notability
[edit]M0n0wall has been around for a long time, has a long, mature development cycle and very active community, but trying to make it notability seems like a chicken and the egg problem. Sure, there are products based on this and countless servers around the world running it, but how to do compress that into a form that feeds wikipedia? Is a link to system manufactures selling servers pre-loaded with the software considered a reliable source? Is a link to active services that companies sell specifically for m0n0wall considered a reliable source? Does another news article about m0n0wall need to be produced? The old ones don't seem to exist anymore due the publisher deleting/moving them. Knightmb (talk) 22:03, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
Missing reference to OPNsense
[edit]FULL DISCLOSURE: I'm a contributor of the OPNsense project. Why was the reference to OPNsense removed multiple times? There's no doubt that it's a derivative of m0n0wall. And OPNsense is apparently a maturing open-source project with a 18+ month history and increasing popularity as can be seen on GitHub. In my opinion it's of public interest to mention this derivative of m0n0wall, especially if you consider that the author of m0n0wall, Manuel Kasper, recommended OPNsense when announcing the end of the m0n0wall project. Fraenki2 (talk) 14:48, 14 June 2016 (CET)
- There is absolutely no reason to include OPNsense reference into M0n0wall page. You and user Joswp (owner of OPNsense) are actively trying to self-promote by inserting OPNsense references all around Wikipedia. OPNsense page has been already deleted THREE times because of this https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Special%3ALog&type=delete&user=&page=OPNsense&year=&month=-1&tagfilter=
- Company behind OPNsense, Deciso has PURCHASED domains from Manuel Kasper in order to promote their product. If you check whois of m0n0wall website you will see that Deciso is owner of the domain. There is no link between OPNsense and m0n0wall. OPNsense is a pfSense fork, not a M0n0wall fork. You and your colleague Joswp are intentionally and maliciously trying to trick people here. Mr.hmm (talk) 21:10, 15 June 2016 (UTC)
- 1) You don't seem to understand what a "derivative" is. OPNsense was added to the list of derivatives, which it clearly is. If your lack of knowledge is the reason for your vandalism, you should stop editing immediately. 2) Jos is apparently not my colleague. You're again making false assumptions. 3) Manual Kasper's statement is still valid. Fraenki2 (talk) 22:53, 15 June 2016 (UTC)
- I think it's you who doesn't understand what derivative is http://www.dictionary.com/browse/derived and no, OPNsense is *not* a m0n0wall derivative. In fact, OPNsense existed only after m0n0wall project. Nobody questioned Manuel Kaspers statement, he has right to state whatever he wants, but what I'm questioning is OPNsense relation with M0n0wall, which is non-existant. OPNsense was forked from pfSense, not from m0n0wall.
- You, yourself said that you are OPNsense contributor, which makes you his colleague since you work together on OPNsense project. Also, please refrain from claiming I'm doing vandalism here, since you, Joswp and numerous other Netherlands IP's (where OPNsense company is) got m0n0wall page locked from editing. Also, personal attacks like "your lack of knowledge" are childish. Mr.hmm (talk) 00:23, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
- The point is that you're removing ALL mentions of OPNsense on Wikipedia, not just on this page. And you refuse to provide a good explanation for this unacceptable behaviour. So there's no point to discuss this further with you. Goodbye. Fraenki2 (talk) 08:45, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
- I have provided explanation, multiple times and it's obvious to anyone who reads this page. OPNsense has no business on M0n0wall page. OPNsense is not a m0n0wall derivative. I am not removing "all mentions of OPNsense on Wikipedia", whoever looks at my edit history will see that I am removing OPNsense self-promotion by you, Joswp and his other employees. And it's nothing new, OPNsense page has been deleted three times so far, for self-promotion. Please stop trying to manipulate others, it won't work. OPNsense has been abusing Wikipedia since day 1 of it's inception. Mr.hmm (talk) 09:50, 16 June 2016 (UTC)

- Kindergarten. OPNsense is listed as derivative and that's fine I think. This stuff is expert level, and expert will understand that m0n0wall retired and OPNsense is the new king.LS (talk) 20:38, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
