I would like to re-open the case for moving Wembley Arena to SSE Arena, Wembley. I believe the previous attempt was abruptly closed without a proper consensus, especially considering more people supported rather than disagreed the move. My support remains the same: SSE is in a 10 year sponsorship, and we are already three years in it. It is now more referred to as SSE Arena rather than Wembley Arena. --[[User:MetrolandNW|MetrolandNW]] ([[User talk:MetrolandNW|talk]]) 20:29, 18 April 2018 (UTC) |

Expansion request
Short stub, could have a lot of infomation on the many famous sporting and musical events that have occured there. Grunners 18:00, 16 Dec 2004 (UTC)
The "Upcoming notable events" section has gotta go. Wikipedia is not a directory or indiscriminate collection of information, and it's definitely not a promotional vehicle. This also brings up WP:SPAM and WP:NPOV issues. Morgan Wick 06:37, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
Artists
Do we really need such a huge list of performers that have played there? -- JediLofty User | Talk 10:16, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
- No. Same goes for Wembley Stadium. --kingboyk (talk) 22:23, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
Many of the artists which are listed as 'set to play the "new" venue' have already played, so this needs to be updated --Alexdude1991 00:14, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
Ownership
It would be good if this article and the article on the Stadium had some information on ownership. AFAIK both were owned by Wembley PLC; the FA now owns the Stadium but Wikipedia doesn't tell us much (anything?) more than that. --kingboyk (talk) 22:24, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Show Jumping
Hi, is this the Wembley Arena that held top International show jumping in the 1970's and 1980's ? If so please mention it!! Reply on my talk page. - Culnacréann 17:31, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
Madonna didn't do Wembley Arena in 2008
At the head of the 'Music' section, Madonna's 2008 concert is referred to. Madonna didn't do Wembley Arena in 2008. Unlike previous tours, it was Wembley Stadium that time. Should that concert be even referred to, therefore, in an article specifically about Wembley Arena? Caspar (talk) 01:43, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
Who's Missing ?
During my involvement with Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Backlog elimination drives/May 2010, I was editing George Michael. I don't remember how I got to Wembley Arena, maybe fixing a link, anyways I was reading through the list of musical acts that have "Played" at the arena. And I quickly noticed an act "missing" from the list, which prompted this question. I say "missing" only because it's hard to believe this act "not playing" there Pink Floyd, surly this English rock band had played London's second largest indoor arena. Now as I was getting the links to put in this message I found Wembley Stadium (1923), my first thought was, ok they played here, this question no longer needs to be asked. I now think why not ask ? Has Pink Floyd ever played Wembly Arena (you would think if Led Zeppelin and Queen played there, then Floyd seems "missing") ? While I wait for a response I will try to find out the difference between Wembley Stadium, and Wembley Arena. Thanx, Mlpearc MESSAGE 16:13, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
- Maybe we should ask the opposite question: given that so many acts have appeared at Wembley Arena, what's the point of listing them all? NebY (talk) 20:51, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
- That is a Good question. Mlpearc MESSAGE 16:30, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
Very large and unreferenced list
The list of music acts that has performed at Wembley Arena now includes 161 acts. What is its value? Moreover, not one is referenced and I do not see how we can have any faith that any act listed has indeed played at Wembley Arena. Would we do better to remove it entirely rather than to leave it to expand? NebY (talk) 10:25, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
- This is getting out of hand, and it's not just this article, it's every other arena article. While all the lists are getting bigger by the day, this article seems to be one of the worst for listing performers, and in my opinion, the long list is taking away from the article. A quick check of other arena articles, and you will see that most have the same long list of names, with one editor who seems to pick a performer of the day and then spends hours adding that performer to a large number of articles. I really don't know what should be done about this, but a line has to be drawn somewhere. I can see performances that are for one reason or another notable being included, as long as they are referenced, but every performer being added to every place they performed seems rather trivial. Now, editors have started adding whenever a scheduled concert was cancelled, unreferenced and no reason why the cancellation is notable to be added to an encyclopedia. Cmr08 (talk) 07:13, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
- I only just discovered how widespread this long-listing is when checking contributors and their other contributions before starting to take corrective action on this article. Rioght now I'm staying focused on this: I've tagged it, explained the taggging here and left a message on User talk:Shyguy1991 as the contributor of most of the recent additions, inviting participation in this discussion. The message remains there. I'd like to wait another day or three to see if that editor or anyone else joins the discussion before simply removing the list, UTC and all.
- If that proceeds without conflict, perhaps I, or you, or anyone else could carry on working through the other articles about music venues worldwide that have long lists. My first thought is that each case should go through the same process of tagging and talking, but that would be a long process. I'm also conscious that it would look very like a campaign to utterly excise months of work by one editor. I need advice. Do you recommend the Village Pump? Or any other forum? NebY (talk) 20:00, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
- "Months of work by one editor" can appropriately be edited or even removed if is not in keeping with the ideals of the project. The editor in question has been approached repeatedly and has never responded; hir only action has been to blank hir Talk page and proceed undeterred in adding every possible performer to every venue they've appeared at. No reason to be slow about correcting this situation, except perhaps that I, personally, had a hard time on the one occasion I took time to find good refs for names at Hallenstadion. The first four or five performers I chose didn't lead to any solid refs, making them candidates for removal when I eventually source other representative acts, and I put the work aside. I'll get to it eventually, but there's no reason to be shy with Shyguy's edits, and no reason to go to VP or ANI. The user's been notified (Monday) of this discussion, has just deleted the notice from Talk (3 hours ago), and if no reply appears we can certainly move on in good conscience. The idea of waiting a day or two more is very thoughtful, and I support it, but more we need not do. The lists are abominable in any case, and require action. — JohnFromPinckney (talk) 23:01, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
NME Poll Winners Concerts & Greatest Hits Live (Rip It to Shreds)
I believe that the NME Poll Winners Concerts of the 1960s were held at the Empire Pool (Wembley Arena), not Wembley Stadium. In addition, I believe that The Animals album Greatest Hits Live (Rip It to Shreds) would have also been recorded at Wembley Arena, and not Wembley Stadium. Can anyone confirm this? Best Regards. The old pool
I'm sure I read somewhere that the original pool was never destroyed, but lies beneath the flooring at Wembley Arena. Anyone got a source for this? --Dweller (talk) 10:15, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
YES - the pool is still there, I've seen it! EmilyWiki (talk) 22:40, 23 March 2017 (UTC)

