A small request
Greetings @ Mathglot
Though I replied you @ WT:MOSBIO, my real concern has been @ this move discussion. In this discussion one option offered is usage of word 'Prophet' since it is claimed that news RS support such use but I am not sure effect on neutrality of the article if users approve of such usage. So I need to make a better presentation, Please let me know if you are aware of any sources which can be studied and presented.
Thanks and warm regards

Random translation question
What would you call the human being(s) that carry a large puppet at a festival? PS - is there news about Odebrecht or were you just reviewing it? Elinruby (talk) 07:35, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
- I know you like links; talking about this: Gayant, but it’s pretty much like the one in northern Spain (unsure if Basque or Catalan) where I asked for your opinion on blouse Elinruby (talk) 07:39, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Elinruby: 1) Just reviewing. 2) Dunno; parade puppet? Mathglot (talk) 07:42, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
The articles uses “processional puppet”, but what do you call the people carrying it? Article says bearers, which seems wrong somehow. If you aren’t having any epiphanies over this, it isn’t all that important. Just let me know if you have one, I guess? Elinruby (talk) 07:49, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

CCI update
Thanks for requesting the KatBet one, which is now complete. Along the way I also found 12 instances of copying from external sites (mostly IMDb), so it's great that those have now been removed in addition to all of the cross-wiki attribution fixes. DanCherek (talk) 18:05, 21 July 2022 (UTC)

Hey
Hey you replaced the heading with a snotty edit summary. It is not the norm to place headings in an AfD. You can say, comment, or other such thing. please see all other AfDs for SOP. Bruxton (talk) 01:37, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Bruxton: I did not replace any heading (I added a couple, because the Afd was getting very long). I double checked all my edits and all my edit summaries, and I did not add any snotty summary. You must have me confused with someone else. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 01:42, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
- You reinstalled the heading with the summary "Red Herring" which you just now repeated in the AfD. Bruxton (talk) 01:43, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Bruxton:, there's nothing wrong with the term red herring; it's a perfectly legitimate term in English. There's no reason not to use it, when something is a red herring. Which your comment was, because instead of disagreeing with the logic of the person you disagreed with at the Afd based on policies and guidelines, you instead brought up the misleading side-issue of canvassing, which in fact had not occurred, contrary to your assertions. So, I called them out as a "red herring". I realize you don't appreciate that, and don't agree with it, and I apologize if I hurt your feelings. However, your claim of canvassing was mistaken per the definition at WP:APPNOTE, which I linked for you at the Afd, and your claim that someone was calling for individual editors to join the conversation who agreed with them, was also mistaken. There's every reason in the world that another editor should point that out, in order to avoid leaving the incorrect and misleading statements go unanswered. Cheers, Mathglot (talk) 01:56, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
- Anyway, sorry to meet you in a contentious AfD. Red herring essentially means Fake problem designed to distract, which is not at all what removing the headings was. I was returning it to the norm. The Afd looks like a train wreck now. The AfD was the result of me patrolling and I came to what looked like a redundant fork. I am sorry to find myself on the opposite side of a good Wikipedian like yourself. I Hope we meet again and work together in the future. None of this is personal. Bruxton (talk) 02:04, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
- Same here. Btw, I never complained about the removal of section headings; I disagreed with it, but I left it that way anyway. I agree that the Afd looks like a train wreck now, and I was hoping the headings might help (was even considering adding "arbitrary break", but decided against). I don't think we're on "opposite sides" because we're both clearly trying to improve the encyclopedia the best way we know how. If that sometimes means we end up disagreeing about this or that point, that never bothers me; I love the strong disagreement I get from the very best editors, like User:Tamzin at Talk:James Barry (surgeon); it makes me a better editor. I hope to learn from you, as well. Not to worry; didn't take it personally, and hope you didn't either! Thanks for your comments, and your understanding. Best, Mathglot (talk) 02:10, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks...I looked at you stuff, you are here to make the project great! You and I have both started quite a few articles. We are definitely on the same side. I will say I am much happier working on content. The AfDs are just a part of the NPP process. Bruxton (talk) 02:21, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
- As an aside to both of you here, that AFD is already at 84kb. With the recent notifications to several noticeboards and wikiprojects, I would not be surprised if this becomes one of the most attended AFDs of all time. Sideswipe9th (talk) 02:25, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
- I'm not sure about attendance; I've seen some big ones. And the "death by Marxism" AfD got GNG-passing coverage.
- I feel as though this one could make the Top 10 list for heavily bludgeoned AfDs, however (and I have to suffer through the reply tool now, because the page is unstable on my tablet). Newimpartial (talk) 02:27, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
- The longest AFD, the 4th nomination for mass killings under communist rule was 510kb. So we're almost 1/5th of the way there. Sideswipe9th (talk) 02:29, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) That is not a good thing. Editors should focus on the content. If it looked like it was a notable topic I would withdraw. Bruxton (talk) 02:31, 24 July 2022 (UTC)

Conditional past - would have withdrawn. It's far too late now.
And Sideswipe9th - yup, that's death by Marxism. Someone should write an article based on the RS coverage of that one. Newimpartial (talk) 02:35, 24 July 2022 (UTC)

Hello, Mathglot,
Just a head's up, this draft is due to be deleted tonight via CSD G13. If there is any content you want to preserve, you might edit this page. If not, well, the draft will be deleted tonight. Thanks! Liz Read! Talk! 22:16, 4 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Liz:, yikes, thank you so much; that would have been a disaster! Well, maybe not a disaster, I guess there's always REFUND. I might need to move this suite of templates to my user space, as other stuff keeps piling onto my stack faster than I can clear it out to get to the older stuff that's (urgently?) waiting for attention. (Does that sound at all familiar?) Thanks a lot for letting me know! Mathglot (talk) 22:25, 4 August 2022 (UTC)
Translations
I am willing to understand the issue further, so please excuse my ignorance. When I look at a word which seems inconsistent or potentially wrongly translated I look it up in a dictionary (or online source), I have no problem understanding the concept of a parkway because the dictionary tells me it is a street for driving. When I look up the word Generalmajor it tells me it is a major general, when I look up the word driveway it tells me it is a road to a garage. The point being, the dictionary makes a correct translation of the semantics and concept, however in case of the military rank it fails to correctly translate the equivalency of the rank. Invitation to Local Wikimania Event in San Francisco this Friday
Hi!
Wikimania is happening and hopefully you're enjoying the sessions. While it's fairly last minute, you're warmly invited to participate in the local Wikimania-themed meetup in the Wikimedia Foundation office this Friday (tomorrow!). You will have to register in advance, but we would love to see more people from the WikiSalon community participate! For more information and registration, please check out meta:Wikimania 2022/San Francisco Meetup.
The event will involve hacking, teaching, learning, and celebrating and we'll have snacks. We will have the opportunity to watch live sessions at Wikimania together in the afternoon. The rest of the day we'll have opportunity to participate in the hackathon, and we may have some on-demand workshops/learning sessions.
In case we run out of space, it's first-come-first-serve so let us know soon! Hope to see you there.
