DYK for Piposh (2019 video game)

On 14 February 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Piposh (2019 video game), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Israeli video game Piposh, to be released in 2019, will be a reboot of the original 1999 game of the same name? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Piposh (2019 video game). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Piposh (2019 video game)), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Thank you for creating the article for the above game. It was one of my absolutely favorites growing up. I had actually installed an emulator version to my laptop, but it was unfortunately wiped when I had to get it repaired. Hope you are doing well. Aoba47 (talk) 22:49, 15 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • I will probably try to get the game back in the future. I will also check m external hard-drive to see if I saved it. Ironically enough, last year, I had considered starting a YouTube channel on older video games, including a play-through of the Rugrats Adventure Game. Those all sound like excellent projects. I am currently revising some of GAs to bring them through the FAC process. I do not have any plans for GANs in the future though, but it would be nice to do something completely different. Maybe I will do another video game article, because I have only brought one through the GAN process in the past. I have thought about working on the Anastasia: Adventures with Pooka and Bartok article (as it was one of my childhood favorites), but the coverage on it is extremely limited (at least when I searched for sources). On an unrelated note, I watched some YouTube videos of Friends: The One with All the Trivia. It is 100% a cash-in, and such an odd release lol, yet I have watched several videos on it lol. Aoba47 (talk) 21:23, 17 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Aoba47: Wow, if you ever decide to do your YouTube review channel, I'll be sure to watch. :) As you can probably see, I've gone back to Anastasia: Adventures with Pooka and Bartok and touched it up with an many sorcs as I could find; perhaps that extra coverage warrants a GA article? (It could be plumped up with some more background information on Fox Interactive and Motion Works). Haha I watched some YouTube clips of that Friends game too while I was working on the article. Crazily enough, while it looks like it was made in two hours, there's a tonne of coverage on it. Anyway, the game I'm about to improve is The Fool's Errand. It's free to download and extremely fun and brain-challenging. Perhaps this project could be of interest to you?--Coin945 (talk) 05:36, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you. I have been thinking about starting a YouTube channel on video game analysis. I have a Master of Arts in English Language and Literature, and I think it would be fun to carry over my literary analysis skills into video games. I would honestly only make YouTube videos for fun and to develop and refine video-editing skills to expand my resume. The Anastasia: Adventures with Pooka and Bartok article looks great! Thank you for expanding it so much. I would make sure to format the references properly (for instance, the first reference is a bare URL), and replace MobyGames with something else as that source is not considered reliable. Maybe, one day in the future, I will help out with the Friends: The One with All the Trivia article. It is such an odd game to me, although I would probably still enjoy playing it lol. I will definitely check out The Fool's Errand; it sounds really interesting! Aoba47 (talk) 17:15, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Tajemnica Statuetki

Hi Coin, I've removed a large chunk of text about the game's creator from the article; please see its talk page. I noticed Adrian Chmielarz has an article, maybe some of the text and sources could be useful there. Cheers, Baffle☿gab 02:25, 26 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I've now finished my c/e; I have a few suggestions for progress:
  • The "Reception" section particularly could use some cleanup; I noticed that several sources are used multiple times there. Merging these sentences would reduce the section significantly. The same goes for "Legacy";
  • You could remove or refactor some of the less significant and lower-quality sources – unfortunately I don't understand Polish so I can't help discern which sources these might be.
  • Some of the text I removed to the article's talk page might be useful in other articles (see my earlier comments above).
Anyway I'm done here; I hope the c/e is useful for you and helps you further develop the article. i found it an interesting read. Good luck and cheers, Baffle☿gab 02:55, 27 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Baffle gab1978: Thank you for the copyedit. I am optimistic that this article is closer to GA than it ever has before. Do you have any final comments on how I should proceed to tighten the article up further and prepare it for nom?--Coin945 (talk) 21:36, 27 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. :) Yes, I forgot to add that the leader could be expanded to four paragraphs to more fully summarise the body text. Good luck with your planned GA nom; it's an interesting subject. Cheers, Baffle☿gab 06:49, 28 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Pilgrim: Faith as a Weapon

Hello:

The copy edit you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article Pilgrim: Faith as a Weapon has been completed.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

You will notice that I have added a "clarify" tag in the Gameplay section: "regardless of where the player is,[clarification needed] Disc 1 must be inserted every time they boot up the game." This is unclear.