Move to The SSE Arena, Wembley
- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: not moved. This is mostly a procedural close, as a page move was done after this discussion and promptly reverted. It seems that in the interest of page stability, the new unspoken consensus is to leave the article name as is and add its new name in bold in the lede. (non-admin closure) Rotideypoc41352 (talk) 02:53, 15 April 2018 (UTC)
Hi all - Wembley Arena is now known as The SSE Arena, Wembley as part of a 10 year sponsorship deal so the divert needs to be reversed (it's currently from The SSE Arena, Wembley to Wembley Arena). I know the form regarding buildings that get renamed for sponsorship reasons, but as it is a 10-year deal, diverting to Wembley Arena is incorrect. I set up a new article for The SSE Arena, Wembley showcasing key points from 2014 when SSE sponsored the building so a divert wouldn't be needed at all, but User:Mduvekot removed the article and reinstated the divert. So the option is to have a new article, which Wembley Arena would link to OR reverse the divert? any advice please! Apologies, new to Wiki so not au fait with the shorthand etc...EmilyWiki (talk) 13:24, 23 March 2017 (UTC)
- Multiple articles for a single building (subject) just because the name changes is not necessary. Should the article be moved to the new name reflecting the sponsorship deal - I would think yes since it is two years old and expected to continue for another eight. I will do it if there are no objections over the week.Peter Rehse (talk) 13:32, 23 March 2017 (UTC)
I'm not sure. I've never heard anyone refer to it as anything other than Wembley Arena until this moment, but... I'm not a reliable source. What do reliable sources call it? We should go with WP:COMMONNAME. --Dweller (talk) Become old fashioned! 14:11, 23 March 2017 (UTC)
The official name of it is The SSE Arena, Wembley. I guess the equivalent would be the Millenium Dome becoming The O2. That was a 10 year sponsorship deal too, which has just been extended for another 10 years Cite error: There are <ref>
tags on this page without content in them (see the help page).http://www.campaignlive.co.uk/article/o2-renews-naming-rights-o2-greenwich-10-year-deal/1425091EmilyWiki (talk) 14:16, 23 March 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, so I see. What do reliable sources call it? Sometimes sources mainly ignore these sponsorships and in those cases we do too, like when Newcastle United tried renaming St James' Park. See Talk:St_James'_Park#Sponsored_name --Dweller (talk) Become old fashioned! 16:45, 23 March 2017 (UTC)
Wow that is a hell of a thread! Totally understand where you are coming from Dweller but the issue at St James Park was a) less than a 1 year deal (it was only renamed from Nov 11 - Oct 12: [1]), and b) was a much more personal affair as only one team (Newcastle Utd) had ever used the Stadium (St James Park), whereas at Wembley hundreds of bands/acts/shows/sports have gone through the doors, so there is less of an emotional connection.
In regards to reliable sources, BBC call it The SSE Arena, Wembley [2], as do The Times [3] and even the Daily Mail [4]. Not sure what other reliable sources one could call on, could someone please advise? Many thanks. EmilyWiki (talk) 22:40, 23 March 2017 (UTC)

