Reception

The show has received mixed reviews; Sarah Deen, in a Metro article, summarised that "everyone either completely loved or absolutely hated [the show]".[3] Adam Postans described You're Back in the Room as "one of the worst prime-time shows you'll ever see" in a Daily Mirror article.[4] Sam Wollaston gave the programme a mixed review, describing it as "quite funny for a while", but said it went "backwards from Brown to McKenna".[5] Benji Wilson from The Daily Telegraph gave the show a very positive review, opining that it is "significantly funnier than anything else on TV".[6]

The show has been criticised by some hypnotists, such as Mark Powlett and Liz McElligott (chief executive of the National Hypnotherapy Society), who have said that it is not possible to use hypnosis to make people do things against their will and that contestants are merely playing along. Keith Barry has asserted that all contestants are genuinely hypnotised and ITV have said that "duty of care to the contestants was always of paramount importance", and that the show follows regulations of Ofcom and the 1952 Hypnotism Act.[7]

International versions
