If you're going to say...

[edit]

I think the article fully supports that in general these goats are easy to handle. To stick a small thing in that says "they can be very friendly (but also very mean)" is dumbing down the article. I think it's safe to say that anyone who has ever handled an animal in their lives knows that there are bad apples out there, just like humans. Don't dumb it down and allow the reader some intelligence. Thank you. For this reason and because there was absolutely no citation of meanness, I'm deleting that part. Global, especially in Africa, not just US

[edit]

I noticed the article words and refers to mostly USA based information for the breed. In most of Africa, including here in South Africa, we keep and breed them quite passionately. I have added a minute bit of detail referring to at least SA, Aus and the UK, to help the countless non-US people who use Wikipedia in a direction without immediately thinking that this is a US-only thing, which it isn't. It would behoove the entire community and breed, to globalise its information. Thank you, kindly. MarlonZA (talk) 06:53, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

PS: Also, the article starts with "an american breed", which I am trying to establish for factual purposes. Many articles on the internet seems to refer to "brought from" or "originating in" West Africa. Does anyone have information regarding this? MarlonZA (talk) 06:49, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

MarlonZA, the article describes this as an American breed because that's what it is – please see the History section. I'm all for globalisation but this breed – though derived from African stock – is not African. I don't know if the goats you refer to in South Africa are of this American breed or are African goats of West African Dwarf type? A good step towards globalisation might be to create pages for the other goat breeds of Nigeria, the Bornu White, the Damagaran Dapple-Grey, the Kano Brown, the Katsina Light-Brown, the Mambilla, the Maure, the Nigerian and the Red Sokoto. I'd be happy to help with that if you're interested. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 10:37, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

First NDG born in the UK via IVF

[edit]

Adding this fact, again, as it was previously reverted by an editor claiming that (paraphrased)= "one is not a significant number". This logic does not reduce the fact that it occurred, IS related to this breed, and IS verifiable, not to mention informational to anyone who actually cares and works with these breeds out in the tangible field. MarlonZA (talk) 07:05, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

MarlonZA, the crucial thing here is the matter of WP:WEIGHT – not everything that is written about a topic is necessarily important enough to be included in our page on it. Let's say an Audi and a BMW are involved in a bad accident near Düsseldorf; it happened and is widely reported in the news, but we don't include it in our pages on those cars or on the city unless it has some much wider significance. In this case: did it happen?: yes; did the BBC and other sources publish a press-release about it?: yes; does it have any significance for this North American breed as a whole?: little or none. Would you kindly remove it from the page – I've already done so once, and once is enough. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 10:07, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