I have "hidden" text in the Reception section that is not specific to this game, where the Google translation was gibberish and did not support the text, or where the sites would not load so the text could not be verified. You can see this in Edit mode. I draw your attention to this Wikipedia page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Video_games/Sources which deals with sources considered "reliable" (by consensus) in video game articles. Many of the sources you cite in this section come from mobygames.com which is not considered reliable. I notice there is lengthy discussion on the article's talk page about the issue of reliability, so perhaps you are aware of the problem with this site. These will need to be deleted or more "reliable" sources found before the article will pass GA, I suspect. On the whole, the Reception section is far too long, in my opinion. As often happens with these articles many editors continue to add reviews they have unearthed, important or not, in a seeming quest to add absolutely everything ever written about the subject. This just results in a bloated, unreadable article.

I suspect one of the problems you have encountered with this article is there are very few reviews in English. But having to rely on Google translations of articles in other languages creates its own set of issues. A few I looked at were basically gibberish and would not pass the "reliability" test. I don't know if a GA reviewer would accept this type of review.

Hopefully you know or can find another editor with experience with these issues who can help you resolve these problems.

Best of luck,

Twofingered Typist (talk) 15:33, 28 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you @Twofingered Typist: for taking the time to copyedit my article and for providing feedback to help me improve it. Your comments are very valid, and in particular your note about the "seeming quest to add absolutely everything ever written about the subject" definitely speaks to me, as this is trap I often fall into. I suppose it's difficult to locate sources for topics such as this so I generally add everything I can find, and then trim off the fat at the end of the process. But I'll keep watch of it going into the future. In terms of the reliability of the sources, many of these non-English sources haven't yet been assessed, so if this article was to be reviewed for GAN, that would be a great opportunity to put these sources to the test. I think this article is a bit off a GAN for now, but I'm glad to see it's heading in the right direction. :)--Coin945 (talk) 22:10, 28 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No comments on the subject matter, really. It is certainly a completely different video game from any other whose article I have copy edited. Twofingered Typist (talk) 12:51, 1 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Adventure articles

Hey! Just wanted to thank you for all the hard work you've done expanding Wikipedia's adventure game coverage. It's really amazing just how many articles you've made in such a short time. You even created Secrets of the Luxor, which I've been thinking about starting for over a year! And an especially big thank-you for the help on Faust (video game)—some of those sources you dug up are things I never would have found on my own. I plan to take that article to GAN in the next month or two, after I finish expanding it. Anyway, here's a barnstar for your tireless contributions! Johnny Mnemonic

Hey Coin if you want to contribute with the Johnny Mnemonic draft you can also help add some things into the body. Especially if they are non-English sources. I can see this being created with the same intent as Phantasmagoria (video game) as well as possibly needing something special to be done to show the gameplay. RE:Gry Online

Great to hear that you got Gry accepted as a reliable source! I've used it a few times in the past, but maybe I should look into it more. I axed that particular Gry reference on Igor because it was part of the Gry encyclopedia, and I assumed that it was (like with Giant Bomb) a user-generated section of the site. It doesn't seem like Igor was ever released in Poland, so I wasn't sure what else it could've been but an unofficial thing created by fans. If it's actually editorial content, I'll be sure to re-add it. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 02:36, 10 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Bracken Tor moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Bracken Tor, does not have enough sources or confirmed information to remain published. Please attempt to at least begin the currently empty sections, and don't forget to use reliable sources.

I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (Talk|Contribs) 15:27, 15 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I feel honored — I just came across — that you put up a Berlin Connection (BC) Wikipedia page and already putting together such an amount of sources (some of them I never had seen before). I am Eku Wand author, designer, producer and publisher (via eku interactive) of the CD-ROM Adventure-Thriller Berlin Connection (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berlin_Connection).

How can I help you to improve the quality of your article? I can see some mistakes immediately starting from wrong spelling of my name: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eku_Wand and the wrong mentioning of my former multimedia company Pixelpark: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pixelpark (which now is: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digitas_Pixelpark).

I could help finding relevant links for you in German or English language (such as: https://books.ub.uni-heidelberg.de/arthistoricum/catalog/book/265 ; https://books.ub.uni-heidelberg.de/arthistoricum/reader/download/265/265-17-77884-1-10-20170523.pdf), other sources (such as registry of Berlin Connection in the German National Library) and upload proper high resolution cover shots etc. Another English weblink with wrong release date (proper release year is 1998): https://macintoshgarden.org/games/berlin-connection

I could also help finding another German Wikipedia editor to write the german Wikipedia page first and then go back and forth with you on syncing both sides? Let me know.

