The 411th Flight Test Squadron (411 FTS) is a United States Air Force squadron. It is assigned to the 412th Operations Group, Air Force Materiel Command, stationed at Edwards Air Force Base, California.
Overview
The 411th FTS performed flight testing on the YF-22 Raptor and YF-23 Lightning II aircraft between 1989 and 1991. After the selection of the YF-22 as the fifth generation air supremecy fighter, the mission of the squadron has become testing of current and future weapon systems as well as conducting concept testing for aircraft subsystems.
On March 25, 2009 an F-22 operated by a squadron pilot, David P. Cooley, crashed 35 miles northeast of Edwards Air Force Base during a training flight.[1]
