The aggregate land area of the islands is about {{convert|1790|km2|mi2}}, with [[Vanatinai|Vanatinai (Tagula)]] being the largest. [[Sideia Island]] and [[Basilaki Island]] lie closest to New Guinea, while [[Misima Island|Misima]], Vanatinai, and [[Rossel Island|Rossel]] islands lie further east.