As I am not an advanced Wikipedia editor (and not good in proper formatting either) please advise on how I can help without violating Wikipedia netiquette but improving the article's quality and importance on scale!?

… you can also write to mailto:mail@ekuwand.com as I am unsure if this is the right way to get in contact with you in here. Sorry.

Regards Eku

ekuwand 13:16, 29 February 2020 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ekuwand (talkcontribs)

Hi @Ekuwand:, it's nice to meet you! While I am interested in creating articles on 90s/00s adventure games, I do not have the time to develop this article any further at the moment. Particularly as I do not speak German, it would be an additional challenge. I think your suggestion is a good one - to contcat a German editor to write an article, and for them to translate it to English.
Kind regards,
--Coin945 (talk) 23:52, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Alright — I will proceed as suggested. Thank you for your feedback.

I am about to write an article about the first one and I noticed this article of yours. I think it should be merged to Kayko and Kokosh, as there is no official 'series'. The games were made by at least two if not more different companies, and the grouping is unofficial. The content can be preserved in the article for the comics which are the main franchise, but I don't think the list makes sense as a stand alone article. If you reply here, please ping me. Cheers,--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 08:02, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Living books sources text

https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/multimedia-schools-are-encouraged-to-invest-in-flexibility-1421026.html :

   LYNNE CURRY
   Tuesday 7 June 1994 00:02

MICROSOFT, the worldwide leader in software for personal computers, says its education CD- ROMs will never replace books. Their aim is to make learning fun and accessible.

The prospect of interactive CD- ROMs (computer discs with read- only memories), responding to prompts from the user, would have sounded fantastic a few years ago. Now titles have been developed to fit the National Curriculum.

The 2,000 paintings in the permanent collection at the National Gallery in London have been captured on CD-ROM, along with information about the paintings and artists. Microsoft, the creators, also have a title on musical instruments, developed with Dorling Kindersley, a specialist publisher of reference books. A 28-volume encyclopaedia, Encarta, was released last year.

The growing list of educational titles joins the quasi-educational material, designed to inject fun into learning, or vice-versa. Distributors Softline are promoting Broderbund's Living Books, animated stories for children. Words or sentences can be played individually and the computer reads and spells word aloud as they are highlighted. Multilingual versions are included, and a click of the mouse will change the language.

The Government is encouraging schools to invest. 'When you think about what the employees of the future are going to have to do and the flexibility that will be required, multimedia is the way it's going,' said a spokeswoman for the government-funded National Council for Educational Technology. The NCET says there is an onus on schools to make sure they know how to use new technology and how to get the best for their money, and publishes information sheets to help head teachers. Schools can apply for help towards buying equipment through the Gest scheme (grants for education support and training).

Paul Tollet, consumer business manager for Microsoft, points out that many CDs are electronic books. 'They are done in way that's more fun and more interesting, and a lot of the information is more accessible.' Though a different experience altogether from sitting under a tree with a book, where the birdsong comes spontaneously rather than from the click of a mouse.

Audrey Geisel had one requirement for the multitude of multimedia firms vying to license her late husband’s work over the past year: “That cat had to be that cat. Down to the last whisker.”

Wednesday, the 72-year-old widow of Theodor Geisel--known to generations of children as Dr. Seuss--said she had granted the rights to create interactive versions of such classics as “The Cat in the Hat,” “Green Eggs and Ham” and “Horton Hatches the Egg” to Living Books, a joint venture between Geisel’s longtime publisher, Random House, and Broderbund, the leading publisher of children’s software.

In the scramble among multimedia developers to gobble up rights to intellectual property for translation to the new medium, the Dr. Seuss books were among the most hotly contested. The author’s 48 children’s books, which began in 1937 with “And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street,” are among the best-known literary properties ever licensed for multimedia and will probably help drive future deals.

“It was not an easy negotiation,” said Random House Chairman Alberto Vitale, who had long yearned to turn the Seuss books into CD-ROMs. Terms were not disclosed, but a source familiar with the deal said it was “well into the seven figures.”

Orchestrated by the ICM talent agency, a parade of software firms including Microsoft, Paramount Interactive and Activision trekked out to visit Geisel near her La Jolla home last year, armed with personal computers, CD-ROM drives and the best multimedia pitch they could muster.