Morning all, Peter Rehse do you think we can reverse the redirect now please? Doesn't look like there has been any more people disagreeing? Thanks. EmilyWiki (talk) 07:44, 6 April 2017 (UTC)

- Thank you for all your help Peter Rehse, much appreciated. Will now tidy up the page a bit! EmilyWiki (talk) 09:58, 7 April 2017 (UTC)
- I also support the case for moving it to The SSE Arena, Wembley, especially considering the sponsorship lasts for at least 10 years. We're already over three years with the new name, and the 'Wembley Arena' name has by now fallen out of use. --MetrolandNW (talk) 16:29, 8 April 2018 (UTC)

Move to SSE Arena, Wembley (reopen)
- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
- Not enough support for re-opening, I see nothing wrong with the original closure Ronhjones (Talk) 13:57, 27 April 2018 (UTC)
--MetrolandNW (talk) 20:29, 18 April 2018 (UTC)
- disagree the move would be absolutely ridiculous!!Evangp (talk) 02:22, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
- Comment @MetrolandNW: greetings! Wikipedia:Move review asks that you talk to me, the closer, directly before reopening the move request. I was just curious as to why you didn't do so. Cheers, Rotideypoc41352 (talk) 05:27, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
- Endorse the consensus to keep the current name as closer. I've decided to respond here instead of my talk page, since my comments are more relevant to the move review than to user conduct.
- Regarding abrupt closure: per Wikipedia:Requested moves:
Requests are generally processed after seven days.
Talk:Wembley Arena#Move to The SSE Arena, Wembley was open for more than a year. No additional discussion had followed the revert of the move for almost a year as well. I followed Wikipedia:Requested moves/Closing instructions#Determining consensus, keeping in mind the pointsno minimum participation is required
andthis is not a vote
. As stated in the close, it was mostly procedural - I made formal something that had already been in effect for over a year with no major problems. - I also referred to Wikipedia policy, such as Wikipedia:Article titles#Name changes. Even after 1 July 2014, news sources seem to favour "Wembley Arena" over the SSE name. As explained by the previous page mover, an admin has refused to delete the redirect for similar reasons (Special:diff/835417118). The closing instructions also favour the most recent stable title, while the SSE title lasted but a few hours. These reasons mean the page likely will keep its name as of this comment.
- I believe I have followed the spirit and intent of WP:RCMI in closing the requested move. If I am unaware of significant additional information not discussed in the RM, I am more than happy to be informed of such information and reconsider my decision.
