Death figures

[edit]

Were 'dozens' killed, or hundreds? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 49.205.219.116 (talk) 18:27, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The official figures given were 15 and figures given by Khudai Khidmatgars were 150. Dunno from where this 700 to 900 figures came in. It's a propaganda to play ethnic card and spread hatred among Pashtuns against Pakistan. USaamo (t@lk) 07:03, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

On August 12, 1948, the provincial police opened fire on the Khudai Khidmatgar (KK) workers protesting against the arrest of the KK leadership in Babara, Charsada district of the present-day Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Pashtun nationalists claim that more than 600 peaceful protesters lost their lives in the incident. Moreover, the subsequent provincial government of Abdul Qayyum Khan (1947-1953) ordered the victim’s families to pay for the bullets fired on the protestors.249

249: This information is based on my personal interactions with the ANP workers. However, the exact number of casualties and other details pertaining to the incident could not be ascertained through independent sources. Roghani says official reports he has sifted document that 56000 bullets were fired on protestors that day. Adding insult to injury, the authorities announced afterwards that no body would be allowed to claim the body without paying for the bullets shot at the deceased. His research suggests that a sum of Rs 11,390 was recovered by the authorities, at the rate of Rs 50 per family, from relatives who claimed bodies from the massacre site.

This gives a death toll exceeding 225. I was looking at some prim. sources (intel notes in the aftermath, in English) and 600 is not an implausible number. TrangaBellam (talk) 19:00, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

According to every local news of the area reported the killing of over 300 to 400 pashtuns however more were also killed in this by throwing the injured in the river. 2400:ADCC:10B:BB00:A104:E170:5485:99F1 (talk) 16:15, 12 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