They found no pushover. Since the author died in 1991, Audrey Geisel, who as chief executive of Dr. Seuss Enterprises owns all rights to his work, has been a fierce guardian of its artistic integrity.

“I worried that the quality would hold up . . . and that it be absolutely line-proof to the books,” she said. But Geisel said she was never uncertain about whether to enter the brave new world of CD-ROM with her husband’s much-beloved rhymes and illustrations. “This is a new form of communication that never existed before. And that was what Ted was all about.”

After producing a prototype, Living Books nearly lost out, despite Geisel’s desire to honor her husband’s 50-year association with Random House. “They had a bad hair day, a bad CD-ROM day, who knows,” Geisel said. But she gave them a second chance and, Geisel said, they came through.

Living Books come on CD-ROMs, which look like music compact discs except they hold text, video and animation in addition to sound. Played on a device hooked up to a computer, CD-ROMs hold 400 times the data of a typical computer floppy disk.

In the Living Book titles already on the market, such as “Just Grandma and Me,” each page of the book is displayed on the computer screen. Each character has a voice, and when children click on different objects, the objects respond. Living Books won’t say which Dr. Seuss book it will do first, but the first is scheduled to go on sale early next year. Will Dr. Seuss’ immortal rhymes be altered to suit the children of the Information Age?

“I think the children would say, ‘That’s not the way it goes,’ ” Geisel said. “ ‘I meant what I said and I said what I meant . . .’ ”

When she couldn’t remember the rest, a listener filled in: “An elephant’s faithful 100 percent.”

“See?” Geisel said. “You don’t mess around with that.”

COMPANY NEWS; Random House Children's Books Headed for PC's

Broderbund Software Inc. and Random House Inc. agreed yesterday to start a joint venture to produce electronic children's books to be read on personal computers.

The new venture, called Living Books, is one of the first alliances between dominant companies in their respective fields. It will permit Broderbund, a leading publisher of consumer software, to create electronic versions of the vast library of children's titles published by Random House, a New York-based publisher owned by the privately held Advance Publications. Broderbund and Random House declined to discuss financial details.

"We're at the beginning of a revolution," Alberto Vitale, Random House's chairman and chief executive, said in an interview. "It changes the way a new generation will learn, think and entertain themselves."

Electronic books played on computers offer animated illustrations with sound effects, and users can activate objects on their screens or alternate among English, Spanish and Japanese text and audio. More Deals Expected

Michael Wallace, a software analyst for UBS Securities, said the Living Books partnership "gives Broderbund access to a lot of content and makes it easier and quicker for them to come to market."

He predicted there would be more such marriages as computer makers, movie studios and publishers converge to create new electronics products. Still, CD-ROM disks made up just 10 percent of $750 million in consumer software expected to be sold this year, analysts said.

Electronic books are published on what are known as CD-ROM disks, for read-only memory compact disks, which are played on systems now being integrated into PC's. The market for CD-ROM disks has exploded in the last year from 22 titles in April 1992 to about 400 currently, said Ann Stephens, president of PC Data, a market research firm that compiles a monthly index of top-selling software titles.

Nearly 70 percent of the CD-ROM titles are either games or educational, she said. "It's growing all over, but educational software is the only area where it has more than a toehold," she added.

Two multimedia books published in the last year by Broderbund, "Just Grandma and Me" and "Arthur's Teacher Trouble," are among the top 10 best-selling CD-ROM's nationally. The company, based in Novato, Calif., has two more titles due out shortly. Other CD-ROM Publishers

Other CD-ROM publishers include Electronic Arts, Compton New Media, Microsoft, Knowledge Adventure and Virgin Games, whose "Seventh Guest" game is the third best-selling software program in the nation.

Broderbund's stock soared yesterday, gaining $3.75, to $41, in Nasdaq trading.

Mr. Vitale of Random House said he expected Living Books, which is to start operations in January, to publish up to 10 electronic titles next year. Each one costs "hundreds of thousands of dollars" to develop, he said.

Despite retail prices of up to $60 a title, Mr. Vitale expects a ready market. "A kid can play hours upon hours with one," he said.

One of the venture's obvious strengths is its ability to tap each company's existing distribution network. Although software is not stocked by most book sellers, Mr. Vitale predicts that will change. "Book stores will inexorably get into electronic product," he said.

Electronic book sales are expected to grow as more PC's are equipped with CD-ROM players.

