Wikipedia:Requests for page protection
This page has an administrative backlog that requires the attention of willing administrators. Please replace this notice with {{no admin backlog}} when the backlog is cleared. |
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | ||
---|---|---|
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.
Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level
Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level
Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here |

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Some IP has been repeatedly adding a wikilink around a voice actor, Elsie Lovelock, which links to an unrelated page (Meta Runner), and has been persistent over the past couple of months. SWinxy (talk) 23:06, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Resubmitted by an IP after rejection. Semi-protection seems less drastic than deleting the draft. Request long-term semi-protection to prevent further disruptive resubmission. Robert McClenon (talk) 01:07, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing especially from new users on using copyrighted photo. Also the addition of unsourced info. — Emperork 🐋🐰 01:08, 5 December 2020 (UTC)

- Note: Note well. It was cross-wiki spam direct to you from Indonesia. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 13:41, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
Indefinite pending changes: BLP policy violations – IP vandalism has returned since semi-protection expired. This is a low-watchers page of an active activist, but the vandalism isn't so high frequency that PCR wouldn't work for it. (t · c) buidhe 11:48, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
- Pending-changes protected for a period of 1 year, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 13:21, 5 December 2020 (UTC)

Protection: High level of IP vandal. NeoBatfreak (talk) 16:23, 5 December 2020 (UTC)

- Note: Someone removes a section and you add it back. This is an edit war. Y'all need to consensus seek n the talk page. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 20:01, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
Temporary Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – An IP range is using multiple IPs and edit warring and POV pushing with WP:OR, unreliable sources and misrepresenting sources. Doesn't use the talk page even though I had started a discussion. A protection will stop the edit warring. SUN EYE 1 17:55, 5 December 2020 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. Darkknight2149 19:07, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing, by a likely sock-evader (numerous new accounts and IP addresses) who is obsessed with this person's caste and yet can't find a source to support it. These edits have been occurring since January. The page was briefly under semi-protection through the month of September but the disruption continued two days after it was lifted and has been going on since. -Indy beetle (talk) 19:52, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
Indefinite semi-protection: I think this page should be protected - This page is a rule, so no IP users should edit it. Larryzhao|Talk|Contribs 19:56, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – Policina. 4thfile4thrank (talk) 20:08, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Months of disruptive edits by multiple IPs changing the death toll (which is well-sourced) despite over a dozen requests by myself and other editors to refrain from such behaviour. Amanuensis Balkanicus (talk) 20:23, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for a period of 3 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. as arbitration enforcement--Ymblanter (talk) 21:04, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Every single IP edit throughout the last 2 weeks or so has been disruptive (literally not a single exception) and had to be reverted. Binho24 (talk) 20:38, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
- Non-admin comment Binho24, the article is already protected. I also suggests that (pp-pc1) needs to remove because it is redudant if the article is semi-protected. 36.68.232.33 (talk) 20:44, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
- Not done --Deepfriedokra (talk) 20:50, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
- Note: I protected and then reversed myself. There is a lot happening on that page. Not all of the IP edits were unconstructive. Reinstated pending changes, but that might need to be removed due to the shear volume of edits. If anyone has nay particular problem with content, they should discuss on the talk page. Two or more content disputes going on, and it is unfair to prevent non autoconfirmed edits. May need to go full protection instead. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 20:50, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
@Ymblanter: What do you think? --Deepfriedokra (talk) 21:05, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Deepfriedokra: We are still clearly on the tail of activity after Maradona's death, which even spills into other articles. I would may be add a short semi (like 3 days) and hope that the disruptive activity would almost disappear by the time the block expires, and would also keep pending changes in place, again hoping that after three days the volume of edits would be not so high. This is a difficult case, needs to be monitored.--Ymblanter (talk) 21:09, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
Current requests for reduction in protection level
Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page
Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
