History

[edit]

Established in 1995, the Kai Tin Shopping Centre was formerly known as Blocks 10 to 15 of Lam Tin Estate.

It is separated into two major wings: including the original older wing and the new mall extension, referred to as the new wing. The former was completed and opened to the public in 1998 with 5 floors.[1]

The new wing was completed in 2003, comprising of 5 floors and over 10000 square meters. One of the significant stores was AEON, formerly JUSCO supermarket, which covered approximately 31000 square feet and was one of the largest supermarkets in Hong Kong. Eventually, AEON supermarket closed its doors in 2022.[7] Customers and residents of Lam Tin have expressed disappointment over the supermarket's closure. Today, several stores now stand where AEON was once located, including Milkcafe, Jumpin Gym and King Prawn Restaurant.[8]