A version of this article appears in print on Sept. 11, 1993, Section 1, Page 39 of the National edition with the headline: COMPANY NEWS; Random House Children's Books Headed for PC's.

Broderbund Casts Itself as a Studio

By Glenn Rifkin

   Sept. 11, 1995

Credit...The New York Times Archives See the article in its original context from September 11, 1995, Section D, Page 7

Nestled in the parched hills of Marin County, just north of San Francisco, Broderbund Software Inc. doesn't conjure up visions of a Hollywood studio. But Harry Wilker, the company's senior vice president and creative director, could easily pass for one of those high-powered studio moguls constantly on the prowl for that winning formula: a compelling idea and the talent to produce it.

Broderbund (pronounced BROOD-er-bund) -- a leader in the $1 billion consumer software market -- is competing with the likes of the Walt Disney Company and the Microsoft Corporation for animators, writers and producers to make electronic entertainment products.

For the last year or so, Broderbund has had an interactive CD-ROM blockbuster -- "Myst," an addictive, surrealistic game. But in an industry where change is constant and smaller competitors produce copycat programs at dizzying speed, Broderbund -- which is Danish for brotherhood -- is adapting. Fast. Its marketing strategy has gone from laid back to aggressive.

With the Internet and on-line services likely to deliver competitive programming soon, Broderbund is working to offer its trademark educational entertainment on line. It is also preparing its first television advertising campaign.

A 15-year-old company with just $160 million in revenue and $25 million in earnings, Broderbund has become such a favorite on Wall Street that its shares closed at $72.50 on Friday (its low over the last 12 months was $24.375), giving it a market capitalization of $1.86 billion.

Keith E. Benjamin, a technology stock analyst with Robertson, Stephens & Company, estimates a 30 percent growth rate for Broderbund for the next few quarters.

In July, Broderbund bought the Learning Company, a leading education software maker, for $440 million. Mr. Benjamin said the deal "puts Broderbund in one of the strongest competitive positions" in a growing industry.

"Myst" has dominated the software best-seller lists for 18 months and has sold 1.5 million copies. Mr. Wilker is betting that the company's next best seller will be "In the First Degree," an interactive courtroom drama scheduled for release Sept. 25. This CD-ROM, which includes four hours of original video shot in San Francisco with local actors, allows a player to be the prosecutor in a love-triangle murder.

Also later this month, Living Books, which is jointly owned by Broderbund and Random House, a unit of Advance Publications, will introduce a new interactive line of Dr. Seuss's children's books.

Before "Myst," Broderbund had an unprecedented string of hits, mostly in "edutainment" programs for children, like "Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?" "Kidpix" and "Printshop." The company derives a fair share of revenue from upgrades of its old, popular titles.

The phenomenal but unexpected success of "Myst," however, has forced Broderbund to take stock of its marketing strategy.

Under Jan Gullett, a former Pepsico marketing vice president, who joined the company in March as marketing director, Broderbund is repackaging its products to create greater brand identity. It now distributes its software in nearly 20,000 retail outlets, including Toys "R" Us and Wal-Mart Stores Inc.

Whether "In the First Degree" meets expectations or not, Mr. Wilker will not be slowing down.

"I don't spend a lot of time looking far into the future," he said. "To me, the operational definition of eternity is 18 months, which is the length of a product cycle." At any moment, Mr. Wilker's 200-member creative team has as many as 30 projects in the pipeline. He would not disclose his development budget.

Operating like a software maker and a book publisher, Broderbund creates its own products while soliciting programs from outside developers. The company draws such a flood of ideas that one full-time staff member does nothing but sift through unsolicited submissions.

More important for Broderbund, the company also attracts established software developers. Peter Adair and Haney Armstrong -- filmmakers-turned-software developers, based in San Francisco -- designed "In the First Degree." Before signing with Broderbund, which is providing programming, technical and marketing expertise, they had turned down 10 offers, including one for more than $1 million from a movie studio Mr. Adair would not identify. "We prized our independence, and they were able to give us that," he said of Broderbund.

"Myst" was created by Robyn and Rand Miller, brothers working for Cyan Inc., a small software company in Spokane, Wash. (Broderbund has been Cyan's exclusive distributor since 1991.) Broderbund acts as the Millers' publisher and pays them a monthly royalty. The two brothers brought "Myst" to Broderbund, they said, because they respected Douglas G. Carlston, the company's founder and chief executive.

