:I nominate RoySmith for his tireless work at SPI. With seventeen years and over 70,000 contributions, he shows no signs of slowing down. Not only does he do yeoman's work in defending the barricades against the socky hoards, but he has also put his coding skills to great use in developing tools that allow SPI clerks and CUs to extract information from old cases quickly and effectively. SPI is a corner of Wikipedia that is very much behind-the-scenes; working there is repetitive, often pretty grimy, but it needs to be done to prevent the LTAs and spammers from damaging to work of our volunteers. RoySmith has been doing a disproportionate amount of that work for a long time - it would be great to see that recognised.

Sockpuppet Investigation

I noticed the recent sockpuppet investigation on a user named Thundercloss, which concluded that the user was sockpuppeting. Was the user TCElectrified also a sock puppet of the same person? I had a prior situation linked here where TCElectrified briefly appeared to make a Thundercloss style edit. Seeing the ruling, I thought I should raise the question. I see your note to editors, but I post here since that report was closed. Hopefully that's correct in the situation and that I have not annoyed you. JArthur1984 (talk) 21:54, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm, at first glance, I don't know what's going on there. One of them reverted an edit by the other one, which doesn't sound like a sock, but you never know. My suggestion is to file an SPI. -- RoySmith (talk) 23:01, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If account creation had been blocked, reading from the log for Estnot, how would they be able to make another sock such as Thundercloss then? Vacosea (talk) 21:59, 31 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
JArthur1984 I noticed that account and was going to ask if you knew about it. In the end I forgot to follow up, because I was hurried last week. Vacosea (talk) 21:59, 31 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • An RfC has been closed with the consensus that train stations are not inherently notable.

Technical news

  • The Wikimania 2022 Hackathon will take place virtually from 11 August to 14 August.
  • Administrators will now see links on user pages for "Change block" and "Unblock user" instead of just "Block user" if the user is already blocked. (T308570)

Arbitration

  • The arbitration case request Geschichte has been automatically closed after a 3 month suspension of the case.

Miscellaneous

  • You can vote for candidates in the 2022 Board of Trustees elections from 16 August to 30 August. Two community elected seats are up for election.
  • Wikimania 2022 is taking place virtually from 11 August to 14 August. The schedule for wikimania is listed here. There are also a number of in-person events associated with Wikimania around the world.

Sockpuppet investigations

Hi there! Could you please consider adding User:Mokerenui to Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Jinnifer? See User talk:GoingBatty#Horror film - asking me again to edit the Horror film article. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 00:13, 6 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The "Horror film" section of my talk page was deleted by Apokryltaros in this edit. I'd appreciate if one of you could update the sockpuppet investigation. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 00:26, 6 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like somebody already blocked them, thanks for the note. -- RoySmith (talk) 15:44, 6 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
