He and his family migrated to [[Queens, New York]] when he was young and then moved to [[Flushing, New York]] during his teen years. Before he auditioned for American Idol, he was working as a non-profit organizer which he dedicate his time working with children with special needs. Previously, he suffered from an emotional depression and the children that he worked with are the ones who helped him to recover from his illness. He said that the children motivated him to audition for ''American Idol'' and credited his achievements on the show towards the children. ==Music career== ===2012: ''American Idol''=== Han auditioned for the eleventh season of ''American Idol'' in [[Pittsburgh]], [[Pennsylvania]] with a performance of [[Michael Bolton]]'s version of the song, "[[How Am I Supposed to Live Without You#Michael Bolton version|How Am I Supposed to Live Without You]]". From early on, Han was a judge favorite. His audition brought Idol judge [[Jennifer Lopez]] to tears and Idol judge [[Steven Tyler]] stated "I think you are really great. I think you could be the American Idol". He received a golden ticket for the auditions in [[Hollywood]], [[Los Angeles]], [[California]]. He gained notice from his talented singing voice, which was described by Lopez as "smooth and silk", as well as his nervous jitters and sense of humor. Heejun performed the same song that he sang for his first audition, "[[How Am I Supposed to Live Without You#Michael Bolton version|How Am I Supposed to Live Without You]]", for his first solo performance in the Hollywood. Once again, he impressed the three Idol judges and they put him through to the next round. The group had issues during the preparation of their performance, as Law insisted that the performance would "do it in his own way" and refused to accept the suggestions given by Heejun and the other group members. Despite the fact that the judges were not satisfied with their performance, all of them were put through to the next round as the judges believed that they deserved a second chance in the competition.
