<p>Chao was born in Anaheim, California. </p><p>Deciding not to pursue acting, Chao enrolled in the communications department at the <a href="/enwiki/wiki/University_of_Southern_California" title="University of Southern California">University of Southern California</a> where she earned her degree in journalism.
