted the award on behalf of her great-aunt Julia Morgan. North presented Linus Pauling, whose award was accepted by son Dr. Linus Pauling, Jr. Pauling read the citation for Robert Graham. Graham was unable to attend the ceremony, so his son, Steven Graham stood in his place. Graham read Leland Stanford's citation, who was represented by great, great grand-nephew Tom Stanford. Stanford read Jane Fonda's citation, who in turn presented Dorothea Lange's award. Lange was represented by her son Daniel Dixon, who read the citation for Quincy Jones. Jones read Dave Brubeck's citation. Brubeck began to read the citation for Jack Nicholson, but half way through the first paragraph tossed his planned remarks to the side and spoke about his personal encounter with the young actor. Nicholson remarked at the podium, "Everybody else discovers molecules and I'm a drunk in a bar."
