This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 70.51.201.106 (talk) at 16:57, 12 April 2019 (Taiwan district move requests). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."

  • To list a technical request: edit the Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
    {{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}

    This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.
  • If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
  • If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.

Taiwan district move requests
Contesting these simultaneously, as they were nominated simultaneously. I'll note that the character "區" means "district" and is a part of each Chinese name. Category:Districts of New Taipei, Category:Districts of Taipei, and Category:Districts of Keelung, lend support to including "district" as part of WP:COMMONNAME. WP:WIAN advises the use of widely accepted names, including government standards. A list of districts provided by Tainan City Government all include the "區" character. @Ganbaruby: I think what Vycl1994 is saying here is nicely reflected in our naming convention at WP:NC-ZH. Sam Sailor 16:53, 11 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Vycl1994 and Sam Sailor: I am aware that the official names in Chinese of these places include "district" in the name. However, both WP:COMMONNAME and WP:OFFICIAL state that official names are not necessarily the common name. WP:COMMONNAME also states that only English sources should be considered for the article title. We don't add the disambiguator in Taipei or Kaohsiung, so why should we do it here? Additionally, if you look at Category:Townships in Changhua County, Category:Townships in Yilan County, Taiwan, or any other Taiwanese county-level category, none of the articles have "district" or "township" at the end except when disambiguation is needed. Regarding WP:NC-ZH, I cannot find the place that says the word "district" has to be added, but rather should be only as a disambiguator, which these articles definitely do not need. I feel like the word "district" is extra and should be removed for for the reasons above and for conciseness in WP:PRECISE. Ganbaruby! 17:48, 11 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@In ictu oculi: Sorry, but I don’t know what you mean by that. Could you please explain why keeping “district” would help for stability? It certainly isn’t more constant, judging by how other township-level articles don’t have the word “township” or “district” in the title (eg. Category:Townships in Miaoli County).Ganbaruby! 12:10, 12 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