"The main constraint to creative growth in this industry is finding people who can do it well," Mr. Wilker said. "I can't replace people just by getting a bigger budget. We could be doing twice the number of titles if we could find the good ideas and the people to execute them.

"We give people room to roam," Mr. Wilker added. Almost anybody on his staff can get two months and a budget of up to $25,000 to pursue an interesting idea. Failure is acceptable and risk-taking encouraged.

Laurie K. Strand, a former journalist, heads one of three internal studios dedicated to product development. She oversees teams of art directors, animators, writers, computer graphics specialists, programmers and sound designers.

"It's a very collaborative process," Ms. Strand explained. "It's different from making a film, where you have one director who is the keeper of the vision. Interactive software is not linear. It requires an understanding by several key groups. You have to predict how a user will make decisions, navigate through the layers and levels of interactivity. So the programmers and software engineers are as important as the writers and designers."

For Broderbund, the scheduled release next year of Myst II could mean another milestone.

"Myst II could become one of the best-selling CD-ROM titles of all time," said Mr. Benjamin, the Robertson, Stephens analyst. "I wouldn't be surprised if they sold two million copies, which at $40 each is equal to a hit movie."

A version of this article appears in print on Sept. 11, 1995, Section D, Page 7 of the National edition with the headline: Broderbund Casts Itself as a Studio.

Hey! Yeah, I can't deny that the history of The Learning Company is fascinating, especially with how its downfall essentially marked the end of the booming educational game market. I've had to cover Mattel's game-industry antics in a few articles I've worked on in the past, simply because the fallout was so large and impacted so many other games and companies. It's a big subject. Personally, I just don't feel qualified to tackle something of that scale and scope. I favor more niche subjects that I can cover exhaustively (Runaway: A Road Adventure is a recent example of this) rather than vast, sweeping topics like you'd get with a page about a game genre, a console or a huge corporation. Parsing that much information is just overwhelming to me. Plus, I've mainly been editing Wikipedia lately to blow off steam and pass the time, so I've stuck to low-effort side projects (like filling out Template:Gary Grigsby) when I edit at all. That said, I do wish you luck with this huge project—hopefully there are others on WPVG who'd be more willing than I am to take something like this on! JimmyBlackwing (talk) 00:30, 3 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @JimmyBlackwing:, thank you for your reply. I can appreciate what you're saying. The good news is that I've done all the hard research and structuring of the article's scope. I've bashed out a very rough draft by placing the content and sources into an outline of the article. All if needs now is a copyedit and once over to finesse the article into cohesive sentences. I wonder if you'd be keen to give it a crack? I'm mentally exhausted after all that and would love your expertise.

An article you recently created, Orbits: Voyage Through the Solar System, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). DYK for Living Books

On 10 December 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Living Books, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Los Angeles Times criticized Disney for contracting their interactive storybooks to independent studios, deeming their series "a mere imitation" of Broderbund's Living Books format? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Living Books. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Living Books), and it may be added to the statistics page if it received over 400 views per hour. Hi there. While working on The Learning Company (formerly SoftKey), I noticed that much of the content you added in November is in violation of Wikipedia's copyright policy. Specifically, much of the article text was copied and pasted directly from sources. I had to remove the copyrighted text, but I paraphrased and kept as much as I could. I would advise you to be very careful not to add copyrighted content to Wikipedia going forward, lest this become a recurring issue. — The Only Zac (talk) 03:22, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • @The Only Zac: You're a legend! Thank you for smoothing out the edges of this article. It took a huge amount of work to research and rough out the article structure, so I'm really glad you came along and finessed it. Copyvio issues noted for the future. :)--Coin945 (talk) 03:36, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ah thanks, I'm happy to help! I can tell you put a lot of time and effort into the initial research, which has not gone unappreciated. Just gotta be careful not to publish anything that's copied from other websites. — The Only Zac (talk) 03:54, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! My name is Alyssa and I work for MasterClass. I've disclosed this on my profile and at Talk:MasterClass, where I've proposed some changes to correct and bring the article up to date. More specifically, I've asked to fix language about the company's founding and remove a sentence which is not specifically confirmed by sourcing. I saw you've edited the article before, from the beginning! Thanks for this. Do you have a moment to review my requests on the article's talk page? Mass Nomination of Articles for AfD

Hi @Coin945, before nominating more old unsourced articles please, please have a look at Wikipedia:BEFORE - you are urged to look for sources for each and every of your articles you want to nominate for deletion.

