Wikipedia:Requests for history merge
This page is used for listing requests for history merges or history splitting of pages. For relatively simple cases where history merge is required, the destination page should be tagged with the {{histmerge}} template. This page should be used for requesting very complex merges, merges involving more than two pages, history merges of deleted pages, or when the use of the template is otherwise inadequate or where its usage would cause problems.
This page was originally for listing cut-and-paste moves which could not be repaired due to a then-extant technical limitation. The limitation has since been removed, but this page is still available if you find a cut-and-paste move, and are not able to repair it yourself (there is a procedure for doing it, but only administrators can do it, and it is a bit tricky!).
Administrators need to read Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Fixing cut-and-paste moves and Wikipedia:Requested moves/Closing instructions.
The procedure
- If the issue is clear-cut (straight-forward cut-and-paste move(s) to a different title), place a
{{histmerge|NAME OF PAGE THE ARTICLE WAS CUT FROM}}
template at the new location of the article which has been moved through cut and pasting, i.e. on the article where the pasting was done. - In more complex cases (explained at Wikipedia:How to fix cut-and-paste moves), please leave a description of the problem under the "Repair requests" section. An administrator will look over the pages and perform whatever tasks are necessary and update the request.
- Tasks that have been completed or do not need further discussion will be removed.

- Talk:Mafia/Archive 2 split into 2 editions and 2 editions for ordering of User:ClueBot III/Master Detailed Indices/Talk:Mafia and User:ClueBot III/Indices/Talk:Mafia. 2 older editions would be deleted due to redirect. Sawol (talk) 07:37, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Sawol: Sorry, but please what needs to be done with what? I can see that User:ClueBot III/Master Detailed Indices/Talk:Mafia is a detailed examination by ClueBot III of all the current and archived discussions in page Talk:Mafia. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 08:49, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
- The first edition of Talk:Mafia/Archive 2 is at 17:04, 29 May 2010 and Talk:Mafia/Archive 1 17:41, 4 June 2019. So, ordering at User:ClueBot III/Master Detailed Indices/Talk:Mafia and User:ClueBot III/Indices/Talk:Mafia is Archive 2 and 1 per their edition histories. I reqeust that 2 older editions of Talk:Mafia/Archive 2 be deleted. The first edition of Talk:Mafia/Archive 2 should be at 21:02, 28 July 2019 by ClueBot III. - Is it possible to split an article and its history instead of merging? I would like to split Ocean world into two different articles, Ocean world with the current content (any planet with any type of ocean, not even necessarily consisting of water, also treating natural satellites, hence the more general title) and Ocean planet with the former content, a considerably more specialised topic (a hypothetical type of planet whose surface is all – or almost all – water, and whose oceans are far deeper than on Earth) that is not mentioned in the current article anymore at all. Specifically, Gliese 1214 b links to ocean planet and evidently means the topic that was formerly treated in the article, as it has been suggested that this planet could be a real-world example of this so far only hypothetical type of planet. --Florian Blaschke (talk) 06:12, 6 September 2021 (UTC)

- @Anthony Appleyard and Bovineboy2008: - I didn't request the history merge. I requested a merge, but I then nominated the article for deletion. Bovineboy2008 requested the history merge. Robert McClenon (talk) 23:13, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
