Early life
Caroline Nokes is the daughter of Roy Perry, former MEP for the Wight and Hampshire South constituency.[2]
Nokes was educated at The Romsey School, La Sagesse Convent in Romsey and then Peter Symonds' College, Winchester, going on to read politics at the University of Sussex from 1991 to 1994.[3]
Career
Nokes worked for her father between 1994 and 2004.[2] She is also a former chief executive of the National Pony Society.[4]
Political career
Nokes is a member of Test Valley Borough Council from 1999, when she was elected as a Councillor for the Romsey Extra Ward;[5] her term will end in 2011, unless she resigns before.
She was the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for the Southampton Itchen constituency in the 2001 General Election; and Romsey constituency in the 2005 General Election, declaring in a photoshoot for a women’s glossy magazine on the hottest candidates for election, saying: “I’ve been told I’m too pretty to be in politics.”[4][6]
In the run up to the 2010 UK general Election, Nokes was one of the parliamentary candidates who signed a pledge that they would "respect, uphold and protect the right of Christians to hold and express Christian beliefs and act according to Christian conscience."[4] Nokes became an MP having beaten the previous incumbent, Sandra Gidley by 4,165 votes in the 2010 General Election.[7][8]
Personal life
Married to businessman Marc since June 1995,[6] the couple have a daughter, Tabitha, and live in West Wellow.[9] In June 2010, it was revealed that Nokes was having an affair with 27 year old Conservative councillor James Dinsdale, whom she had first met at the Conservative conference in Bournemouth in October 3, 2006.[10][4][11][6]