CommanderWaterford (talk) 10:07, 13 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'd just come here to urge him to withdraw them. This is a huge misunderstanding of the purpose of AfD on many levels. 72 nominations is three-quarters of the total AfD gets on an average day, and over the course of three hours with absolutely no indication of the most basic research. It's essentially a WP:TRAINWRECK that happens to be unbundled. Vaticidalprophet 10:10, 13 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • There are an additional five articles where the nomination was malformed, with no discussion page created. I for one have no objection to well-researched nominations. I want well-researched nominations, and subsequent discussion contributions, as they ensure that we get the right result. But it is evident from these that zero research has been done. Ironically, this means that there's going to be massive resistance by other people to this make-work, and a push to speedy keep everything. This is very definitely not the way to be using AFD, nor to find and fix a stub. Come on! You clearly know how to research subjects, from all of that DYK/GA stuff. Uncle G (talk) 10:33, 13 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'd also kindly ask that you please withdraw them. You do appear to have identified a couple that need to be deleted, but the bulk nominations without any clear evidence of WP:BEFORE makes it difficult to support your position. SportingFlyer T·C 12:00, 13 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Supporting a call for you to please withdraw them all. It takes work to prepare an AfD nomination and I’m afraid it’s clear you just haven’t done it. Mccapra (talk) 12:23, 13 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yes, please withdraw them, and then go through them one by one at a slower pace. Some of your nominations are valid, but there are other options to flooding AfD – for example, I agree that Hopestrumentals probably doesn't pass WP:NALBUM and shouldn't have its own article. But you could have tried a proposed deletion first, or considered whether just to boldly redirect it to Hope (Non-Prophets album) as it's just an instrumental version of the same record... maybe this wouldn't have been the best solution as Hope doesn't mention Hopestrumentals anywhere, but I'm just saying that it was an option worth considering. Richard3120 (talk) 14:21, 13 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • I don't mean to pile on, but it really is excessive to see one editor's name on AfD nom after nom. Worse, each nomination is just boilerplate about being unsourced and not notable, but no explanation is given. Being unsourced is actually not sufficient for AfD (the standard is that no sources are expected to exist, or that a thorough search fails to find them), and lack of notability is a minimum and you must explain why you believe the subject is not notable Hyperion35 (talk) 17:38, 13 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Browsing through the noms, oh so many noms, and I see City Attorney and Anal Sphincterotomy? I think this goes beyond just inappropriate lack of WP:BEFORE. I believe that there is a serious CIR issue here. I am trying to be polite and civil, I do not intend insult, but nominating articles like these for deletion is in some ways more disturbing than the rapid-pace mass deletion effort. Beyond slowing down and doing basic research, I have to question whether you should be nominating articles for deletion at all. Hyperion35 (talk) 18:09, 13 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • You did the right thing. Those fighting to keep this rubbish of dictionary definitions and total drek are the ones who are showing utter contempt for Wikipedia and what it is meant to be. Keep up the good work.John Pack Lambert (talk) 19:35, 13 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi all, nice to meet you! Thank you taking the time to visit me and help me better understand the AFD process; I genuinely appreciate it. I didn't mean to cause any undue effort by yourself and others. I suppose my horror when trawling through our oldest unsourced articles from 2006/7, coupled with the thrill of seeing the new ability to AFD nom with only a few clicks, led to me going a bit overboard. I didn't feel right Prodding or redirecting without community involvement so chose to AFD the ones that I thought deserved further critique. I didn't do as much WP:Before as I should have, but my intentions were pure. I'm hesistant to withdraw my noms... It seems that many (most?) of these discussions are heading towards deletion/redirect/merge; though indeed a few of them have been rightly rescued by meticulous source sleuths. At the end of the day, I'm grateful that some of these abandoned articles are being addressed after 15 years and I look forward to us working together to make Wikipedia a better project tomorrow than it was today.--Coin945 (talk) 06:54, 14 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • I very much am glad you are here, and understand your process. I want to express apologiy for having engaged in rhetoric that I should not have in this discussion. I has caused me a whole lot of headache. I wish I could just turn back the clock. I would encourage you to in the future try to articlulate more clearly that the articles do not meet a specific policy. I need to do better at this too. The policy in question is Wikipedia:Verifiability. This is the most ignored policy in place. There is another policy that in some ways contradicts this one, but this one is the one that is the most imperative.John Pack Lambert (talk) 17:55, 15 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
